Starting tomorrow, Rutgers hosts 8 other teams in the first college team event at the Rutgers Golf Course since 2017. In that event RU finished 3rd.
The field consists of teams from the Northeast. At #89 Rutgers is the highest ranked team in the field, followed by #90 Georgetown, #120 Dartmouth, and #121 Sacred Heart. Also competing are Seton Hall, St Johns, Monmouth, Lehigh, and Albany, all of which are ranked 200th+. This is an event Rutgers should hope (expect?) to win playing on their home course.
Pairings were up on Golfstat earlier but were taked down for some reason. Before they were removed, Rutgers was paired with Georgetown and Dartmouth, teeing off in the shotgun start at 830AM. According to the Hall and SJU sites this is a not often used 6 player team where usually the lowest 4 scores each round count for the team score instead of the mostly used format of 5 players, lowest 4 count. A recent example of where the 6 player format had been used was the 2023 B1G Championship. Last year that hurt RU as there were only 5 players left on the team. It would make sense that the regular 5 of Leigha Devine, Rikke Nordvik, Cathi Graf, and Lucrezia and Lorena Rossettin will be entered along with either Krystal Li or Emily Jones with the other playing as an individual.
Rutgers will tee of on holes 1-5. A 2nd round will follow with the 18 hole final Sunday.
Devine, who was selected as B1G Golfer of the week after her 2nd Place finish out in Fresno last week, has moved into the Top 300 women college golfers.
