Don't Be Cocky

Julian Newman.

Now a junior at Downey Christian School in Orlando, FL. He's quick and has the green light to shoot it from anywhere because his father is the head coach.

To my knowledge he has zero offers. Been playing varsity since the 6th grade. He's basically been daddy balling it ever since.

This year his school added a sophomore who can really shoot it. I tweeted that Downey Christian Schools offense looks better now than it has in the three years I've been watching it. Julian and his sister retweeted me but I only tweeted that because of the sophomore guard Emmanuel Maldonado.

He claims that he has chosen to skip the travel circuit and instead spend time improving his skills. However I can't see any of the major travel teams in Florida wanting this kid in their program.

A couple of Saturdays ago while sitting next to his team's bench I realize that his coach/father resembles Lou Bega. He just needs a white fedora.

Some sort of technical foul should be called for purposely throwing the ball off someone’s head. Hope it was. Two of those you should be tossed

Cocky and RU fanship typically doesn't go hand in hand - just sayin'

:flush:

AAU ball is literally street ball, it’s a joke

What a little punk (and I do mean little).

Glad he got it in the end

LMAO at "after Lamelo Ball the player most people seem to be watching is Julian Newman." He isn't even the player most people are watching in his hometown of Orlando. In fact, he is not the best college prospect on his own team.

OMG, this is a glittering disco ball of an example of why I don't pay attention to mixtapes and narration from people who have probably never played the game, or in Julian Newman's case, actually watched his team play.

He may not be the most watched person live or with actual scouts but he definitely is one of the more known high school players. Mostly because of mixtapes and over hyping by his father like the video mentioned. He got a lot of hype when he was too young and now people have been keeping up with him. Either to watch him fail or see his "flashy" highlights. People are unfortunately more interested in hype videos than actual recruits these days

That still boggles my mind because I know people here in Florida that don't know anything about him. I force myself to watch them at least once each season just in case someone else on the team is a good prospect. I learned, however, that I need to watch one of their first couple of games because if they do have someone that is a good prospect, he often transfers to another school during Christmas break.
