Don’t rush Geo back in

We need him. Geo is not the best defensive player, but he defends better than a few guys who played a decent amount of minutes.

we just don’t have enough perimeter players right now.

You can’t argue that ball movement has been much better without him.
It may simply be a case of it's time for him to not be running the offense. He's athletic, clutch, and a good player; his defense is occasionally lackadaisical and his ball handling leaves much to be desired. More than anything else though, his fire the last couple of games we've played have not been there. Definitely a lack of hunger to just play, but it's possible watching the team play without him may reignite that as it did in years past. Hoping he comes back and kicks B1G rear end.

This. Heading into B10 does anyone want to count on the same level of offensive production as last night without Geo? Another scorer is a critical need.

If I was Pike I’d be in no rush to get Geo back in. A lot more energy and defense without him.
You are clueless basketball fan. We did not win tonight because Geo was not there , we won because the team was desperate and came out with energy that the RAC provided against a legitimate opponent , and Caleb and Paul are not airballing shots and missing 90% of them and are back to being stat sheet stuffers and making easy shots , and the team defended the 3 much better. It did not hurt that Ron put in an All Big 10 performance either. When Geo comes back and if Caleb and Paul continue to play like this , then we have 5 scoring options on the court and can play with anyone . The obituaries written about this team were stupid and short sighted just like this horrendous terrible title thread by you.

Where did I say never play him? I said not to rush him back. Get him fully healthy and don’t rush him. Paul and Caleb should continue to be on the ball even when he returns.

I personally believe Geo pouts too much and sometimes sucks energy from the team, and on other occasions is the spark.

I won’t stoop to calling you clueless. I can disagree and still not devolve to name calling.

Some things are better left unsaid. If we got the kind of contributions that Geo has made to the program over an extended period from more players, the team’s stature would be a lot higher. This thread comes off as snarky and short-sighted.

Sorry about the stupid comment. Some of these Fire Pike threads have garnered the market on stupidity and I thought you fell into that type of poster. I apologize.
Yes, wait until Geo is fully healthy but when Geo comes back we need him to make any type of run. Sometimes Geo is too passive and doesn’t asset himself into the game immediately and that is frustrating but I was hoping his last go around we would not be seeing those games. We need Geo getting 15 points a night and he can run the point as well as anyone on the team . I don’t see the pouting you see but I do not think it affects the team. Taking over or not taking over affects the team and when he doesn’t , it hurts the team.

You can see the pouting in his body language. Maybe pouting isn’t the right word, more like frustration.

The injury to Geo could be a benefit down the road as it allows guys like Jones, Mag and others who are newer to the game gain experience and minutes and find their footing as we head into BIG play where they will all be needed. I dont know if the offense looked more fluid without Geo, I think the biggest thing is that with Geo in there is that I get the sense that his teammates besides Ron defer to him rather than aggressively hunting their shots. If Caleb and Paul can play point, it would be great to get Geo off the ball for spurts and allow him to work that way and find some catch and shoot 3s. I always have contested that the reason Geo's 3pt shooting has fallen off is the high quantity of under 5 second shot clock 3s that he is forced to launch due to poor possessions. When Corey was here and he played off the ball he was a 35%+ 3 ball shooter.

We will still need Geo 1000% and anyhow who thinks differently is just foolish. Hopefully what these games do is allow the team to realize that they can get their shots too and it allows the ball to flow more and not just defer.

We need Geo's offensive threat and production when he's into doing more than just stand and take 3's. We don't need his poor defense and lack of rebounding.
Doesn't need to play 33 mins per game. Up to Pike to figure out how and where to use him better. I think sitting there and watching his team play well without him will motivate him?
Not his biggest fan but he is certainly a card you don't keep in the deck and we need him playing well to win some very tough games coming up.

Real idiotic stuff in this thread. Yeah, we don't need experienced guard depth heading into league play, not at all. And for an added bonus in this thread, more body language and NIL garbage. Move along, nothing to see here.

I started the proverbial “here” over 2 years ago why wouldn’t I be? And what’s the problem with it?
I just thought you would be here a little faster. Were you delayed by dragging around the dead horse you are beating?

Something like 20posts prior to yours and only 1 of them was outright negative/sarcastic. The vast majority saying pretty much saying we need Geo. This was perhaps the kindest GB thread in some time.

More than one. NIL and body language were separate posts. Splitting hairs- glad the sensible fans jumped in and nipped a crappy thread in the bud. It has been the other way around lately.

I'm really not familiar with the context of this repartee, I don't know the backstory, and RUPete may be totally off base, but considered strictly on its own merits - this post is brilliant. Bravo!

I think we are reading too much into the success of this last game vs the dismal start to the season.

That is.. if Geo was in and healthy.. I think we'd have done just as good or better with him in there.

I say that because I think the difference in this game was a coaching approach to it.. as well as the big name opponent... at the RAC.. and a team struggling and deciding to put MORE effort into everything.

This was a gut-check game and everyone passed.. players and coaches and fans and I think so, too, would Geo.

Geo was wearing his bling on the bench last night.

More game time for Jaden Jones is needed. Let the kid develop.

Don’t rush Geo back and risk aggravating the injury. Let him support his teammates from the bench.

We joked about that a bit... its like he wears that in case anyone wonders if that guy over there is Geo Baker.. "Oh, yeah, check the bling.. that's him!"

Of course, maybe that was a gift and he wears it to honor the giver. So its just a joke and a bit of an "Okay, Boomer" thing.
