Game 9 Fordham: Pathetic

When we play badly, we don't have anyone to pick up the slack. If we had a guy to make 4 or 5 threes in a half, it might be enough to compensate. Plus without more consistent outside shooting, we're limited in options. Even with the height advantage, it doesn't matter if the skill level isn't there. Our big guys can't perform more than one offensive move at a time and that includes dribbling.
Still no excuse for not showing up.

The pattern of play for Rutgers since joining the B1G is similar year to year with some surprising upset wins and losses but in the end still a bottom tier program. The overriding problem is there are too many complementary type players and not enough go to scorers. With the 30 second shot clock and the 3 point shot basketball has changed but Rutgers has failed to recruit players that fit the change .As a result Rutgers has no margin for error even against opponents that they are expected to defeat.

Had no answer for my guy Nick. Kid is a baller. He should be at UCF, kid is from Orlando and went to HS less than 30 minutes from the UCF campus, but they were too dumb to recruit him.

Russ, he beat us single-handedly. How do you think he would’ve fared against a three-two zone with Geo and two of Montez, Ron, and Issa up top?

He probably would have been less effective. Honor is only shooting 37.1 percent vs. zone defenses so far this season. He's shooting 42.6 percent vs. man defense and is scoring 1.00 points per possession when the possession ends with the ball in his hands against man (those stats do not include today's game).

And isn’t he 5:10. Trying to shoot over guys who are on average 6’5” And don’t have nearly the concern about being broken down off the dribble.

I'm waiting for the fire pike screams from are "loyal" fans
Yeah, how can we expect Pikiell to improve the talent in his third year to beat a program that has all the advantages in recruiting that frosh point who dominated today — unreal gym and a beautiful campus in a wonderland like the Bronx. #UNFAIR

Only positive was the play of Montez Mathis. He was assertive and played great defense on Honor in the few minutes that Pike inexplicably waited too long to do. Mathis is now without question the premier newcomer on the team

Mathis is high energy. His defense is inconsistent on a possession by possession basis. Love the energy and passion, but makes a lot of mistakes. I think he is a freshman though.

Doorson was asleep the entire game
You can say that again. Played too high in the lane and let players get past him. Had hands of stone also. Lost
a few balls that he should have had. I counted 6 pts where he lost his man on a high pick and roll. Think were
going to more of the other Shaq from here on in.

Fans are disappointed and shocked but they should be. It's unfortunate that upsets happen in sports actually...LOL

The fans starved for a winner want to cut corners. Honor is a major guard folks, but overall RU played bad against Boston University and bad today. One we got away with and today we didn't.

There's no straight line folks....we will see this post multiple times over the next 2 years, whining about bad performances. My guess is what will the notion be for the next upset win or loss. The team is 317th in minutes and experience played, yet fans want flawless 40 minutes of action and to skip steps along the way.

The team is not a finished product folks....it's NINE games into a bunch of kids sorting things out...1st and 2nd options in Geo and Eugene are learning on the fly. And Jay Young and Pike dropped the ball on Honor and a game plan...willing to give the kid credit, he played lights out.

My takeaways are 37 minutes for Geo and 3 for McConnell isn't good....25 minutes for Mathis and Harper must happen to get offense out of the rest of the roster. We almost had 5 players in double figures, Carter and Mathis each had 8...both are capable of 12 per night with more playing time.

If Harper, Mathis, McConnell and Carter can get more production, it will balance things out to help Geo and Eugene.

I'd like to see how much longer we ride with Shaq Doorson and Thiam as starters...

What the hellllll happened!? Im in Dallas and went to a couple high school football state championship games today (highland park down 21 with 10 minutes left and coming back and beating Tyler with about 9 seconds left arguably best game ive ever seen). Just saw the score WHAT. THE. HELL!?

I really like Pike, but great coaches never lose a game like today in year 3 of a program!

A loss in my books as devastating to my expectations where this team was going this year. Had 11 wins preseason but looked early on to be playing well where maybe they would pick up 4 or 5 more wins. This all went down the crapper in my books as now I won't get excited until they actually win. All that work going forward gets 2 steps back after this loss. Unacceptable to lose this type of game after 3 years.

Bigger perspectives would take the last 3 MSG games vs Minnesota, Indiana, Purdue, into this season with what was thought to be MAC contender Eastern Michigan, Miami, Michigan State and Wisconsin....mixed in with those up performances were St Johns, Boston and Fordham yesterday.

I have more signs of improvement over the last dozen games as a program than isolating a couple of clunkers.

Let's see how things go after Seton Hall next week, I do not have expectations for a win. Come out strong against Maine and Columbia and don't let the foot off the petal. This team has to come out prepared and ready to play against those 2 teams.

Seton Hall or the 2 games after that will be long forgotten once we get knee deep into late January and February. This was never a breakthrough season.

I have general concerns that if freshman and Shaq Carter aren't trending up in the next 2 months, then how can fans expect to jump to a winning season or beyond in 2019-20??

We all know this team wasn't going NIT/NCAA this year. But expectations to see improvement by years end is. I thought Geo's junior year we would see a jump to 16 wins then more beyond that.

How long does it take? good question, took Pat Chambers 7 years to win the Nit. Won 26 games last year.

I hear you, but Fordham is NOT good at all. Probably bottom of the A10.
Terrible loss, for sure. Not one that is indicative of the overall trajectory of the program, and certainly not something that doesn’t happen every year, to even more established programs/coaches.

I like the thought process and rationale expressed in your comments. The Bronx Bombers,ie,the Fordham Rams ,were a bad match up for Rutgers because the location of the school attracts 3 point shooters.Fans need a good laugh after a embarrassing loss.

Go get your eyes checked :grimace:

So we were up 10 late in 1st half and Fordham could get nothing done offensively and everyone knew Fordham was going to stay in the game and win.

People also knew that we should have started in zone in the 2nd half because Fordham was going to go unconscious from the perimeter.

Are people delusional or have psychic powers
