Dunleavy: The advice Leonte Carroo gave Janarion Grant on staying at Rutgers vs. entering NFL Draft

Exactly. Which is why Grant needs to improve his WR status by coming back next season.

Lol. sooo glad you're not an nfl scout
Didn't he get hurt on a play where he was caught from behind? Grant is super quick and has great acceleration. But his top end speed is not there. He can be a great slot guy but needs to prove his hands first.

Watch the play again. He didn't get caught from behind. He slowed down because he broke like 4 tackles. He also ran into his own blocker. The defender had an angle and was actually in front of him.

He's already 23 and will turn 24 in the fall. NFL careers are crazy short, particularly for speed and quickness guys. There are only so many earning years and the most certain way to lose one of them is to stay in college. Those who think he should stay are recommending that he start his NFL career in a year when he will turn 25 during the season. That means if everything goes perfectly he'd have a 5 maybe 6 year career. He's gotta go now.

Is he good enough to make it in the NFL? Lots of speed and quickness guys just aren't good enough. Still can't figure out why Tim Brown never latched onto a team.

If he gets a Top 3 round grade, sure you go. But if he doesn't, and falls into the gray area, he's likely a late rounder or free agent, which means he's probably better off coming back. He"ll at least have his degree a year from now, and hopefully he'll have an impressive assortment of WR stats.

tough decision, but if he does go, we can certainly understand his rationale, given what you've mentioned and the information that he has a kid.

His age shouldn't be a factor in leaving. Either you are good enough to make a team or you aren't. That's the only thing that matters if deciding to stay or go. Degrees can be secured in the offseason
True, but in an irrelevant way. We're not picking a 23 year old off the street and asking whether he should declare for the draft. So, sure, Grant should first seek advice on whether he will be drafted or get a shot at a camp. And if the answer is yes or as close to yes as he wants it, and he wants to give the NFL a shot, then his age matters. At that point, he'd have very little reason to stay and lots of bad things that could happen if he does--loses an earning year from his potential career, gets further injured.

He is what he is. He's going to be a returner and a scat back who can also play WR. If he has more developing to do (though his hands are what they are), he should do that in the NFL while he's getting paid. He can always come back to school and finish his degree. But he won't get the earning year back.

Because there are 3 guys ahead of him on the depth chart?

He's a rookie in the NFL, he's not struggling

While I have no interest in knocking Carroo, he is struggling. The notion that rookie WRs aren't impact players right away is gone. Kenny Stills is a very average WR and Carroo couldn't beat him out.

It doesn't mean that LC won't still be a good pro but the fact he didn't play isn't because he's a rookie...
