Fran McCaffery

Don't know much about the guy other than the fact that he's been the Iowa coach for awhile, but how he didn't get T'd up screaming in the refs face like that and going off like that at the half...

great move by Fran because it was a tighter called 2nd half on both sides

So we can compliment Fran for changing the way the refs called the game, but cannot criticize the refs for not calling the game consistently?

If they call the game consistently, we win. Simple as that. Once the took our physicality out of it, we couldn't keep up.

This!

Refs completely changed the game the way they called the 2nd half. And there were a ton of non calls on Iowa.

no at that point, RU had to adjust to how the game was being called. they didnt handle well at first but they did eventually adjust and handle it the last 10 minutes.

As soon as he got the T you knew weak lame fouls were coming all second half. Its embarrassingly predictable. The refs need to grow some balls and call the game the way they are going to call it. It happens everyyyyy time a coach gets a T.

Yep. I actually thought about this right after I started the thread. Had a feeling it wouldn’t end well.

the first half was called perfectly, letting everything go..yet RU had 4 fouls and we still had fans bitching we were getting job. 2nd half totally different and yes not to our advantage which is for a loose game. Again have to adjust, no one feels sorry for you in the Big 10

Refs can call a loose game. Refs can call a tight game. They need to be consistent though. Calling one half one way and the other half another way is terrible reffing though. Even you can admit that I would hope.

My point is different though. The refs should not completely change the way they are calling a game bc of a coach throwing a temper tantrum. It happens every time. It makes the refs seem cowardly and easily manipulated and results in them being worse at their job. It's really something that should be addressed. It's too obvious to ignore

He was at Siena for five seasons. Took them to three consecutive NCAA Tournaments then was hired by Iowa. Since the 2012-13 season his Iowa teams have failed to win at least 9 conference games only once.

I can't stand him.

agree...they need to be consistent, I cannot argue with that..yes

and yes I agree on the 2nd part yet that happens and some coaches know they can push the buttons and get away with it. Fran is one of those, Pike needs to get a little more vocal IMO

I was trying to remember last night and thought it was Iona instead of Siena but thanks for reminding me. Iona to Iowa has a funny ring to it.

Anyway, Herman Munster is not very likable indeed, and then add in Lurch (great player but gets too friendly a whistle esp. at HCA) and they've got the makings of the Addams Family, Iowa City style.

I mainly can't stand him because he had a goon named Adam Woodbury who was poking guys in the eye and Fran stood up for the kid. I get coaches backing their players, but when one of your player is basically trying to hurt guys in a way that could blind them in one eye. I guess since the kid was from Iowa McCaffery felt he had to stick up for him so he could keep the Sioux City player pipeline open but yeesh.
