Rutgers started off hot, at one point as Tango pointed out, being the only team under par. They fell back a bit shooting a team +3, which tied for 2nd best final round in the tourney. Noah Kumar who was T3 coming in, shot a 2 Over 72 to finish -2 and T4 with #47 ranked Max Moldovan from OSU in the individual championship. Tim Tillmanns from KSU won going away with a 3 round score of 12 Under, 198.

Xavier Marcoux led RU with a -1, 69. Rhett Sellers was Even Par, Weston Jones and Noah Kumar +2, and Luke Wells +3. Playing as Individuals Brendan Hansen and James Newton shot +5, 75s

This another good outing for the team as they moved up 1 spot to 6th overall, ahead of 2 current Golfstat top 50 teams in #42 Notre Dame and #50 Michigan State. 6th place should give them a bump in the rankings. Overall they finished ahead of 4 of 5 B1G teams entered.

Final Top 6

1. #25 Kansas State........-1 (their 4th win in the 2022-23 season, tied for 2nd behind 5 time winner, #1 ranked Vanderbuilt)
T2. #37 Ohio State..........+6
T2. #30 Cincinnatti........ +6
4. #43 UNCG....................+8
5. Kansas..........................+10
6. RUTGERS......................+11

Since the B1G Tourney is in South Jersey this year, does that mean RU is technically the host school?

I would think the B1G is the host of the championship. Rutgers was the host of the Johnny - O.

I have to admit I have no idea what being the host entails if anything at all other than the NCAA requires one.

Kumar has been a really good addition after transferring from a D2 school in Florida. He's been the most consistent player since the season resumed after the break. While they're not in a position to challenge the likes of #4/7 Illinois, Northwestern, or Purdue, they've shown they can best OSU (1-1), PSU (2-1), Mich St (1-1), Iowa (1-0), Indiana (1-0), and Minnesota (2-1) on a given week the past 3 tourneys.

After 2 strong finishes in Colleton River and Johnny - O, Rutgers has moved up to #75 in the latest Sagarin Rankings. Golfstat hasn't been updated. This is a 20+ position improvement since the restart of the season about 6 weeks ago. In that time they've moved from 13th to 8th in the B1G. While the team has a massive amount of work left to do if it has NCAA hopes, it does cement them as the #1 program in the Northeast. Helping Rutgers is their SOS is #49 out 305.

Illinois who has long been the gold standard of the B1G, winning every Conference Championship but one since 2008 or 2009, is in their usual position at #8, followed by Northwestern #30 and Ohio State has moved to 3rd at #33.

#75 nationally is very solid. Still a ways to go before thinking they can get into the NCAA Tourney though. Probably need to get into the 50s at bare minimum to think legit postseason.

There's always an outlier to point to. MSU made it a couple years ago with a ranking in the 60's by both Sagarin and Golfstat but in general you want to be in the low 50's to have a chance. Of course it also depends on big upsets in major conferences take an extra spot. Players can make the NCAA's as an individual as Chris Gotterup did at RU but it's very difficult to get a spot and even more so advancing.

Wonder if Kumar can end up making it as an individual.

He's been hot lately but no Rutgers player is currently ranked better than 350. Remember the season includes the Fall events. Even Marcoux who won a tourney in the Fall isn't anywhere near where you need to be. Around 45 individuals from teams that don't qualify get invites.

Consistent season long good play is the #1 requirement and that's been lacking.
