Freeman's Status

He's not gone. Why does everyone want our better players to leave?

Freeman's no more likely to transfer than any other player in the country. It's widspread on good and bad programs

There's nothing really to worry about because with or without Freeman Rutgers is a total rebuilding job.

And Bac's made this point but he is a junior college player so we get two years and that's it. It'll take much longer than two yeas to turn this program around now.

My sense is that Eddie wants things done the right way: go to classes, keep your grades up, come ready to play and on time, etc. And I believe his suspension of Freeman and even how he handled Etou were aimed at teaching this. My take, however, is that the process in place to assist and remind players of their duties from the time they sign to the time they leave may not be getting it done. Coaches whose players stay in line are generally all over these issues at all times. Schiano had his players in early morning meetings with agendas to be completed as ongoing monitoring. He instructed players to sit at the front of the class and he was aware right away when they missed classes. Given the busy schedule of a college athlete, sheer numbers mean that some kids aren't going to be good at managing themselves or their time. This is probably more so for kids that were forced to go the Juco route. Given what else I've seen from Eddie, I'd be surprised if this type of process is in place or at least that it's being run effectively.

In short, I think his ideals are in the right place, and the suspension is properly intended. But I'm concerned that this is yet another sign that his process does not have this under control.

When things go bad, the leaks open in every direction.

It is all part of being the leader of a complex organization. In the NBA Jordan always had a general manager..his job was to solely coach.

i don't know why people try to even consider anything done in the NBA as a guess to success as a college game. Different game and a totally different job.

Jack Welch (former CEO of GE) probably has a better chance of succeeding as a NCAA basketball coach than Eddie Jordan.

Jeezus. Primal scream! Does the terrible news ever end? Is this one of the most snake bit programs ever? Does the 2015-15 season have a black cloud hovering over it? It is SO discouraging being an RU MBB fan. Freeman is the real deal and a key piece for next year. He could fade away easily enough. Being an upper classman Juco transfer is no guarantee that he stays, and/or his suspension could be indefinite.

I think you all need to chill. I'm not usually a Pollyanna but I feel next years squad, if healthy and no major transfers, will be much improved. If not EJ must go.

I actually agree IF everyone is back and healthy. I think this team can be middle of the pack next year:

G - Sanders, Williams and Johnson
SF - Laurent and Thiam
PF - Freeman
C - Doorson and Diallo

And whatever Goode, Tripp and Dailey can provide off the bench.

That's not a horrible team right there. Big question marks at C, but competitive at all other positions. I'm not saying NCAA or even NIT, but that's a competitive team if it stays together.

Don't forget D.J. Foreman, who I think is a really great C but just needs to get lucky with a few of those easy layups!

Have you seen Johnson , and Thiam play and do you really think Williams is a Big 10 player ?

I like William's effort but he can't shoot and it's hard to be an effective Guard if you can't shoot.

Agree on C------big question mark.

exactly RU will not be going to the NCAA tourney during Freeman's two years anyhow. He is important to Jordan because you have to win games. In the end Jordan should already have a replacement in mind for Freeman and be recruiting him for when Freeman is gone and its going to have be a big time recruit

disagree...our center position is very weak, weakest in the Big 10. We have a lot of undersized guards and our bench isn't all that talented and proven. RU doesn't exist in a bubble. Compared to the rest of the league, it has the least talented and has a coach that hasn't shown it can get talent to overachieve. Sure the team will be better than this year. Sure they may be more competitive and lose by 12-15 not 30. Is that truly the progress that makes a difference in this league .Middle of the pack means a Nebraska/Ohio State team....RU lost by about a combined 90 points in the 3 games against those teams. Are we really making that up with the addition of 2 unproven centers and a transfer

The strategy Eddie employs will not get the team to the middle of the pack. They will likely win a few more games based on depth and the other team being off but teams will still light RU up from the outside as RU packs in the middle.

Williams is the last thing to complain about at this point. You clearly stopped watching in December. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I certainly do not want him to leave but all the red flags are there. He seemed to get a mysterious injury that no one was commenting on, he often wasn't even on the bench, and now he received a suspension.

He has already experienced how bad the team is. He hasn't struck me a a player who has been chomping at the bit to get back.

Yeah because why risk a career-ending injury when he can just redshirt.

This is a dumb post.

True true. Ever since he came back from vacation during the holidays (or whatever it was) I see him on the bench and he's the first one to get up and give a guy props after making a good play. And he wears the brightest Rutgers all scarlet warm-ups :)

Many of you are way off base. Deshawn was not on the bench for a few games but most he has been. He was injured and was home a little longer with permission. He just needs to take care of his academics and all will be fine.

What could go wrong?
