Rock isn't dead. Guns N Roses will be the biggest attraction at Coachella, even though Adam, I mean Calvin Harris, sorry, is on the bill.
Interesting that this story about Young/Springsteen persists to this day -- he relented in plenty of time and rescheduled his practice to the Livingston Gym -- Princeton just outbid us for that date. Then, like now, people looked for someone to attack and Young was vilified for this even though it was not accurate.Saw Mc Guinn, Clark and Hillman (former Byrds) in 78 or so
Saw Elvis Costello with Squeeze opening at the Barn in Feb 81.
I recall (but didn't go see) Styx, the Outlaws and Jefferson Starship (separately) playing the RAC in 79-80.
Also, around that late 70's time period Springsteen wanted to play the RAC, but supposedly Tom Young said no because there was a basketball game the next night,
If Slash and Duff aren't there, it's not Guns n Roses.
I've heard Springsteen was signed/sealed/delivered to play at the RAC when Young balked. It was only after Young first balked that Bruce's management approached Princeton about Jadwin Gym's availability. It worked out great for Bruce and his camp because Princeton offered more money than RU after Young made arrangements to switch practice sites. If Young said OK to the concert immediately Princeton never would have been contacted.Interesting that this story about Young/Springsteen persists to this day -- he relented in plenty of time and rescheduled his practice to the Livingston Gym -- Princeton just outbid us for that date. Add Dave Mason at the barn.Southside Johnny was in the cook gym!!! I was on the Cook College concert committee! We also put on Lou Reed, 38 Special, Poco (Billy Crystal was opening act), Melissa Manchester and others! Don't forget Springsteen at the barn, along with The Kinks and Jacson Brown and Jerry Garcia! New Riders of the Purple Sage at Livingston gym!
And Gil Scott Heron at the Cook Gym!Add Dave Mason at the barn.
Also, was a huge Rutgers Jazz festival at the stadium - forget who all was there - Roberta Flack was one.
I was there and agree. It was easily the greatest show I've been to. The entire gym was a mosh pit. But if I recall correctly, Cypress Hill was the headliner. They were much bigger at the time.
Big Audio Dynamite & The Farm played denier park in 1991. When they played "Rush" that park was shaking with everybody jumping.
Yeah, saw Laura Nyro there. Also Bonnie Raitt who later showed up at the Corner Tavern for some beers!I'm pretty sure that a few of the songs on the Kinks live album "One for the Road" were recorded in the Barn.
Music comes in all sizes shapes and colors.Just like we do. Just because I don't care for something doesn't mean it sucks. I like everything from Nat King Cole to EPDM.
