Been hit with a nasty flu Boy its not a joke but I will spit out some points here off the top of my head

Main takeway is that last night put to bed any of the notions that oh if they just were not hurt they would have x more amount of wins...no, this team is exactly what it is and not meant to be. Try not to get sucked in too much by the wins...there likely will be one coming in the future.

Team loves the underdog role more than being favorites. Team disrespected their opponents. They assumed at full strength they would win. Got up by 11 and then thought that would just continue in the 2nd half without working for anything.

To have to hear TV announcers and TV analysts talk about RU being non chalant in warmups is damning..pay attention.

Dix and Sanfordt....i would take 5 each of them on the my team. They were the best players on the court period...and its got to be a humbling lesson for Dylan and Ace how ordinary they looked last night

Pike says its 100% on him but I think its 100% on Ace/Dylan..you got to walk the walk if you are going to talk the talk and both pulled no shows.

The bench players were the best part of the night so kudos to Zak and J Mike and Acuff for stepping up.

Cant have a team that lacks leadership

I know I will get flak for this but many others will agree....Ace/Dylan have a years and years of money and NBA fame coming their way, this 5 month stay at Rutgers is just a pimple on their life course. They are competitors though clearly last night they were not, their goal is hardly NCAA tournament appearances, their immediate goals are making it healthy to NBA workout season.

RU could have had Fran back in 2010 if Pernetti just fired Hill at the conclusion of the season like a normal coach would do. Who knows what would have happened but Pernetti likely still to be AD here.

Pikes resume does not come to close to Frans...Fran won a Big 10 tournament.....Pikiells teams are terrible in Big 10 tourney save for his first year where they still only made the quarters.

the RAC has a top home court is over with. Last season it was perfectly on was 2020. Sure we had the Purdue win a couple years later and that season was pretty good at the RAC but all the blue hair wistfully remeniscing about the RAC from the 80s and 90s and 2000s...that is gone and it aint coming back. The incessent use of noise and t shirt tosses has turned into an irritating spectacle. The students have to be the lamest as a group that I have ever seen. There is some ridiculous number that RU has lost like 13 of 21 rac league games..is this accurate.

damn you Pat Hobbs, he should be in jail for the extension and money he handed out

unless Pike leaves on his own, he is here two more years and maybe more but will the fanbase already have checked out.

Paragraphs 3 and 4, especially the disrespecting of an opponent. Ugh! Nice summary Bac, thanks!

Good summary of a lackluster and effortless game. This game was like an amalgamation of this teams flaws, all ready to be on full display in Game 25. They were at full strength, back to being healthy, Ace and Dylan together, no flu, no nagging injuries, no excuses. And what did they do? They completely laid down on the court, except for several role players. Instead of this team getting better as they played more games and getting to full health, this game was a display of them just packing it in as it appeared they had the self-realization that they are in fact a bad team. No fight, no pushback, no resistance when Iowa took over. The less talented, but better team, better coach and better program won that game last night. To steal a page from bac’s book, a song to summarize this team and season for me:

Woke up this morning my house was cold
Checked out the furnace she wasn't burnin'
Went out and hoped in my old Ford
Hit the engine but she ain't turnin'
We've given each other some hard lessons lately
But we ain't learnin'
We're the same sad story that's a fact
One step up and two steps back

I disagree about Ace and Dylan being the problem and that our offense ran much better last night when they were out of the game. I was at the game. I don’t remember ANY point where I felt anything but disgusted with what I saw on the offensive end. I mean in the first half we made some shots and there was an illusion that we were playing well, but with or without Ace and Dylan in the lineup our offense looked terrible and in terms of scheming it looked nonexistent. As I said in a different thread, I’ve been in pikes corner from the beginning, but it was so stark to me the difference in what we had as a half court game plan and what Iowa was running. I honestly don’t know how anyone with a little bit of basketball knowledge couldn’t see that. We had to work incredibly hard for mediocre to difficult shots. How many easy shots did Iowa have? I mean there were times, speaking of our defensive end, which is both a tribute to their offense, and a slap at our defense, that one of their players drove right down the lane and there wasn’t anybody within 3 feet of them. If you wanna pick out a guy who wasbreally bad on defense last night, I’d have to go with Dylan Grant. Every time his man drove to the basket he was riding behind him, forcing whoever our center was to come over to help and leaving Iowa center wide open for dunks or put backs on the shots.

I think if you brought someone to the game who has watched minimal, maybe zero, college basketball and said watch what this team does when they’re on offense and then watch what the other team does when they’re on offense and you tell me which one seems to know what they’re doing and which one seems an accident waiting to happen, it’d be easy. It was that obvious.

This thing was over months ago. I know the preseason hype made it difficult for many to come to terms with, but this roster was incredibly flawed and the coaching staff who has always had trouble early with rotations and managing egos, has an entirely different coaching task set out in front of them this year - one they had no experience with.

The pieces don’t fit. A big was never secured. And the program refuses to embrace modern day offensive strategy, which means we are playing with one hand behind our back before we even get out on the floor.

