Gary Waters, Cleveland State at NJIT tonight

haha...I will agree with you on that...this boards whims change with the wind to fit the narrative they want to make of the situation.

Worst mistake ever firing Waters. My 20 year interest and support of RU basketball began creeping to a halt after Waters was let go and came to a crashing halt after the Mike Rice fiasco. EJ's hiring has brought me back a little, but but it's a tough go.

Waters brought RU basketball back to a baseline of respectability that had been missing since the Wentzel years (and before that the Tom Young era) that we haven't seen since.

Waters 1st 3 years at RU DEFENSIVELY
year 1 defensive efficiency of .91 or 10th in country!
year 2 .953 or 48th in country
year 3 .954 or 47th in country

year 4 1.031 or 191st
year 5 .988 or 104th

We were there...along with former RU staffers John Wooding, John Beisser and Edgar Delarosa. And yes, I had a CSU Vikings hoodie on!

NJIT plays in a building that's dark, tiny and LOUD when packed in tight like it was last night.

Thrilling game despite Cleve St being down their all league pg due to disciplinary reasons. Got to talk with Coach D and GW for almost an hour post game.

Honored to count those guys amongst our friends, and looking forward to visiting Cleveland again in June!

Nice shout out to Larry D'Semplare. Gary had a strong coaching staff. If he included a NY area recruiter on his staff he probably would have been successful at RU.

I remember being at a Scarlet R meeting at the RAC during the Waters era. One of GW's assistants was speaking to the group. He said then that the greatest need of the MBB program at that time was a practice facility. And that was a long time ago.

Was it Waters who had the top notch recruiter on staff asking who Hurley was? Can't be a way to gain sustainability in state.
