For the 3rd year in a row the Men's team competes at the Colleton River Club's 7,042 yard Par 72 Nicklaus Course. Last year RU finished 4th with a team -25, 1 stroke behind Michigan St. Their 3rd round 11 Under was the best of the day. RU's Rhett Sellers finished T6 with a -9 for the 3 Rounds.

Including 2022 and 2023 Colleton champion, Georgia Southern, 11 teams return to play in the 14 team field. At #87 RU is the 8th ranked team in the field. Missouri enters the event as the highest ranked at #34. They are followed by #36 Tenn-Chattanooga, #46 Indiana, #56 Middle Tenn, and #61 Kansas State. Other B1G teams participating are #86 Minnesota, #98 host Michigan State, and #125 Penn St.

Rutgers has made a slight lineup change. Frosh Derek Gutierrez has replaced Maritn Leon in the 4 spot. The rest of the team remains the same. Xavier Marcoux, who enters with 3 Top 10's in a row, is followed by Luke Wells, Rhett Sellers, and Weston Jones. Fr Andrew Reyes is participating as a individual.

Tomorrow's 36 hole shotgun start groups RU with MSU, Minny, and Memphis. The 18 hole final is Tuesday.

If he doesn't get his Driving fixed, he's not going to be on tour for long. During the 3rd round he was only hitting the fairway 30% of the time in the event. And he's not missing by a few feet. He's often missing by a lot. I did notice he dialed it back a lot today and played better.

I agree. He doesn't need to hit 300+ yards on every drive. Actually he would have made the cut last week if he didn't withdraw.

Yes let’s hope he gets the driver fixed not sure who his swing coach is now

Due to the weather delay there's still 20+ players finishing this morning. He's currently T35 at 8 Under.

Some stats from the week and place for the 68 who made the weekend.....

Shots gained off the tee....-2.53 (60th)

Shots gained approaching the green....7.04 (2nd)

Driving accuracy.....39.3% (68th)

Driving distance.....312yds (5th)

Bay Hill is this week. He's not entered but is entered in the Puerto Rico Open (a 2nd Tour event with a much smaller purse). He finished 7th in the event 2 years ago as an Am.

Play has been suspended in the 2nd Round due to darkness. Teams have anywhere up to 7 holes remaining.

After the first round Rutgers stood 10th of 14 at -1. Rutgers was led by Weston Jones shooting a 2 Under 70. Xavier Marcoux and Rhett Sellers shot Even Par 72's. Luke Wells shot 73 and Derek Guttierrez 74. As an Individual, Andrew Reyes shot a 1 Under 71.

Georgia Southern, going for their 3 Colleton title in a row, led by 6 strokes with a team -16, followed by Missouri with a -10, Mich State -9, Minnesota -8, and Tenn Chattanooga -5. Rutgers is having a better 2nd Round (-5) so far but has been unable to move up.

This tournament should be titled "The more things change, the more they remain the same". Similarities between 2023 and 2024 abound.

First off, #111 Georgia Southern, the #108 ranked team and 12th ranked in the field of 14, led from start to finish, winning by 2 strokes over a charging Tenn-Chattanooga. In doing so they must wish they could play every tourney here as they won their 3rd Colleton River Collegiate in a row.

Secondly and more important, just like last year, Rutgers put on a 3rd round charge. The team shot the best round not only of the three but the also the best 3rd round in the field. Their team 272 (-16) was the best by 3 strokes and tied the aforementioned Ga Southern for the best team round in the tourney. Last year, a final round 9 Under enabled the team to climb from 10th to 4th. This year they once again found themselves in 10th after finishing the 2nd round early this morning . Their 16 Under enabled them to pass 7 teams and finish 3rd.

This was a total team effort as every player contributed to at least 1 18 hole score. Today, Weston Jones was the leader with a clutch 6 under 66 which tied him for the 4th best round of the tourney. He was followed by Luke Wells 4 under 68. Xavier Marcoux and Rhett Sellers shot 3 Under 69s. Jones and Marcoux finished T13 with 7 Under totals. Marcoux missed his 4th Top 10 in a row by 1 stroke. Sellers finished T19 with a 6 Under. Wells was T36 with a -1. Fr Derek Guttierrez finished T50 at +2. Fr Andrew Reyes, playing as an individual, finished T26 with a 3 day total of -4.

Only 1 team, Tenn-Chattanooga, had a better combined 2nd and 3rd round than RU.

I'd have to check previous years but this is definitely RU's best finish in '23-24.

The Team Rankings come out tomorrow. RU should move up, possibly ahead of Minnesota as they were very close coming in.

Final Top 5

1, #108 Georgia Southern......-32
2. #36 Tenn-Chattanooga......-30
3. #87 RUTGERS.......................-23
4, #61 Kansas State.................-22
T5. #98 Michigan State...........-19
T5. #86 Minnesota...................-19
T5. #34 Missouri.......................-19

#46 Indiana finished -14 and 9th. #125 Penn State was Even Par and 14th.

Rutgers next event will be as host team of the Johnny-O at Sea Island, Ga next Mon-Tue. After that they travel to Mizzou the 2nd year in a row for their tourney in April and then finish at the B1G Championship at the end of the month.

Ok, so according to Rutgers the 16 Under 272 is the lowest 18 hole score vs Par in program history. The 3rd place finish is the best since the Chris Gotterup led team finished 2nd at the Oct 2019 Grandover Championship.

Amazing how good these players are nowadays versus back in the day when I was at Rutgers the program had some very good golfers then but like every sports program then the golf coach wasn’t even close to being a golf coach he was worse than my high school golf coach