Next year the roster will encounter the same sort of turnover and leave the staff to try to solve many similar problems they couldn’t figure out this season. The trend has been down for quite a long time, ever since the covid season it’s been trend line down. This clsss had the *potential to stave off that downward trend, but any hope was thrown away before the season started.

Pike needs to take action this offseason, starting with the staff. Unfortunately, I don’t think it will matter. But a big shakeup always has to come in the act before the last one.

Damn bac you are a broke man. Princeton game broke me. I knew we were done and that Pike was basically completely fvcked as a coach.

You just don't come back from going .500 and missing the tournament with two NBA lottery picks. That's a fireable offense. I think he is gone in another year.

I don't get the RAC is dead stuff, at all. Similarly bad teams have looked similarly bad at the RAC because they're similarly bad. The most comparable RU squads in KenPom rating to this year’s team are Mike Rice’s first year (2010-2011, 78th KP) and Gary Waters’ last year (2005-06, 71 KP)

2010-11: 10-6 (2-6 in BE play) at the RAC. loss to 13-18 Seton Hall, best win vs. (28) Villanova.

2005-06: 12-5 (4-4) at the RAC. Losses to (94) Charlotte, (117) St. John’s and (79) Providence. Best win is (36) Marquette at home.

Was the RAC dead after those seasons? The atmosphere sucked last night, but that has more to do with the performance being completely uninspired than anything being irrevocably broken, in my opinion.

"Good Night..."
Yeah, it's over now, but I can breathe somehow
When it's all worn out, I'd rather go without

Iconic show. My favorite band. Amazing Layne made it through that 1996 Unplugged show. Many of the bootleg of them from early 1990s are incredible. That guy could crush Would? And Rain When I Die, among other Dirt classics, and of course, the haunting Nutshell off Jar of Flies.

Feel better my friend !

You didn’t miss anything last night!

Knew we were in for a strange night when PJ Hayes was first sub off bench and during the game he’s having a convo with fans. 😂

Knew game was lost in first few minutes of 2nd half with our lackadaisical play

Inability to defend the only 2 players who can score for Iowa - Sandfort and Dix - was difficult to watch !

Agree with you 100% that kids like them are a coaches ‘ delight !

Pertaining to current culture with BB team is damning towards Pike and Staff !

For years we waited for Pike to get a T.

Now we desperately need for him to become Mick Cronin !

I’ll try and work in “cacophony” and “cornucopia” next time. This has just been a lackluster season. Like @robjknight said, can’t bring on football season soon enough. Even if Schiano may botch a game, don’t care, much rather watch their season as football is on the rise of the roller coaster ride while basketball has flown off the rails of the ride and crashed.

And people gave me shit for saying the RAC is no longer a threat to opponents

They've lost 12 or 13 of their last 20 B1G home games at the RAC

After Princeton I said 14-15 wins. I think I will be right on track, the schedule is pretty soft the rest of the way, there are some wins in there.
Four of the last six games are on the road where Rutgers will be the underdog in at least five games.

One team put forth effort and know how to play D, making shots difficult, the other team doesn't which led to wide open lanes to the basket. Grant is bad defensively, its why we didn't see him for long stretches while everyone in the game thread was calling for him. He came in and immediately committed a bad TO too.
Ace, and especially Dylan, were problems in this game also. Look at Dylan's dribbling as to why the offense looks as it does.

The problem is that people convinced themselves the RAC was this unbeatable home court advantage in 2020 because we happened to play so well there, but it’s really a relatively normal home court advantage which isn’t enough to overcome the team not being good.

This is consistent with people overestimating the effects of basically everything; the RAC is worth 15 points, Mawot Mag is worth 15 points, Jeremiah Williams (after he started hot last season) is worth 10 points etc

I mean Rutgers the No. 16 home court advantage per KenPom and No. 12 below 4500 ft. elevation among all 360-whatever teams, so I think there's something to the RAC being a particularly strong home court.

I’m not saying it’s not above average or even great as it goes, but what is the point difference between the #16 HCA and the average? I’d be surprised if it is more than 1 point.

After Dylan rolled his ankle again, thats when i feel he seemed even more disinterested. Maybe he's thinking this season is over anyway, why risk more injury?

That was the first time I’ve ever heard TV announcers call out a team for being lazy in warmups and I watch a lot of basketball from all different conferences. Eye-raising stuff.

I feel a lot of these BIG network guys were just as excited to watch this team as we were, you can hear it in their voices when we are scheduled to play that night. The lack of effort was not something you see that often from a D1 player, they were disappointed just like the rest of us. No one likes to see that level of talent being taken for granted.

Iowa did a good job running their sets for sure. They watched the film of all the other teams who have been running layup drills on us all year

After the Nebraska game yesterday, Katz and Hummel were discussing Queen as the B1G freshman of the year and seemed to suggest the Illinois guard and Mobley ahead of Dylan and Ace too. His point was that winning matters. Hummel said he was playing devil’s advocate by mentioning Dylan and Ace’s scoring, but Katz for the first time in a long time didn’t have RU’s back. I get it…the NBA is about potential and not the college game and I think Ace is fine but I definitely see Harper sliding a little in the draft right now.
