How many of you guys play this? I have seen the commercials but only really learned about it while at PSU because my RV neighbor was watching my tv. Not a big fantasy guy because of the commitment but seems like this could be fun. Especially the west coast games after my wife has gone to sleep.

It is fun, but people need to realize that it really should be viewed. As entertainment, I have played, but after losing winning losing and losing, I've decided that it really isn't worth my time. I would spend an hour or more each day trying to sort through stats picking lineups. I would usually play $1-$3 a day mostly baseball and it would def keep me interested in games I normally would never watch. Reading this article really confirmed my thoughts that the average player can almost never come out on top,

Yea, I'm not buying into the "I won 4 million dollars" promo. Just curious if it would be worth spending 5 dollars and watching 3 PAC games at 1130 on Saturday?

R1766U has it right. Keep it for entertainment purposes only and don't think you are going to jump in and make money. Of course you may get lucky and win something, but keep in mind that you are playing against groups of people who using software to create multiple lineups.

Fanduel, Draftkings and other DFS sites have a lot of players playing for a living, most of whom were playing poker for a living and switched to DFS. These are seriously smart people who have dedicated their work weeks to creating lineups.

With that said there is money to be made because the onslaught of advertisements has brought a lot of new blood into the games. DFS parallels poker in that you play against other people and you only have to be better then them. The problem is that in the GPPs, the good players put in a ton of entries (muli-entry tournaments) so your 1 or 2 entries is going up against a ton of good teams. Think if you enter a poker tourney and have to beat the same pro 500 times, that is what you have to do in a GPP.

DFS has 2 types of games 50/50s (cash games) and Guaranteed Prize Pools (GPPs). The GPPs like the the DraftKings and Fanduel millionaire makers pay a lot but you are competing against 400,000 plus entries with the elite genius's putting 500 or more lineups. Again you can get lucky in these, but don't count on it.

With the cash games, you only have to beat half the field. My advice is to play the 50/50s to try to build a bankroll, and the GPPs for fun.

In general you want high floor players in the cash games and high ceiling/low owned percentage player in GPPs.

Good luck.

a couple of my friends tried it a few months ago.. they said it's garbage.. kinda like going to AC and expecting to win the powerball

think of it like this

Dropped a few bucks into it and started the same thread a few week back. It is sort of like playing the slots in AC. If you are 50/50 or H2H you will likely win about half the time, unless you are a genius or total dope.

The key is that the 10% rake by the house is much higher than casinos. The end result is play 2 $1.00 games and split..,,,,you lose $0.20 (10%). The house pulls in the rake. My understanding Is Fanduel has about 125 employees so cosy are probably low

As always the house will be the winner. That said its a lot of fun and if I blow $25 in a month it beats going to crappy movies.

Ttech vs Baylor has a ton of interest today. Highest over under ever at 90

I deposited $100 before the NFL season. Last week I had an incredible lineup and I netted $10. It really is like a lottery ticket. This week I'm going to try a game with only about 220 players in it. Maybe I can do something against a smaller field.

Two things about the DFS industry:

1> The sharks win 95% of the time.

Saahil Sud is a fake-sports apex predator. He enters hundreds of daily contests in baseball and football under the name "maxdalury," and he almost always trounces the field. He claims to risk an average of $140,000 per day with a return of about 8 percent. Sud studied math and economics at Amherst College and took a job in data science at a digital marketing firm before shifting to full-time fantasy. He's now the top-ranked daily fantasy sports player, according to Rotogrinders, a stats site for daily fantasy players. He says he's made more than $2 million so far this year.

Does the influx of new players in September make for easier money? Sud laughs at the question. “A lot easier,” he says. Sud's theory is that the NFL season even makes the action on daily fantasy baseball more lucrative for the sharks, since impatient players are often tempted to rewager money won on Sundays during the next week even if they don't follow MLB closely."

AND

2> The industry will die soon. Neither of the big players is profitable or expects to be by 2018.

I won $25K on my third day. If you have an addictive personality, it's bad. If you can bet within your means, it's worth it. It takes up a lot of your time if you really research it. People are winning tons of money everyday, but very few people.

Check the standings of SN's College Football Pick-Em Tourney and you'll know the reason I don't play Fanduel, Draftkings and other sites like that.

