Rutgers scored a second commitment today as Georgia linebacker Jayden McDonald of North Gwinnett High School as he offered up his verbal pledge to the RU coaches today. He spoke with Scarlet Nation and explained why Rutgers was his choice.

“Rutgers was my first offer it meant a lot to me they were the first to believe in my abilities before anyone else. I've been up there twice and both times it was a home feeling and also I will get a high quality education as well.”

The coaching staff has also maintained close contact with McDonald throughout the process.

“I talk with Coach Niemann the most. He tells me that I have opportunity to come in and make a difference early. Also he said that in all 4 years that I'm there, that I will also get a quality education. I talk with coach Niemann every day.

“I also speak with coach ash just about every day too. He most just checks up on me to see how I'm doing. Overall he's a great man and a great coach who has the program on the rise.”

Another visit will also be coming up for McDonald.

“I've been to Rutgers twice so far and I liked the campus a lot. I've also liked the football facilities and also how everything was put together so well. I'm aiming to head back up sometime in July.”

Sounds like a smart, mature kid with a good head on his shoulders.

I'm not gassing anybody up nor am I a Rutgers fan. I was simply brought hear out of curiosity because one of your prospects turned down a Bama offer. So what if its to grey shirt or walk on, its still Bama. Anyway I know southern prospects and this kid show off in Atlanta. Size is his only issue. If this kid was 6'3 he would be a can't miss 5 star LB but he's like 5'10 or maybe 5'11. We got RB's that are 6'2 225 as freshmen on most teams down here. Concerns about his size playing in the SEC are legit, but the Ten, his speed and athleticism will translate well. Good pick up and once again, your coach is bringing some borderline SEC flavor to NJ.

He doesn't look that short. His rivals page has a video of him covering a 6'6 tight end John Fitzpatrick and he looks maybe 4 inches shorter. I guess it's hard to tell by the video. All the tight ends he was covering don't look like they're towering over him. It also seems like he has a huge wingspan.

Watched his Junior HUDL tape. I know it's highlights. So impressed with his pursuit and speed to the football. Lightening quick and he's making plays across and down the field on carriers that he just shouldn't get to from where he's lining up. When he gets there, he's flinging kids around.

I really like this kid from the little that I've seen on tape. I'm hoping our coaches are camping out at his doorstep the next 7+ months to fend off any southern schools from coming his way.

Keep the great news coming. Welcome to the Banks Jayden!

He measured 6'0 at The Opening so he may have grew a bit in the last year.

Hopefully he doesn't get poached by an SEC team after a big senior year or a growth spurt :flushed:

From his interview with Richard some of his comments leads me to believe loyalty is a very important trait to him. We've been recruiting him for some time now and he recognizes this. He should be back up to campus in July and he feels comfortable here with good academic opportunities so no reason to believe he'll be poached.

I look at this kids film and I look at lacewell film, and I look at our lb situation knowing full well we may take 2, 3 LB max this class after adding 4 stellar prospects last year to the position.....and then I look at the LB's BC landed and I can honestly say "who gives a f**k..we made out like bandits"
