I know most won’t agree, and won’t happen, BUT..here me out.

Am I having a reading comprehension issue with this post? Ace and Dylan don’t pass the NBA eye test?

For who? Whoever is saying that needs to stop commenting on all things basketball.

Dylan (when 100%) would have started or gotten significant playing time on a lot of NBA teams this year.

Ace is OOZING with talent, guy is going to be a walking 25-30PPG NBA star.

Them coming back to RU does absolutely nothing for their careers. There is literally no benefit.

Cooper Flagg is a very good basketball player, but will not be able to carry a franchise like Dylan and will not ever have the pure scoring ability Ace has. Flagg will go #1 because of his recent streak, but also because not drafting him #1 will get you fired as a GM.

The best thing Rutgers can hope for is that our core stays intact, Ace and Dylan become household names with RU attached, and Pike figures out what the hell is going on next year so he can cash in with wins next season while hitting the recruiting trail.

That’s it. That’s R Basketball’s future right now. If Ace/Dylan come back to RU there should be a statue built for them even if they go 10-10 again because it would be the most selfless act by any R athlete ever.

The "who is saying that" is likely CBB fans who don't watch the NBA or understand the NBA draft.

It's certainly not people who put out mock drafts.
Here's one published yesterday with Harper #2 and Ace #4.

So much for Dylan "losing stock" like the OP said. Maybe he has the super secret NBA contacts we aren't aware of?

You are shortening their career by 1 year so it was way more than $10,000,000
You are talking about an uncertain payout at the tail end of their career; even if that has the potential to be $50,000,000 it is definitely not worth $50,000,000 in expectation today. It would be an interesting thing to try to value.
It’s really laughable the way some fans talk about him.
Flagg or Bailey?

You are correct I haven't watched one single second of Flagg play but from a statistical perspective he's been clearly better:

Most of this is the 2024 period where Ace was not a top 30 freshman or a top 600 player overall:

Since the beginning of 2025 Ace has been ranked as the #2 freshman (behind Flagg) and the #9 player overall.

Sadly this has coincided with Harper being completely ineffective.

If we actually had 2024 Harper and 2025 Bailey at the same time we'd probably be quite good.

Significantly better is pretty on point. On fairly similar usage Flagg is close to 12 points per 100 possessions better than Bailey. Flagg is one of the best passers in college basketball irrespective of position, gets to and converts at the free throw line at a tremendous rate and one of the sport’s premier defenders.

Ace Bailey does none of that, even if the shooting splits are comparable
If you watch Duke a lot , you will notice how many times Cooper has no one on him at times and gets lost because defenders are running to defend the 3 point line. Earlier on , he was defended and struggled with turnovers. The last 4-5 games , I see no one defending him. The ACC has no defenders . Put Flagg in the SEC or BIG 10 and his numbers are reduced. ACE has a guy in his shorts the minute he touches the ball. Unlike Flagg , he doesn’t have a number of players that are killing it from 3 plus a rim runner that allows Flagg’s assist totals to be high when he is defended tightly which is rare. His 3 point shot is not better than ACE’s but his driving ability certainly is. I definitely think ACE should do more in the paint but Pike has him getting the ball in the 3 point corner or at the 3 point line on the wing instead of running puck and roll or pick and pop with him. It is hardly done. The teams play different competition with different defensive focus so it is hard to get a great read. Cooper is playing unreal the last 5-6 games but I am not sure that is due to his competition which has been dreadful in the ACC

One more year at RU isn't going to make either one of them NBA ready. The majority of the best players in the NBA right now spent a minimal amount of time playing college basketball.

Honestly, they should just do away with the one and done. Do those few months they spend in college really make a difference in these kid's maturity? There's the G league Ignite, but the NIL money pretty much squashed that idea.

He's been out of shape at times, and is 17 years older but he's listed 5 pounds heavier than Dylan and was listed 3 pounds heavier in college. I see a lot of Harden in Dylan. Grant was like 6'8, much longer.
Both (Grant and Harper) weren't really that quick off the dribble, but both seemed to be able to get to the rim (and finsih) at will.

Even not playing all that great he did average 24 and 11 against Auburn and Kentucky. 24 against Arizona. Did a little less against Kansas I think. Ace was 23 and 11 in his two SEC games. Flagg is excellent, no need to try and drag him down to build Ace up.

Caught a few minutes of Duke game last night. It was only a small sample, but Flagg did not impress.

Don't see it, other than they aren't blazing quick. Grant was probably behind Dylan as a freshman, didn't shoot three's yet, more a slasher. Loved Grant, might be on my all time fav list with Pippen.

Can't go wrong with that, impressed its only the 20th
It's worth watching just to see Artie Lange before he blew out his nose doing whatever he did to collapse his septum. Poor Artie. He hasn't posted any updates on social media since August 2023.

Dylan is a point guard who can get to the basket (and finish) at will. He's Allen Iverson. He will easily be a Top 3 pick in this draft, with a good chance of being the #1 pick.
Allen Iverson is an interesting comparison.

Dylan is a lot taller, like 5 or 6 inches taller.

Allen was much quicker. I watched him play in person when he was on Sixers and I've never seen a ball player with Allen's quickness.

Allen averaged 27 points in his NBA career and averaged 30+ in 5 seasons. I don't see Dylan matching that.

Will be interesting to see if Dylan can slice defenses to pieces in NBA as he does in college.

Forgot he was in that. I remember when he sold his place down near me, like 7/8 years ago. Probably within 10 houses of my brothers. He sold that at the wrong time, probably worth at least double what it was then.

No - the best thing that can happen is we get in the BIG tournament and pull it all together to claim the autobid.

Well sure, but even if that happens Ace and Dylan are moving on. There should not be a single person in this fan base that expects to see them anywhere near the RAC next season. You will be watching them on TV.

My point was that the best those two can do for RU beyond this season is represent RU well in the NBA and have long term careers where younger kids know they were RU guys. A 10 year old kid isn't going to remember them making/missing the tournament. They're going to just know "Ace and Dylan went to Rutgers."

That's the future of RU with these two.

Of course not. I’m just pointing out that until it’s impossible to make the tournament, that should be the goal and presumed best possible outcome however much a long shot.

That's an NBA collective bargaining issue.

Not dragging him down. Just pointing out his support cast is so much better and therefore his assist totals go up . He is playing really well now. He also made 2 crucial turnovers at the end of the Kentucky game. He is not infallible. We see ACE every play and he is placed under our microscope. We do not watch Cooper to the same extent. But from what I have seen lately , Duke is playing thru him as he is handling the ball a lot instead of the guards and he has raised his level of play considerably the last 7-8 games against ACC competition.

I'm aware. The current CBA doesn't expire until 2029.

It got close last time.

The problem is deciding what year to have the "double draft" (college freshman and HS seniors).

So many teams have traded so many future picks already.
Nobody really wants to lock down a year because then those picks instantly become overly valuable - but a lot of teams may not even have their own picks already.

Only hope we have is this….

We go on one of the hottest streaks in the country similar to Kemba Walkers team to win their conference tourney and NCAA

We throw up statues of both these guys in front of the RAC and as they get drafted in the top 5 next yea. Then we see them he seriously donate back to RU to help us cement the basketball program for the future.

I knew this thread had a lot of potential to be a bad one based off the title, but OP blew it out of the water.

OP - you still have time to let us know you were kidding with this thread.

Sort of… more of a “what if”. You did read the part that I said it won’t happen right?
