Does betting against RU equate to being a bad fan?

Preface: I always root for Rutgers to win regardless if I bet against them. Some may say it's impossible to do so once you have skin in the game. But I rationalize by thinking I would certainly pay whatever amount I bet for the upset. However, I do fully intend to win the bet.

Anyway, since the start of the football season, I am 7-1 (edit: the 1 loss comes from betting the over on season o/u) on football and basketball. Last year I was 10-1 on football. I've decided to re-invest any money I win betting against Rutgers as a donation to the athletic department. (Why don't I just donate the amount I'm willing to bet? I don't want to. This is in addition to my normal donation.)

Many on this board knew (almost 100%) that we would not cover spreads against the tougher part of the schedule. We should start a fund and take advantage of that knowledge and donate it all back to improve.

So in the words of the great Jerry Maguire, who's coming with me?

Of all the crazy posts this may take the cake. Congratulations.

I'm not even going to go into why this is the single dumbest idea I've heard but to your statement about rooting and betting against RU at the same time, I've never, ever met a gambler who wants to lose a single bet. Never.

Not if the bet helps RU win. I bet $40 that PSU would beat RU in the A-10 final back in '89. No points. 4:1 odds=$10 bet on other side. Best $40 I ever lost.

If any of you want to get rich, I will buy a stock, and you can short it.

I stopped betting, and the stock market twenty years ago for a reason.

if you're going to bet against RU, place that wager on a different game, there's many other games to play on Saturdays...

I mentioned I fully intend on winning the bet. What I hope to do is take that money I win on an RU loss (I do bet on RU to win or cover when appropriate) and turn into something positive. It is somewhat conflicting - hence coming to the board for other opinions.

I have never bet against RU and never would, but if I were so inclined, betting against RU basketball these days is easy money.

Its OK, ONLY if you donate your winnings to the Athletic department for football. That way we take a short term loss and turn it into long term gains.
