either one sickens me. if meyer already planned on bringing GS on board while ash was considering the move to rutgers and didn't tell ash he would bring on a jersey guy recruiting jersey as a replacement , he is a real dick. end result is he undercuts the perception of a growing threat of an improving rutgers and the coaching future of ash with a single strike.

What would we have to do to get you to confine your drama-filled, logic-less, teenage-angst, all-caps posts to a single thread?
your disdain is quite enough. although I do have an issue with "logic-less" . You may bot be capable of adroit analysis.

Here's the issue:

Rutgers is behind OSU, PSU, Michigan and Notre Dame to get to NJ recruits. Really, Rutgers is a distant fifth. Schiano hurts Michigan and PSU more than Rutgers.

In the end, Chris Ash has to find a way to get this program into the heat of that mix. With or without Schiano, the mission is the same, nothing has changed.

Why do you want a coach that no one else wanted at his price? He's considered only good enough for a coordinator role right now that is his value.

Lets see how much Ohio State fans like GS after a few GS head scratches games. Lose two games there and you might get fired.

Yes...sure...because Meyer is SO worried about the rise of RU...riiiiiiiight!

Is there a face palm emoji!?!

You are nuts. Why the hell would Coach Meyer be obligated to tell Ash anything about who he was considering as a replacement for him? Ridiculous.

I will say this Meyer knows more than anyone that if Rutgers can start keeping the top players in the state home then we will be battling with osu every year so yes I would say he's a little worried that Rutgers has a capable coach who is a really good recruiter.

Exactly this and nothing more. We have at least two steps to go before we have to worry about losing Nj to OSU. It's not like we get the top 5 players year after year anyway.

And I bet GS will be hitting FL just as hard, if not harder the Nj.

I'm going to try to respond with some basic logic that the OP seams to be missing.
Meyer would have been happy as hell to keep Ash on his staff. He has has a NC and a top 10 D with this guy. He was NOT looking for any replacement at all while Ash was still there.
Meyer supported Ash to Rutgers. Meyer did not support Ash to Cuse.
Meyer would have hired Schiano as DC regardless if Ash went to Cuse/RU/UVA/Md or where ever. Meyer and Schiano are good friends and Greg was even up there as a guest this spring.
Meyer is fully aware of NJ recruits.
Meyer is smart enough to know that if RU gets the right HC and the school starts to support the team, RU will start to get more than there share of these recruits and if RU ever does build a fence around NJ, it has the chance to skyrocket up the rankings.
Meyer hired Schiano for his knowledge of defense plus a little "perception" to cause exactly what it has done already. Laughing along the way as Greg will be directly responsible to recruit very few kids out of NJ.
Schiano was actually a dick to most of the NJ coaches but during his time here, the coaches started to realize they had an option for their players that wanted to stay close to home and get some good exposure.
Schiano will more than likely do a NJ tour for OSU but that is Meyer just wanting to keep OSU exposure out front. It will create a buzz for a while but as stated above, after the buzz fades a bit, Greg goes back to being that dictating prick everyone loved so much. That won't hurt OSU because it is OSU but don't think HS coaches are drolling about how they now need to tell their players to go to OSU. that is just silly

Let's say you are a defensive recruit. Two coaches come into your living room.
HC Ash- Fresh off NC and top 10 D. Has coached Joey Bosa, JJ Watts etc...Wisc/OSU resume
DC Schiano- Big season in 2006 Big wins - L'Ville 2006 Since 2006, a couple of top 25 defenses, failed NFL coach, out of coaching going on 3 years but at least he grew up in NJ

Schiano's advantage is the OSU on his polo shirt.

Why doi even come here? Who cares? Schiano is a good recruiter and a good defensive coach. We got killed by OSU in back to back years. It can't get any worse than it already is. Stop with the negative. What Ash is a better coach than both of them? Ever think of that? Of not, because everything here likes to assume to worse.

We are still sooooo green. Regardless of who told whom what and when, welcome to the way it's done in P5 football.

The people who think there is some great conspiracy with Meyer, instead of realizing that Rutgers just needed a new coach, hired away a coordinator, and that school just needed to replace that coordinator and was able to get someone very very qualified with connections to the head coach at that school, are not using their brains and must realize the world does not revolve around Rutgers.

The day HCUM is so threatened by Rutgers that he would hire its ex-coach to make sure he secured New Jersey best recruits is the day we can finally say that Rutgers football has arrived.

Meyer and Schiano are friends and Schiano was available. Schiano is a very good Defensive guy and Meyer hired him. How the heck can you spin a conspiracy out of that? Most fans are like the jilted lover that never got over it!

Schiano ran out on his best recruiting class. Meyer and the OSU facilities are still the best recruiters in Ohio. Ash knows the score and has recruited in the BIG longer than Meyer and Schiano. I think he will hold his own as long as he says what he means and means what he says. Bottom line is this, kids in NJ don't want to be a punch line. Bring RU much needed direction and respect and the kids will come. Being a member of the BIG and improving the facilities won't hurt. Kids want to talk shit and those last two help with that.

This is accurate...

That's really not true, as much as some of us would like it to be. GS in Columbus hurts Ash locally big time.

eh - not so sure. we're still not in a position to consistently win head to head battles against OSU. And if we're in a close battle, I dont think GS is going to tip the scales in OSUs favor

look - this is a great pick up for them. And on its face, it seems like a dent for us, but when you step back, it really isnt that big of a deal. I would much more worry about GS if he was the HC or on staff at PSU, UM, MD, UVA, Pitt, BC...the schools we consistently battle recruits for...

I get the concern - I do. I just think that emotions are high since it just happened. I think when things settle down, we'll see it's more of the same.

OSU is OSU.

Meyer is about as worried as the Harlem Globetrotters coach is after finding out the Washington Generals just signed an athletic big man that can play both the 5 and the 4.

But in all seriousness Meyer has said before Rutgers has a lot of potential. Was the reason he hired schiano to keep Rutgers down of course not. He could have hired anyone and he could still get blue chippers. Schiano was one of the best defensive coaches on the market.

Com'on man how many threads about this are you going to start? It's really not a big deal - AT ALL - to be honest.

Urban Meyer is a friend of Greg Schiano. He gave him this position to repair his reputation. Obviously no one wants him as a HC right now. He will be a hot commidity next off season.

Meyer was looking out for Ash's best interest when he apparently told him to avoid Cuse and take the RU job seriously. I don't think you can deny that. He fulfilled his obligation to do the best he could for those who work for him. Can't ask for more.

Once Ash accepted the RU job he became just another competitor on the field and on the recruiting trail. Meyer has no further obligation to Ash. His only job is to make OSU as good as possible and, as we know, Schiano is recognized as a top defensive mind. Many here felt Greg would end up as a DC in the NFL. Why then would anyone be shocked he was wanted at one to the top college programs in the country?

GS is not a threat. Glad we have Ash. I initially wanted GS as HC here but now i think we are better off.
similar for me, I was okay with schiano, but find myself feeling better about ash, only wish he wasn't doing this columbus to new brunswick commute
