Game Thread: Today RU @ Minnesota, 3pm, ESPN2

Could be that or have a hand in deciding her replacement because of being Head Coach Emeritus Stringer.

she will be on the sideline...personally from reading that article I dont think she is actually doing that much with the team anymore. I think not being all in means all the stuff that she got right about prep and planning has slipped, its doing a disservice to the players...Poor Guirantes after the game...she busts her ass...she is a superstar

C. Viv is just playing the string out... The team is mediocre at best and hasn’t progressed... time for Viv to consider traveling around the world in retirement.

Anyone: This is the first time I've watched the women live and except for the obvious, do we always play at a fast pace ? Seems like we get a rebound and just want to race upcourt and attack the basket no matter what the defense is doing. When we do make a pass with purpose, it leads to some difficult crazy shots.
Overtime was a complete joke. Shot clock violations, stupid turnovers, fouls at the wrong time, complete nonfocus by almost the entire team. This shouldn't happen with our type recruits, ever. We gave the game away.

will not make a difference...the higher the level of recruit they are, the worse she has been
I think of Cappie( a #1 recruit), KiaV, Piph, Matee, Essence,Tyler S, Betnijah & Kaliyah. All had stellar careers here on the Banks. April Sykes and her class were an exception, ...and the only group that wasn't heavily recruited by Stringer, if I remember it correctly.
When Viv has had similar talent to the best, she would come out with some victories against them(Uconn included). Watched Cappie take down Simone Augustus and LSU, Piph and Kia take down Auburn w) DeWanna Bonner and more.
Just last year we saw the team at full strength beat Maryland while playing well above expectations. That was a team that was able to go ten deep and could run the 55 all day. They had solid post play.Especially when Caitlin was still on the team. That team cracked the top 25 at a point last season.....This year's team was not expected to be better than last before the start of this season. That stands to reason with no reload in the post. Hats off to the women of this years team...theyve played tough, competitive ballin racing out to the impressive record and standing in the conference. once again, (2nd season in a row), surprising WBB with their success. We have to be real here...Jordan has not, and was not expected to be able to replace what we lost in Stasia, and unfortunately, Maori is going to take longer than we hoped. She and Tyia S combined are not able to give us what Victoria Harris brought last year. I have all faith that they will get there in time. Thank goodness for Tekia and Arella and there boarding skills along with Mael (on the boards). and KK is a good rebounding guard.
Bottom line: The team is overachieving and was expected to struggle for a tournament spot, with no real expectations if they got one. Get off Viv's back.

She has not shown an ability to develop talent as most of the team has regressed. Let’s see what she does with this great class entering next year?
Who has regressed? Arella, T-baby, Wallace, KK, Giles and Zippy all are doing better statistically this year than in their past seasons. I am leaving out Noga as she hasn't played enough games to really determine her progress or lack thereof. The rest of the players are all new (either freshman, transfers or redshirts). Some players may not have developed as much as you would have liked, but they really haven't gotten worse.

Davenport has not been good.
Her conditioning is not where it needs to be. In the Illinois game where she played a bit more, you could really see it. She was almost begging to come out of the game at one point. She also needs to become more aware of where she is supposed to be on the floor, especially on D. Both of these problems are fixable, although the conditioning takes time (and effort).

What gives anyone any hope of a resurgence!! Not with this coach or coaching staff
He said 2021 because her contract is up on June 20, 2021. No way is she going anywhere till then, you can't eat a $925k fully guaranteed salary in her last year. She'll get one more year and at that point she'll be 73 yrs. old, it's time for her to walk away and enjoy retirement.

Was Davenport ranked 6 and the top post player in the country? Wasnt Zippy like top 25 player?
Check out Boston at South Carolina. She clearly was the number one post in the country. You can see the difference right away that she is polished and came in ready to play anywhere. Remember, Maori was invited but not selected for that US Developmental team. She just needs time to grow into and strengthen her frame. Hopefully, that will help with her foot speed and coordination. Let's hope Zippy can make strides over this second half of the season. The last two games, I've noticed flashes of her being more aggressive, looking to drive in the half court. I'm sure that she and KK sense the need to give Arella more help with scoring.

The woman is a HOF coach and no one can ever take that away. But she has not evolved with the women’s game. Good/great defense and average/below average offense does not cut it any longer. There are too many really good offensive players in the women’s game now. It’s not 20 years ago. If you want to be in the top 25 or aspire to a NC you need an offensive game plan and score points. Or we can just stick our heads in the sand and be happy if we make tournament.
I can agree that Viv has never been known as an offensive guru. also agree that there are a ton of good offensive players. You do need to put the ball in the basket to win games. Our problem has been that we haven't gotten our share of those good offensive players in comparison to the programs that have passed us over the course of the last ten years. To win a national chip, you need players(ballers). We've been out-recruited by these programs the last 5 or 6 years. Look at Mich, MichSt, OhioSt, Maryl, and more recently, Northwestern. Check ESPNw Hoopgirls100. We get one, these schools get 3 or 4 per year. We've been fortunate to get Arella (who was the 100th ranked) and Alexis via transfer. These other schools are getting them as freshman and having them for 4 years. This is why they have more quality depth. Their rosters are made up of more top 100s. Our posts are especially often outmatched . Look at Mich with Naz Hillman(baller) and this 6-5 Verazao girl that they can pull off the end of the bench if someones in foul trouble. She may be better than any of our posts. She's the niece of pro player, Anderson Verazao, who played w) LeBron. She played for her national team. High BB IQ. We haven't had enough of those level players over the past 5 or 6 years. One or two, here and there has not been enough to get us over the hump against the Marylands, Iowas, Louisvilles, UConns. I always felt sorry for a Tyler Scaife who needed more help, Betnijah and Khahleah , and now Arella needing more support to successfully take on those other loaded rosters. Maryland is STACKED
Let's be patient and see what develops with next years class. Our first year that compares with our top competitors in the Big10. Viv always said the facilities were the problem. New facilities.....great recruits right away. If we stack a few classes like that, as the others have done, Viv will be right there for a National Chip. Players win Chips moreso than coaches. Geno and Muffet won them with loaded rosters full of ballers. Players who came in ready, not requiring a lot of development but simply refining. This is a year they both have many on their rosters that need development. Will either be a favorite for NC this year? ?
