Duke vs NC State

Roy Williams kept UNC rolling
The implication is the immediate next hire being successful following a legend. At UNC, there were a couple other coaches and several years gap before Roy. You could argue that Gutheridge kept the program rolling during his short stint which was on the heels of Smith's long tenure but then it wasn't able to be sustained under Doherty so they went out and got Roy.

What you buy by being a program as prominent as Duke or UNC is time. Returning to the football analogies, Michigan and Notre Dame were always able to recruit at a high level and were able to return to winning as soon as they found the right coach. Eventually this would probably wear off but a new coach in a place like Duke or UNC, even if they followed a regime that failed miserably, would not need to start from the deep dark perception hole that a Steve Pikiell did.

I thought this might be a thread taking the officials out behind the woodshed for a lopsided whistle.
