I was one who felt we needed Flood to come back from his suspension, off the arrests and Caroo episode to lead this team through the end of the season and judge his ability to continue leading this program based on his decisions on the field and most importantly the wins and losses. Once the ass whippings started with the OSU game and his decisions to stick with his decisions on the qb position and not deviate from his plan and not try something new I realized this guy thinks he's smarter than he actually is. As a double alum and close follower of the program when I read the following quotes from today's nj.com article I realize Flood is insulting the fanbase's intelligence:
Despite the struggles, Rutgers coach Kyle Flood has stuck with Laviano as the starting quarterback over backup Hayden Rettig. Flood said after the Michigan game that he's seen improvement by Laviano during the rough three-game stretch.
"He's been tested by three of the best defenses in the country and his ability to operate the offense and get us into the right plays, he's doing a good job with that," Flood said. "Can he throw the ball better than he has the past couple of games? Absolutely. Absolutely. Is that easy to do when the pocket's not clean? No, it's not. I don't know if that would be any different no matter who the quarterback is. But Chris is our starting quarterback going forward and I think the experience of the last three weeks is going to serve him very well."
"I don't think we did a very good job protecting the quarterback today," Flood said. "Offensive football is an 11-man game, there's no question. I left Chris in a little bit longer tonight because I think there was a lot to be gained by playing against this defense. You can't simulate what they do on defense in practice, so when you play it in a game, you have the chance to gain the experience of playing against it, that's going to make both of those quarterbacks better as we go forward."
Flood needs to go fast.
