Do you guys/gals like the Big 10?

Of the Midwest schools, only Iowa has been remotely “welcoming”. Indiana, Purdue, NW and Nebraska resent having us in the conference the most. We’re a gem addition for the football blue bloods though. Adds recruiting appeal to have that visit to NJ a couple times in a career and the television deals we helped secure benefit them the most from a visibility perspective. Penn State also likes not being an island anymore.
Most of us Illini fans like Rutgers, so sorry you feel that way. :)

You guys and Wisconsin fans have been okay for the most part. Iowa fans the most friendly of the fan bases in the Midwest.

The Indiana schools and Nebraska seem to resent having us the most. We know NW didn’t want us from the start though their fan base is smaller and generally the least vocal.

Yeah. Who would've thought that the college we resemble the most was UConn after all this time? We have UConn beat academically though due to a certain 3 letter acronym that we belong to and they don't.
I wish people would stop with the BIG academic stuff . It’s a sports league

Let me state this, the B1G is the best conference for a lot of reasons not mentioned enough. Let me remind some RU fans about one thing, for those who liked/love the Big East.

RU never was treated well in the Big East and it was a basketball-first conference. And had no consistent respect in football.

So in terms of being "part of the Big East", it was mixed with horrible officials, some great upsets at the RAC and rarely of ever, did RU win any relevant road Big East games, because RU was bad AND because the officiating was so lopsided against RU. It was disgusting.

There were many games at Notre Dame, at Georgetown, vs St John's in the Big East tournament which were downright horrible, to help keep the top of the Big East at the top of CBB.

Why would I miss propping up Villanova, Georgetown, St John's, and other original Big East members AND not getting paid for it??

If RU is going to continue to get hosed by horrific referee calls, you might as well get paid for it!!!

At least since entering the B1G, yes the refs have been horrible, but with Pike, we are turning that around with overcoming some outrageous moments on the road in recent years and igniting a home court advantage, that the RAC always was about.

Schools like Villanova, Georgetown, St John's, Seton Hall and Providence etc, now don't get to showcase their programs at our expense and benefit from it by getting most of the calls.....NOW we are in a league that still favors their favorites (Michigan, Indiana, in basketball etc), but now getting financially cleaned up, is what allows RU to compete down the road.

I will be at the RAC and since RU (to me) was never an original member of either Big East or B1G, give me the money and exposure of the B1G as the only relevant program in both sports in our state. I don't think people realize how destructive it was to have our backyard as the centerpiece for so many schools success. Since we have left the Big East, and joined the B1G, RU has gone up in relevancy, stature and image, even with football flailing away.

Are Syracuse, West Virginia, St John's, Seton Hall, Providence, Villanova, Georgetown, Connecticut etc, talked about MORE or LESS, since they don't play at RU.....and vice versa, we don't get to prop up smaller schools, who also don't have the resources.

I am hyped up to play Ohio State today at the RAC and get to play Michigan State twice in the next 3 weeks, instead of local schools who say "let's go watch our team play at RU".

I think if you asked Maryland fans, they're probably the most disconnected from the B1G....they had an original legacy and footprint in the ACC and I think, they're probably the ones missing the chance to play Duke, Carolina, UVA etc. And Clemson, NC State in football etc.

RU is right where we belong (finally). If Schiano EVER were to somehow fix our offense and QB play in the next year or two, mixed with what Pike and the basketball program is building, RU would finally feel like a full participant in the B1G.

Personally I’d rather see conferences be geographic. I realize everything is about money.

No reason college kids at Rutgers ever need to be on a plane for a regular season conference game. I can’t blame the players asking for a piece of the pie.
Or play a Spring sport in February.👎

I have to disagree there. With the last remnants of Greg Schiano’s recruits we came into the BIG as a middle of the pack football program. Lack of funds for coaching staffs and the complete incompetence of Flood and Ash as first time head coaches (at any level) were a disaster that sent us spiraling downward.
We were a middle of the pack mid major level program. Despite going 8-5 in 2014 we did not have B1G-level depth throughout the roster.

Much like our 2006 run we stayed miraculously healthy which lead to the 7-5 record which will probably be our ceiling in football in the B1G. Maybe 8-4 if “the stars align.”

The difference now…7-5 can get you NYE and 8-4 can get you NYD.

So now we prop up OSU in basketball instead lol. Twice we have been fvcked big time by the officials in Columbus which cost us conference road wins, the latest of which the conference even apologized for.