I don't play, could see how some might get addicted, but the constant commercials are annoying. They must be making a crap load of money to afford all that air time. These sites will be popping up everywhere.

Update: articles saying they don't make money boggles my mind with all the fantasy suckers throwing all that money away.

The industry and especially FD and DK's are BIG $$$ losers at this point JPhoboken.

I do not hear the commercials but have stopped going to NBA.com and ESPN.com
because the DFS ads equal the content by week 1 of football season and last Monday
on Media day for all of the NBA teams. If they were stocks, I would be short both companies,
even with all of the VC talk that they will eventually merge.
What is the saying, If you have 2 QB's, you have no Quarterback (in the NFL--not college.)?

I play draftkings. Im up like 60 bucks so far on the season. It makes the games a bit more interesting. Just dont go in expecting to win a ton of money.

I don't like how widely it is being advertised. To me, it is straight up gambling and I think it is going to create a new group of people who are addicted to gambling.

I expect them to face reality when the eventual Congressional investigation happens. Hope the DFC sites have enough money to grease the palms of some of our Congressmen.

Do these sites let you play sans money? Or are there any free sites that have weekly leagues?

their commercials have killed my interest in watching football on tv by about 90%. can't wait till they lose all their money.

It's unbelievable that these sites would allow these professional card counters to dominate their games. It's a crooked casino

It's fun but it's almost 90% gambling. Yes there is some prep that you can do to identify favorable matchups and whatnot but at the end of the day you have no control over how the real-life players actually perform. You can find the perfect matchup on paper but then if the guy is knocked out in the first quarter, you're screwed.

I do two lineups a week and I'm $20 down on the season from $100 deposit. If I beat the odds once time, great. If not, it's money I can afford to spend. I wouldn't recommend that treat it differently than that.

I definitely think the key is to focus more on the 50/50s and the pools with smaller groups of people. Seems like if I'm in a group with less than 100 or 200 people I'm making out a lot better than the 10,000 people groups for a chance to win up to a million bucks

There are way more interesting things that you can do after your wife has gone to sleep than play fan duel....

it's not regulated

anybody work for a company that could handle being a third party data integrity/watchdog ? money to be made they have to hire one.

Anyone know of a good online wagering site ? You know one that is easy to deposit and can get your money out when you win ? You know if someone I knew like a friend wanted to wager

I signed up this week and deposited $100. I won $120 so I have $220 plus about $60 of credits to use. Plan on playing about $30 a week and if I hit I will be happy but I won't deposit any more money.

5dimes is as safe as it gets. one free payout per month and a few deposit options. you can pm me questions if you want. (if there is pm here?)

I'm shocked. Insider trading and self dealing. Who could have thunk it?

Just Curious, I never played. I thought it was like fantacy football. How is there insider information? I thought the game is based upon player performance.

Heard a radio interview that said the advantage came from knowing which players were getting picked heavily, where alternative picks have better potential payouts.

complex algorithms used by a number of players to set diverse line-ups, and now an employee of a competing company using non-public information for gain. This appears to be a stacked deck. No thanks.

I know one of the guys who won $1mm last year. He's a professional fantasy sports blogger/player now. Quit his job at one of the big investment banks. Aside from his big win, he's averaging several thousand a week in winnings.

Estimated that <3% of "players " winning 90% of money.

Many big winners are using advanced computer programs and playing hundreds or thousands of entries at a time.

Now finding workers using inside info to gain advantage.

If you're playing for fun, enjoy. Otherwise, you're probably a sucker not a square.

When there's $ involved, someone will find an edge that others won't or can't have access to.

Why DFS is "skill" and online poker is "gambling " is absurd.

Only a matter of time until there's major cheating scandal.

The inside knowledge is related to the PRICE the players will be listed at for teh next week/contest.

You get that early and you have more time to maximize value of your "team".. holdings.

Yes, it is akin to knowing what the earning report will say, though it only provides a better opportunity and is not a sure thing as buying or selling a stock based on knowing the earnings report info before it comes out.

As shown earlier, online poker has had cheats as well.. viruses that reveal your cards to the opposition.. and insiders giving your hold cards to opposition. Some smart guy proved teh results of a specific person were way too perfect.. perfectly playing hands every time.. folding when he was beat, raising when he wasn't.. over and over.. playing perfect. knowing what cards would come.

And then you have the organized schemes like "chip dumping" in tournaments.
