I'm happy that we landed an OT with a BiG frame from a historically strong HS. I am surprised that Johnson, playing at a well known school, with offers from RU, BC, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Pitt, WV, VA and 8 others is only a 2 star player, while Ted Field is a 3 star player while only holding offers from Temple and UMass.

Seems like a pretty big disconnect between star rating and demand for said players.

Pretty sure academics are taken into consideration in the star system!?! Maybe TF is an excellent student? I heard measurable's aside he lacks athleticism? To me the offers speak loudly as to his desirability.

Eli Johnson is a 3* on Scout, which is more in keeping with his list of offers. Don't know anything about Field but since he's not coming here, it doesn't really matter to me.

The star systems seem about as precise as earthquake prediction, which is to say, not very. Over the years, there seems to have been a geographical bias toward the South, possibly because they have a longer playing season, and in some cases play in the spring as well as in the fall, so the players get a lot more practice time. That bias also feeds into ESPiN's biases very nicely, so it is often exacerbated by that corporation.

Between Rivals and Scout ratings, just about every one of our current recruit list is a 3*. Hopefully a few 4* and a 5* will fall into place soon (or later, better than never.)

The star system heavily favors the players who PAY to go to sponsored camps by the sites who rate them.

The only true system is when the coaches get to see players up close and see if they can fit their systems. This is why most people look at offers rather than stars.
