Walk on Watch
Things seem to have come to between RU and Linden's Jaurice Jones, who was once a strong consideration for a scholarship and has recently been strongly considered walking on at RU.
"Nothing new with them," Jones said of Rutgers. "I just picked up another offer at Wagner University and just been talking with other schools."
Cashman Watch
NJVarsity's 17th ranked junior, Haddonfield OT Jim Cashman, ?picked up two offers yesterday from Northwestern and Purdue, boosting his total to 21.
Longa watch
Saddle Brook linebacker Steve Longa has made the most of hitting the camp/combine circuit and has another stop left in early July when he will represent a group of NJ all-stars in a 7-on-7 tournament down in Dallas on the weekend of July 4th.
"I'm very excited to go down there," said Longa. "To play with the best from New Jersey and represent the state is something I am very proud to do."
Rutgers appears to be in very good standing with Longa as of now.
Sophomore watch
Buddy Brown of Williamstown recently pulled in a RU offer, his second,?and is hearing quite a bit from other schools around the country as he looks to be one of the top recruits in the class of 2013.
"Wisconsin just came into today," Bell said this week. "They said they are real interested. And I've been hearing alot lately from UConn,Miami, Penn State, Boston College, Florida, and South Carolina. I think UConn, PSU, and BC could offer within the next couple of weeks. All them really said the same thing. But they said they really like my film and think I'm the right type of kid to fit in their program."
Brown is being recruited mostly as an outside linebacker but said some schools could also see him playing safety.
Another Sophomore
St. Peter's Prep sophomore cornerback Tre Bell is emerging as another top prospect in the class of 2013. Bell will camp at Rutgers and just receieved a similar invite to camp at Miami.
Another TE on the horizon
In the ongoing search for tight end talent, Rutgers continues to recruit JP Holtz of Shaler Are High School in Pittsburgh. RU assistant coach Frank Cignetti recently dropped by Shaler Area High for a visit.
"He likes how I play and how I would fit into their offense and stuff," said Holtz. "He wants me to come up and visit."
NJ Sleeper Prospect in state who may camp at RU
Malachi Moore (Pope John 6-6, 240)
Wisconsin, UConn, Boston College, University of Miami, Rutgers, Delaware has shown interest and all but Miami visited him during the spring evaulation period.
Errol McCarthy (DePaul)
Closing in on another offer from Akron, and confirmed that he received an invite to the upcoming RU Big Man Academy.
Out of state Sleepers
Jason Sylva (Tabor Academy, MA)
Sylva finally picked up his first offer today from Buffalo and is contemplating camping at Rutgers next month.
"I'm feeling relieved, but still hungry for more," said Sylva.
Sylva was the overall MVP at the NUC/Rivals.com Five-Star Showcase this past March after putting on a stellar showing.
