Only one guy was over 300 pounds and the announcers mentioned that four are seniors who will be playing on Sunday's. Not every O-line has to look like Wisconsin's to be successful. It's about recruiting smart and athletic guys who are big enough not to get pushed around, and then most importantly coaching them up. Hopefully Blazek has what it takes.

The bigger takeaway is that they have 4 seniors going to the NFL and they still couldn't make the playoffs.
#prostyledoesn'twork It's simply impossible to recruit at the necessary level. You are talking about a top up university, perfect, weather, and national reach and still their best OL ever couldn't get it done.

Stanford is one of the hardest universities in the nation to get into -- maybe the hardest. Does anybody know what they do with regard to admitting football players?

It's still difficult, much above NCAA standards, but not as difficult as the regular student population. That being said, the best of the best who actually value education are usually Stanford or ND bound. Eliminate Catholics and history and Stanford wins every time.

I'm happy we'll be moving to more of a spread offense, but I don't think I'd use Stanford as an example of pro-style not working. They didn't make the playoff this year but looking in the Pac 12, UCLA and Oregon both recruit as well as Stanford (if not better). Yet Stanford has won the league I believe 3 out of the last 4 years? With the college football playoff, the Pac 12 winner should get a spot most years. If I were them I wouldn't change anything.

Stanford by a mile for good sports and great academics. There are probably a few schools in between the Cardinal and the Irish in terms of academic quality who play good football, but the Irish have an excellent combination of tradition, history, alumni loyalty, etc.

I just wonder what you really have to have to get in if you are a great football player. Because if you're not, you'd better be a rocket surgeon or it will be "Thanks, but...."

Schiano and Butler did that here as well; Very smart.

I was about to say the same thing. Schiano's best year was when he had an unbelievable Offensive Line and they were not all overgrown behemoths but superior athletes. Had Leonard and Rice in the backfield and it is no wonder why our running game was so good and made our mediocre passing game all the better.

Not sure I would make that argument. If the playoff system had been in place in 2010 and later, would they have made it with Andrew Luck at the helm? Debatable.

Stanford definitely got better as this year went on, but they lose a lot next year. We'll see how they reload with a new QB and a new OL.

Yea they probably wouldn't e made it with a once in a generation QB. Not exactly an argument winner in my opinion.

I read a quote from Harbaugh stating that each year there are roughly 150 players who can get into Stanford and have the chops to cut it in the field. For that reason, he found it easier to recruit there. There wasn't much mystery about who to go after.

Talk about trying to jam a round peg into a square hole. LOL. Stanford will finish #3 or #4 and you try to take the opportunity to put down their Pro Offense? That really is laughable.

At this point I look forward to trying the spread but don't just think that will be all we need to do. Our Offense was good when we had Carroo healthy and played teams with similar or lesser talent to ours. In fact, they played well against MSU when Carroo was healthy so our fans can point fingers all they want but Offense was not our biggest problem. I'm more excited over the Defensive acumen that Ash brings to the table.

Way too many things at play to make that blanket statement. Unless OL catches passes, plays defense, coaches players, etc etc