It's not a basketball first league like the Big East and RU is earning the respect of the B1G. It's not to the point where we are getting almost every call like Michigan or Indiana do (I don't want that), but the game at Ohio State was bad 2 year ago and even worse last month.

OR we can never be on National TV like the game upcoming vs Michigan State at MSG

If the B1G is ever willing/able to land Kansas, UNC and Virginia it WILL be a basketball league. That line up of teams would best even the old Big East and the ACC in its glory days.

North Carolina, Kansas, UCLA, Michigan/MSU, Indiana/Purdue all in the same conference would be incomparable.

True but 7-5 only got us the Quick Lane in 2014 and that was as B1G members.

I think being in the B1G for everything except football is awesome.
I could be wrong but that might have been under the old lineup.

From a basketball standpoint, I enjoyed the "old Big East" - but defectors to the ACC ruined that conference (and largely torpedoed themselves, too). We weren't very good, and got the crap end of the stick a lot of times, but the old Big East tourneys in MSG were fantastic and there were some big heavyweights in that conference during that time.

Still, I've really enjoyed B1G basketball, too - I'd probably say more than the old Big East, but that's largely due to Pikiell building us up to competitiveness during the last several years.

On the football side, the Big East always crapped all over football, and we always struggled with their focus on the parochial basketball schools. The B1G cares DEEPLY about football, which has been great - and I'd much rather be getting smashed by Michigan and Ohio State than by Miami and VTech. The B1G East has been a bear, though, and has made it very difficult to build back to bowl eligibility after the disaster of the Chris Ash years.

Financially, too, I know we were over a barrel when we joined, but we really got screwed there. We brought in immediate revenue and were essentially a partial conference member for years from a paycheck angle. Granted, it was WAY more than we were seeing in the Big East/AAC, but it was so far behind our peers that we were handicapped heavily. We started in a deep hole from the years of B1G/AAC payouts, and then were hamstrung in climbing out of it with much less money than the rest of the conference.... which forced us to borrow against the future, which pushed out full payouts even farther.

Still, though, I wouldn't trade it for the alternative.

I love it because it’s the best conference in the country and makes us the most money. Aside from academics and money, it’s done nothing for us regarding football. It’s almost 10 years and we were bad when we joined and are still bad…arguably the worst in the league. We’ve had much better fortunes in basketball though I’d attribute that more to Pike than the league.
This.
Numerous Head Coaching and Staff changes and pitiful recruiting have all contributed to this.
Once we stabilize and demonstrate we have the right HC and Staff this will change.

We love the B1G but they don’t love us back.

All the money we’ve made for the B1G, even more than the B1G imagined, does the B1G waive the loans, no of course not but Delaney chastises RU fans for not donating enough. Are you kidding me? Tone deaf much?

The officiating against RU in the B1G might possibly be the worst officiating in the history of organized athletics. It’s been that way since our admission.

Nobody believes the Yankee Stadium Bowl is a good idea. Thank God we didn’t have to give up a regular season game there too. B1G for some reason thinks it is. Worst footing of all the bowl games. Guess who is always going to be a prime candidate if qualified

Being forced to give up home field advantage because Izzo wants to play us at MSG rather than the RAC stinks to high heaven.

Scheduling most years has been ridiculously biased against RU. Was the League Office giggling when our first three games this year were against Indiana, Purdue and Ohio State? The predicted top three teams in our conference. And it’s been the same way many a year.

Best punter in the nation the last two years and he can’t make First Team B1G?

RU baseball not making the NCAA tourney? How did that happen?? B1G not going to bat for us…so to speak…

Just some of the examples of being treated unfairly.

RU fans love the B1G. It’s high time the B1G loves us back.
I prefer the hate.

So we’ve told you how we feel. How about you give us your thoughts?

I love the addition of Rutgers. It feels more natural.

Maryland, not so much, but they are apart of the league and it will develop, I hope.

I love our border rivals, but they are hit and miss.

Love Nebraska being in the league. We should have been playing every year before they joined.

Overall I am very pleased and like the idea of being a national conference. And like the new idea of new rivalrys.

And Rutgers fans have been a pleasure to interact with. The future is bright for RU and Delaney saw it

Love me some B1G. When I moved to Minnesnowta in ‘00, I was hoping against hope we’d get in so I can still catch the games, and then it happened. 👌
