Game experience

Thought the game day experience yesterday was phenomenal after about 7:45.

All the elements came together beautifully, and with a mostly full house of engaged fans, it was tremendous.

For those few of us who arrived early, though, the volume on the speakers for the pregame DJ section needs to be dropped by about 10-15%. It was ear splitting in section 229, and I sat there literally with fingers in my ears to try to block even some of it out.

It didn't seem so loud immediately under the speakers at the top of the student section when I walked through, but from the upper deck it was deafening (over 90 dB for 30+ min).

Once the DJ portion ended, though, I thought the volume was great for the rest of the night.

Been to over 30 games easily and this was an excellent environment and experience. I’m older with kids and do less tailgating now so I’m noticing different experience issues like the traffic in and out is pretty miserable. One quick fix would be a pedestrian bridge over River Road. The choke point there is mainly created by volume and cops stopping traffic for pedestrians crossing (altho they meter it).

It's just a shame that something that had been more or less perfected over a period of decades has been completely turned into a shit show
The only times I remember the bus back to the RAC being smooth was after a game that either didn't have a huge turnout, or it wasn't a close game and tons of people left early. I went to most home games as a student between 2005-2008 and I almost always walked back to my dorm at Livingston instead of waiting for the bus. Before I started getting a season parking pass, my group would always park at Johnson Park or do anything else to avoid having to take the bus to the RAC after the game.

When Chris Ash implemented a no-huddle offense, there wasn't enough time between plays for the first down chant anymore. The band still plays the end of it that ends with "Go Knights!" but nobody really participates in it, probably because after years of the chant not being used, we ended up with a student section that isn't familiar with the first down chant at all.

The R-U chant did happen quite a few times last night, but it was often short-lived because when it wasn't drowned out by PA music, the students kept speeding it up and then everyone was out of sync.

Pretty sure we were doing the first down, touchdown go ru last year.

I’ve seen complaints on here about the game experience (music too loud, etc) honestly - I don’t know WTF they’re talking about

Went to tonight’s game and came away REALLY impressed with the CONSTANT effort to entertain / keep the crowd engaged

Not only was it constant but also well thought out, and well timed (eg would get tue crowd UP before a big defensive 3rd or 4th down)

Went with my nephew (goes to a bunch of NFL games) and his dad (my brother who is a real sourpuss who always badmouths RU…a RU-hating RU grad)…. Both kept talking about what a game atmosphere it was!!!!
Was great all around...

They were fine until Hobbs's boardwalk. Then everything went to hell. It's just a bad set up and they obviously don't care about those fans or they would have changed it by now. I'm sure a Rutgers engineering student could come up with a better idea then whoever was put in charge of running this. I feel bad for those people and I park in Yellow, it should not be that way.
While the boardwalk may have thrown a wrench into the RAC bus logistics, the Boardwalk is killing it from a fan perspective. I tailgate in the yellow lot and between the live music, Ferris wheel, and food trucks it provides a great game day atmosphere for families and people who don’t have tailgating options. I brought 4 people to the game last night and they weee blown away with the ‘scene’ and all the things that were going on.

Like I said I’m in yellow and love my funnel cake. But the bus reroute was poorly planned and little thought put into it

My one complaint is that Verizon cellular service is bad.
Well AT&T was not great. There's a DAS in the stadium and all the carriers are on it. So not sure why it's still not great Rutgers should install Wi-Fi and charge for it. They would makeup the cost.

Well 10 thousand or more Fans that get bused in cant get to those amenities because the busing system is broken. That means less money spent on everything that happens near the stadium and causes the casual FAN to say why should i come back if it takes 50 min to go from the RAC to the Stadium and maybe 90 to get back.

This is a huge problem that Rutgers needs to solve and would really be exacerbated if the stadium ever gets expanded.

wouldnt it make sense to build a pedestrian bridge from stadium to johnson park and have the busses load in johnson park from the RAC & College Ave (already do for college ave) ) ...they would go river road to 18 to livingston./college ave having the busses over at the bubble and then crossing were pedestrians are going thru parking areas doesnt make sense...it would also allevaite leacing from black/purple lots having a seond egress...

The quick RRRRRR-UUUUUU chant works in the RAC.
But at SHI the students need to let an RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR go to the other endzone, then wait for a UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU responce. If too quick it becomes a real mess.

