It was great seeing the guys all together having fun at the R awards and also working out, but you have to wonder if the glaring ommision of Sanders has any effect on the team. Ideally you'd love to have your best player be the leader of the team but it doesn't look like that's the case here. I understand Corey is off somewhere hopefully trading on his own, but you can't help but wonder what his teammates think him.

I wouldn't put much into it. Freeman and Williams were granted captains for a reason. Every one has to put in their individual work. At the end of the day, whether you get better or not is not Sanders fault.

Sanders is taking his interviews. Nothing wrong with that. I sometimes wish he had a better person in his ear.

take with a huge grain of salt....

Each game kenpom makes 1 MVP for the game.

freeman 5
nigel 3
mike 3
corey 2

luv Mike, defense and tremendous rebounder at his size for a guard, times his jump really well, and he grabs the basketball like a pork chop. can shoot it when he gets his shoulders square, and almost seems his head has to be right. Corey, much improved defender, and can go right and create his own fairly decent shot almost at will. Teams started over playin him right a ton last year. He gets space as he is so fast, but he needs to make that space count by hitting 3's consistently.

I think the team has pretty good chemistry and very good leadership. Don't think there is any issue here. Staff is also being very conscious of intangibles of who is being brought in (they loved CJ for what he brought off the court, for example).

Corey is the most talented player.

I think both...best and most talented. My guess is that teams had to game-plan "more" in preparation to face Corey Sanders.....they probably had to do less game-planning for Williams, maybe, prevent open looks and watch him on the offensive glass because he was a very good rebounder for a guard.

What I saw is teams were very happy watching Sanders go to his dominant hand and drive right in to help. I really don't think teams were worried about Sanders and to the opposite were encouraging him to have the ball in his hands.

In B1G play Corey shot 37.3% from the field, 32.1% from 3, had a 51 to 49 A/TO, and shot 61.8% from the line.

Mike Williams in B1G play: 34.5% from the field, 30.71% from 3, 16 to 19 A/TO and 74.2% from the line.

we played hard this season, but Mike Williams out worked everyone

Williams showed tremendous improvement last season, but not only did I think Corey was significantly better offensively, but I also thought Sanders was slightly better defensively.

Corey has great athletic ability and definitely stepped up his defensive performance. But Mike Williams generally defended the opposition's best scoring guard.

Disagree. Corey drew players like Walton (Mich), Koenig (Wisc), etc. Coach P rarely took Corey off the opposing teams best guard (at least thats how I saw it).

FIG....I would not exactly say " very happy". He had spurts where he got to the rim and did some damage". I think opposing were very cognizant of his athleticism and ability to get to the rim and draw fouls....even on misses, Freeman or Gettys had a good opportunity for rebounds because defenders had to come over and help.

When you listen to announcers talk in their pre-game comments about what the coaches said about the "Keys to the Game"....it was always two things:

1. Keep Corey Sanders out of the lane.

2. Keep Rutgers off the offensive glass.

I'm not downplaying Williams...he had a heck of year, especially on the glass.

I'll disagree back. While Walton is an exception because he is a scoring point, Mike often came in and was assigned to stop the hot player, even if Corey started out on them. To me Nigel was a better defender.

But I am not slighting Corey, he definitely improved is several areas, top of which was defense. I expect more improvement this coming season.

Corey is a hired gun for RU. Dont expect him to be Geoff Billet or Rob Hodgson in the leadership department.

His offensive efficiency numbers suggest he was one of the worst offensive players in the B1G.
Our team offensive efficiency would've been worse if he passed to his teammates most of which were incapable of making a wide open shot. A bad shot by a good player is often better than good shot by a bad shooter.

Wrong! Such a weak, wrong, and overused excuse.

Opposing teams had to game plan for Corey Sanders.....other players....not so much. That makes him the biggest threat.

This is pretty much true. There were some games were i expected Williams to get the tough assignment and it ended up going to corey

It sounds like Cory isn't coming back. That woul really suck! Get your butt back here Cory...

Probably 75% he comes back. He has a strong connection to the school. Those videos posted on youtube were part of the issue. Sanders was told in HS he would play in college for a year or two, and go to the NBA. The people who told him that screwed him up.

He has a chance to come back and do something. I think he will be here. I would not be surprised if he wasn't though.

If he does return, what is the timeline?

Probably in the next two-three weeks.

Sanders is known to have his best game against great opponents, when a great audience is watching. He seems to really shine with professional instruction(his recent practice sessions.) If he got to a combine, he could wow some people.Maybe get an invite to work out with a team, or get into the d league. Still, I think he will come back.

Never know until he says it,though.

Please. Corey is coming back. Where is he going to go?

The options would be the d league, which is paying 80g/year next year I believe. Or overseas. We all know one of the main criteria is being a high level athlete for NBA, or overseas. That is what gets people out of their seats, and coming back. Sanders checks that box. I am just saying, no one knows for certain but Sanders and those closest to him.

It's not that easy to even stick in the D-League since the NBA teams are now using those teams to give their young draft picks more playing time when their schedule has a few off days. I certainly think that Corey will be back because he is not ready to play professionally. He will continue to improve under Coach Pike.
