Basketball Dylan Harper's heroics gives Rutgers 66-63 victory against Seton Hall

Me too Rutgers athletics every single time

Dont want to be a Debbie downer a win is a in especially in a rivalry game....but Seton Hall sucks. They've lost to some bad teams.

We need to play better. We need to hit FT's absolutely awful today

They missed some key FTs but they contributed about 90% of this win. Other guys need to step up.
Agreed but when your offense is geared for 2 guys taking 75% of the shots it does not lead to many guys stepping up. Cant see us being an NCAA dance team w/o spreading offense around

Just my opinon but RU has been pumping AB & DH for the last 6 months whether it be for Advertising & publicity....but does not set a great team culture. We are not winning more than we lose with offense centered around 2 guys. It needs to be spread around.

Yeah this team is in trouble if we continue to play like this. Too much iso ball (i get its by design), poor free throw shooters, poor rebounding/boxing out, poor defense, poor communication on D.

O most definitely if we had B1G players besides Ace and Dylan., I think most have now realized this team absolutely sucks. We just pulled off a nail bitter against a bad low major squad.

Other than that one ridiculous call (where the SHU kid walked/ fell down), I am not seeing any issue
C'mon. It is a question of degree. The refs called fouls on SHU, yes. But SHU was fouling early and often and obviously. Then the refs noticed more fouls called on SHU than RU so they evened things up with fouls by RU players they routinely let SHU get away with.

What about the late foul where teh guy did the obvious head bob? C'mon. The types of fouls called on both sides were far from even while the number of calls seemed "fair".

We got called for cutting out the legs of a guy. They did the same thing later and were not called... why? I'd contend it is because they number of fouls on SHU exceeded the number against RU. It would be uneven to call more on SHU at that point. Same foul. Same OBVIOUS foul easily seen by the very same official just a couple minutes later.

They sucked... but so did our team and coaches in many ways.. FTs especially.

you can always point out bad calls against your team. I am 100% certain SHU fans were saying the exact opposite in a few calls. So you pointing out a few calls that didn’t go our way doesn’t prove a thing.

I don’t shy away from whining about the refs but I didn’t see it in this game. I am certain there were a few bad calls but, on balance, I didn’t see a competitive disadvantage resulting from uneven officiating (which DOES happen a few times a year) … but not yesterday. Sorry.

Fact is… refs don’t screw Rutgers every game LOL. But they certainly do a few times a year (despite what some on here refuse to EVER acknowledge )

Ps, during and after a few game this year (maybe 2) there were a bunch of RU fans, including myself, complaining about the officiating. The fact that you seem to be the only one complaining about this game…might tell you something. Just sayin’

I will grant you this: For years.. decades really.. We'd see bad treatment by officials and some of the better explanations I have seen are that star coaches and star programs and star players get star treatment. And we never had any of that in our favor.

I will grant you that there were calls given to our stars that were generous.

And another explanation from the past that applies still is that if you take the balk into the pain you get calls and freethrows. And also that you have to play to what the officials are calling... meaning if they allow getting rough.. get rough.. and we have generally had smaller, softer teams.

But within this last game and many others you saw a call against us that should have bene called the same way on the other guys and it just was not called. Once, twice.. no big deal.. maybe ref didn't see it. But you can see find cases where it was an obvious call that the ref CHOSE not to call... why? My current working theory is this:

SHU fouls early and often.. as did A&M btw.. and builds up a 7-2 fouls tally in RU favor. As soon as the refs saw Rutgers was shooting 1 and 1s and Holloway got on the officials about this unbalance.. the whistles shifted to calling light crap against Rutgers and allowing SHU to get away with a lot.

That is what actually happened in both halfs and if you bother to look for it rather than assuming officiating is fair, you will see it.

Now.. is that because we didn't play hard tough D against SHU? Is it because the coach didn't recognize this issue and send in scrubs to purposefully foul to even things up so refs could go back to calling a fair game? I lean toward the latter... but, still.. why not just keep the calls at the same level and force SHU to stop fouling rather than making the foul tally look more even?

1) pikes teams have generally been known to be the opposite - usually pikes teams are very, very physical. So you literally couldn’t be more off. Toughness and physicality is exactly what pikes teams are known for

2) “assuming officiating is fair” - as I have said repeatedly, I agree that sometimes RU absolutely does get hosed. Is it lack of respect? Is it because other coaches ride the refs more than pike? Suspect it’s probably both (when it does happen)

3) you seem to be an island here buddy. While during/ after certain games RU fans (including myself!!!!) have bitched endlessly about the officials. You seem to be the only one talking about it with respect to this game. There’s probably a reason for that.

Why the f**k is this thread up to 19 pages? We beat our biggest rival in a nationally televised game with a very exciting finish! Who's up next? Go RU!

1) Thats BS.. the "physical" thing.. that's what every opposing coach and announcer says but it is simply not true. That's what the opponents say to justify getting physical with us. How did you take Cliff out of the game? Get physical with him. Mulcahy was physical in the sense you mean and was often called for it.. and he had limitations in other athletic areas.

Yes.. the Pike teams put in tremendous physical effort.. but when people use the terms "physical" is generally means pushing guys around for boards and positions.. that has not been ANY Pike team that I know of.

Last year we were last in shooting percentage and 3rd in the conference for offensive boards.. largely we had a lot of opportunity for boards because see sucked ar shooting. But on the defensive boards? Middle of the pack. Why? because we were so physical? I think not. D-boards is where you can see physicality. Prior year? 22-23? We were below middle of the pack in D boards. We haven't been physical. Who looks like the most physical player we have this year? Is it Ogbole? I don't see it. Harper plays more physically than any of them.. though I think Sommerville has that inclination.

3) when we win or lose regardless of calls no one wants to be "that guy" because you all had coaches when you played and parents who supported the coaches telling you to never complain about refs, never blame the ref... you have been programmed to accept taking up the butt from refs. I got that same coaching too and followed it. It's the coaches' jobs to complain. Meanwhile almost every HOF coach not named Wooden gave refs hell. I wonder, why is that? Why is Coach K or Izzo or Boeheim or Carnesca etc etc complaining about calls okay but fans seeing those same calls and complaining somehow a sign they are crazy with some pathetic personality flaw?

In spite of all this and the free throw struggles, we are so fortunate to have a special player like Dylan.
May be the best Freshman in the country ( sorry Flagg) and one of the best players in the country.
But as people said, make 5 more free throws and we are up 7 going into the last minute. Which forces the opponent to continue to foul and allows you to extend the lead.
