Sam Lebbie on what he learned at Rutgers last weekend:

“I really didn’t know how structured it was. I hear about all these schools and how it’s really easier than high school. At Rutgers, Coach Schiano made it very clear that your time is structured. You’ve got practices in the morning then you go straight to class, you have to be at a place at a certain time. He makes you disciplined and that’s what I’m looking for, a structured environment that doesn’t let you run around all loose and let you do what you want. I need structure and that’s what they got there.”

Brandon Jones on knowing the game:

“Gary Brackett came in to talk to us the other day and said it’s a thinking man’s game. All of that other stuff is great, but when it comes down to it, you have to be able to think on the fly and know what to do. I think knowing the defense better than I ever have is definitely helping.”

Caleb Ruch on the O-line:

“It’s been a real good spring for the offensive line compared to last spring how we were playing and stuff. We looked a lot better, we feel like we're playing a lot better so it’s been a good spring so far.”

Antwan Lowery on his physical transformation:

“When I was back home, my little cousins found some pictures of me during my freshman year. They cropped them to what I am now and it’s been a complete 180. I look back and I laugh at it and just thank the strength and conditioning program here at Rutgers for transforming me and making me into a good player.”

Carlton Agudosi on his Thursday visit to Rutgers:

“That was my first visit up there this spring, they’re looking good. They’re looking real nice.”

Recruiting tidbits

RU in DePietro’s top 3

Lancaster Catholic (PA) offensive tackle Adam DePietro is not looking to let his recruitment drag out too long and offered his take on where RU currently stands.

“I would say they are top three. I haven’t seen a few places yet, so i haven’t narrowed it past that."

DePietro was hoping to get up to Rutgers' Saturday practice but there has been a change in plans.

“I can’t make it Saturday, but I will actually be there Monday,” he said. “I’m going Monday because I’m off school and its all that I could work out.”

RU offerees

Ryan Brodie (Long Branch)

A member of the Alabama coaching staff is expected to drop by Long Branch High School next week and there is a realistic chance Brodie will receive an offer from the SEC powerhouse.

Steve Longa (Saddle Brook)

The talented linebacker has quickly corralled five offers with two coming in the last few days. Rutgers offered on Tuesday and Maryland followed up with an offer yesterday. The process has picked up its pace extremely quick for Longa, who lived in Cameroon up until a few years ago.

“It's crazy for me because I didn't know I was going to get any offers this year,” said Longa.

Thursday visitors

Mike Strizak (Don Bosco)

The linebacker was one of four Bosco juniors on hand at Thursday’s practice. Bosco will continue to be a busy place now that college coaches are permitted to visit high schools during the spring evaluation period. But Strizak and company seem to be handling all the attention rather well.

“Just because Bosco seems to be a breeding ground for recruiting, we kind of know how to act and the coaches definitely keep us levelheaded with working hard and showing us that what we do in the weight room and on the field translates into the attention,” said Strizak. “Just knowing that you have competition that will be better than you out there keeps it all levelheaded.”

Nate Ortiz
(St. Anthony’s)

The tight end pulled in his first offer last week from Temple and was in Piscataway to check out Thursday’s practice.

“It was good, I like the momentum that they have going on there,” said Ortiz. “I like how practice was run. It’s a pretty good program they have up there.”

Ortiz also hung around after practice and had the chance to speak with a member of the RU staff.

“I talked to coach Flood for a few minutes and he said he’s going to come see me in the spring. They want to see two full games of my tape so my coach is going to send that out.”

Kalief Joyner (Christ the King, NY)

The big tight end watched from the sidelines on Thursday and is looking to make a return visit to Rutgers in a little more than a week.

“The visit went good,“ said Joyner. “I enjoyed watching the practice, it was organized and intense especially during the end. After, I went to the Hale Center and had lunch with Coach Flood and a couple of other coaches. Hopefully, the spring game is just as intense.”

Thursday No-Show

Five-star defensive end Noah Spence of Bishop McDevitt (PA) was scheduled to visit Rutgers on Thursday but was a last minute cancellation. As of now, Spence said he is ‘not sure’ if he is going to reschedule a visit to Rutgers.

Tuesday visitor

Eric Patton (FB/LB) of St. Elizabeth’s in Newark, DE checked out Tuesday’s practice in Piscataway and shared his thoughts on how things went.

“It was interesting, I'm still keeping my options open though.”

Patton also said he is hearing from ‘Boston College, Texas Tech, Penn, Michigan State, Virginia, Temple and some others.’

Saturday Visitor

Darius Merriweather (Eastern)

The rising junior wide receiver has accepted a personal invitation from RU assistant coach Phil Galiano to come up and check out Saturday’s practice. Merriweather has also been receiving increased interest from Temple and Delaware.

Commit scoops

Marquise Wright (Paramus Catholic)

Wright took in Thursday’s practice at Rutgers and spent the better part of the morning spying the defensive line. He admitted that he learned a few things about the D-line while in Piscataway.

“They are a lot faster than what I expected. I see the power and strength that I need to play at that level. It was pretty much an eye-opener. Now, I know what I have to do and I’m going to do it.”

Quentin Gause (Bishop Kearney, NY)

Gause is vacationing in Orlando this week but back in Rochester he is also known by a few nicknames. Those other nicknames are BAM-BAM, Iron-Man and Q-Dogg.
