Does Rutgers still have awesome concerts on campus?

For 50 cents you could have seen the Talking Heads in the Rose Room at the Rutgers Student Center in 1977. In the spring of 1979, Al Pacino was also there talking about acting.

Townsend, Clapton, Ozzie and others playing Scotch Plains. Amazing. Somebody at UC was doing a nice job of getting these bands there.

Saw Mc Guinn, Clark and Hillman (former Byrds) in 78 or so
Saw Elvis Costello with Squeeze opening at the Barn in Feb 81.
I recall (but didn't go see) Styx, the Outlaws and Jefferson Starship (separately) playing the RAC in 79-80.
Also, around that late 70's time period Springsteen wanted to play the RAC, but supposedly Tom Young said no because there was a basketball game the next night,
Interesting that this story about Young/Springsteen persists to this day -- he relented in plenty of time and rescheduled his practice to the Livingston Gym -- Princeton just outbid us for that date. Then, like now, people looked for someone to attack and Young was vilified for this even though it was not accurate.

I've heard Springsteen was signed/sealed/delivered to play at the RAC when Young balked. It was only after Young first balked that Bruce's management approached Princeton about Jadwin Gym's availability. It worked out great for Bruce and his camp because Princeton offered more money than RU after Young made arrangements to switch practice sites. If Young said OK to the concert immediately Princeton never would have been contacted.

Just to add a few more from the 60's (sorry if I duplicate any from the Source's list:
Ray Charles, Muddy Waters, Dick Gregory, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, Tom Paxton.

Attended the Simon and Garfunkle concert - actually, Mugrat put out a front page article that S&G canceled because of ROTC at RU - I was really upset, because I had just started dating a new girl (now my wife) who was really looking forward to the concert - it wasn't until I delved into the inner pages that I realized they had fooled me.

Also, was a huge Rutgers Jazz festival at the stadium - forget who all was there - Roberta Flack was one.

Southside Johnny was in the cook gym!!! I was on the Cook College concert committee! We also put on Lou Reed, 38 Special, Poco (Billy Crystal was opening act), Melissa Manchester and others! Don't forget Springsteen at the barn, along with The Kinks and Jacson Brown and Jerry Garcia! New Riders of the Purple Sage at Livingston gym!
Add Dave Mason at the barn.

I saw in the 80s at RU

Psych Furs
REM
Aztec Camera
Paul Young
The Alarm

Sure I'm forgetting some

I was there and agree. It was easily the greatest show I've been to. The entire gym was a mosh pit. But if I recall correctly, Cypress Hill was the headliner. They were much bigger at the time.

Big Audio Dynamite & The Farm played denier park in 1991. When they played "Rush" that park was shaking with everybody jumping.

Saw Big Audio and the Farm in the same tour at the Sound Factory in NYC. Both were great

Great list from 1993. I also remember in the spring of 93 the Lemonheads and Live both played at diener fest. I also remember seeing blues traveler at Livingston but I don't remember what year that was. Gotto agree about the Rage Against the Machine/cypress hill show on Livingston and 93. That was epic and I still have bruises from somewhere on my body LOL!

Music comes in all sizes shapes and colors.Just like we do. Just because I don't care for something doesn't mean it sucks. I like everything from Nat King Cole to EPDM.

Lou Reed at the College Ave Student Center circa 1972
Doobie Brothers outside at Busch or Livingston at end of the Semester, early 70s.
Billy Joel at the Barn early 70s
Sha Na Na at the Barn early 70s

When I was 14, my brother was at RU and took me to the Barn to see my first concert ever. Huey Lewis and the News. Then, when I was at RU in the late 80s I saw:

REM
Meatloaf
Psychedelic Furs
Squeeze
The Replacements
The Smithereens
Big Audio Dynamite

In the late '70s, I remember the following:
Talking Heads (found the Audio of this concert on YouTube this morning!)
The Cars
Jerry Garcia Band
The Kinks
The B-52s
Boston
Meat Loaf
Joe Jackson
Van Morrison
Al Jarreau

Another thread where I'm amazed at the age of some people around here.
No idea how you rememeber all this from decades ago.

2002-2006
Trust Company and Depswa
Sum 41
Phantom Planet

I saw a ton of concerts around then so its a little "fuzzy" what was at Rutgers or somewhere else.

I need to find my stack of concert tickets.

No one saw Jimmy Cliff at the Barn in the late 80's?
What a show!...had me plenty of red, red wine!!!