How many millions do you think that would cost? Justify that expense for 7 games a year.
Of course, if you have politicians who have clout you can get a train system (West Virginia and U of Washington, for example) that could move thousands within minutes.

I don't have season tickets. I go to 2-3 home games per season. Also, in all my years of going to RU Football, the buses are usually the best run part of the whole operation. They always have tons of them and they are always supervised and set up properly. Well, all that changed last night. The first warning sign was that about 50-75% of the buses last night were yellow school buses which I've never seen them use before. I'm assuming whoever was in charge of the whole bus operation must be gone now and some idiot took over.
This may have been answered by now. I guess I'll find out as I read on in this thread, but my guess is that the regular campus bus schedule was still in effect (being a weekday and all), which meant fewer regular buses available as game shuttles. Imagine the outcry if the 2 or 3 students who might have a Friday evening class couldn't get there due to the big bad football program taking precedence yet again.

Easier fix. Dont go that way.
If you are heading to New Brunswick from Sutphen Rd., turn right on River Rd, right on Hoes Lane W., , right on Rt 18. Three right turns, you will be in New Brunswick in less time than it took you to get past the stadium going the other way.

I wonder if they brought in yellow buses because it was a Friday game? The normal buses were being used for their normal school day route. Maybe for Saturday games the normal buses are available for the shuttle to JMA?
As soon as I saw the yellow buses, this is exactly what I thought. I didn't care, as long as I got where I needed to go.

I know, I thought of that cost. We’d have to be good for a long time for them to address that infrastructure but a one lane road next to a river with major pedestrian crossing makes for an automatic choke point. I’ve been to both of those campuses and was amazed by that, especially WVU. Light rail in NJ is something like $30M per mile or something insane

Absolutely fixable, but seemingly never will be. Gives off a mickey mouse impression when done poorly as it mostly has for the past couple decades now. I bet even Schiano would be impressed to hear it done properly as it's rarely been done well even since his first stint. I think it also gets sped up way too much at the RAC as well.

Another issue is that most folks don't know how to properly vocalize the U, they seem to think that howling it is appropriate. The echo will take care of itself. It should be a hard dig into the U. which will ring across the stadium and create an echo trail. No one needs to actually say "oooooh"...it's too soft/weak and doesn't carry nearly as well.

Neither the County, that owns Johnson Park, nor the DOT will approve a pedestrian bridge over River Road. Bob Mulcahy tried, & even with his political connections got stonewalled

Bob hasn’t been AD in 15 years. Politicians change. Maybe it’s time to try again.

Ditto to what Mrs Screw said. Best energy in over 10 yrs. Kudos fans and RU
Outside of the game, best all around experience by a mile! Very impressed and glad I went. Rewatched the game and looked incredible.

As far as loudness and the crowd, in my opinion was above the RU 63-14 win over Louisville, above the win vs #2 USF … and a little behind the Louisville loss vs Teddy. That is the loudest game I remember.

How did this compare to the 2014 Michigan and PSU games?

Psu in 14 and Ville 06 were the loudest
USF 07 and Michigan 14 were close

Ville 12, Arky 13 and MSU 04 next batch

Ville blowout, Cincy night game 07 and USF night game 09 were also loud

Most deflating was Maryland 07 when they beat us in the rain

Fresno State 08 & Cincy 09 had the potential to be bonkers as the juice was high at kickoff, but the lackluster play took us right out of it

Exactly. I work for Rutgers Institutional Planning and Operations. Weekday games are always rough on transportation because they can't pull the normal number of Rutgers buses from fleet like they do for Saturday games due to classes. School buses were the only buses available and were put into service.

Fantastic gameday experience, really well done. But they really gotta cut back on the music, it's a lot when are close to the student section.

I also don't need to hear Van Halen's greatest hits in the final minute of a nailbiter game either.
They gonna have to let the band rip it all night long one of these days. That’s why they are there. I’m sure they hate listening to the PA replace them with THE BEST OF THE 80s, 90s most of the time.

In regards to the bus and traffic situation. I think some people just need to understand this was a Friday night game and the biggest crowd in how long? When you have that many people in one place you're going to get some traffic. I know it stinks but this happens with any major venue, even Metlife is rough after big games.

Keep in mind that classes happen Friday so they most likely needed buses to maintain a normal weekday schedule for students, it is a tough situation. Silver lining, crowds are good because that means people are showing up.
