Good to see the team all together...except...

It's not that easy to even stick in the D-League since the NBA teams are now using those teams to give their young draft picks more playing time when their schedule has a few off days. I certainly think that Corey will be back because he is not ready to play professionally. He will continue to improve under Coach Pike.

Is that number near the amount to make the team anywhere near full of NBA players? The Westchester Knicks roster is still full of people who have been in the d league for years, and have never sniffed a court. Most D league rosters are.

There are so many leagues to play in overseas and make money, and improve. You do not need to be shooting lights out to play overseas.

If anyone knows positively, just post it. We can stop having this conversation.

Mike Williams in B1G play: 34.5% from the field, 30.71% from 3, 16 to 19 A/TO and 74.2% from the line.
Also, second best rebounder. That had a little to do with his % from the floor. I remember some B1G games where he kept getting rebounds under the boards and missed put backs because he was going up against guys 8-10 inches taller than he.

A lot of those kids on the D-League rosters are also players who finished 4 years of college and earned try-outs with their teams and played in the NBA summer league.

No doubt, just matching stats with Fig.

And that is why they were in the d league to begin with. They played in four years of college. You do not have to wait four years I believe. The d league is a lot more attractive now. Well see what happens. I am hoping Sanders comes back. I just can't say its a positive unless I personally have talked to him.

Sanders would play on many other Big Ten teams, and would start on some. Probably not true for any other player on the current roster.

How many players who play in the D league for more than a few seasons actually make it to the NBA? Not too many

I wouldn't put much into it. Freeman and Williams were granted captains for a reason. Every one has to put in their individual work. At the end of the day, whether you get better or not is not Sanders fault.

Sanders is taking his interviews. Nothing wrong with that. I sometimes wish he had a better person in his ear.
Good post, although I wouldn't conclude he doesn't have good people advising him. Times have changed (you're part of the change, higgs :-)), and his teammates don't put too much stock in Sanders being absent from some things. He'll be part of the awards next year, and he knows that.

are you on drugs???????????????????

If a player batted .215 had 30 HR and struck out 200 times with very few walks and was rated the best prospect in the system 3 years ago I doubt you would call him the team's best player.

So many people have a preconceived notion on the type of player Corey is. Bottom line he is very gifted, but he is not a good basketball player. Other than getting to the paint with his right hand what can he do? He can't shoot, doesn't have vision, and can dribble one way. You can't play his position without a shot or the ability to find the open man.

The goal does not have to be to go from the d league to the NBA now, though. 80gs for the season is not a bad salary at all, especially if you live in a tax friendly state. Those actually exist somewhere in the US...

That is why he is a sophmore. It is not over. Just gotta progress.

Maybe we should ask every coach in the Big 10 who is the best player on Rutgers? Of course, what would they know? How many "likes" do they have on message boards?

Keeping Rutgers off the offensive glass was a concern to coaches. Many of the B1G coaches wanted the ball in Corey's right hand. They wanted him to drive it right in to help because they knew a circus shot was next. A vote on an all conference team is a lot different than what a coach would tell you in a secret conversation behind closed doors.

He does that one thing (drive to his right) really well, which is one of the things RU does offensively that pressures a defense. Those drives open up put back opportunities for bigs, draw fouls, etc.

Agree that other than that there isn't much that makes him a good player. I wouldn't say he doesn't have vision....probably average..

While I agree with this to an extent there is a difference between being a flawed player and being the best player on Rutgers. In my opinion Corey is/was both. I could see someone arguing Freeman, but that's it. I can't see any one other than Corey or Deshaun being considered RU's best player in '16-'17.

They wanted us off the offensive glass because no one on the team can shoot so that was our only chance to score most of the time. Not rocket science.

I'll have to defer to your impressive inside knowledge about the what the B1G coaches wanted Corey to do (go to his right which I thought was something he COULD do. I'm really confused now) and the secret behind closed door conversations you had with them. Last time I checked the votes for the all conference teams by coaches are secret too but, whatever.

Thanks for enlightening the rest of us who only have our own two eyes to gauge good from bad.

I suppose there is a difference between being the best player and being the most effective.

I still stick to my opinion, shared by virtually no one, that we were BETTER in the half court offense with Sanders not in the game.

Sanders is/was excellent in transition and a decent defender. In the half court offense we lost any flow with him and i just got the sense he hijacked the offense.

And again statistics don't lye. With his numbers I have never heard anyone called a good player. There is also no debating his numbers were much better last year with a similar (possibly worst) supporting cast.

All right. Sanders is a bad 13 ppg,3 assist, 3 rebound sophmore year player. Got it! Lol

Can we land another bad player like this?[smoke]

I hope you got my attempt at sarcasm. I think Sanders is a good player. I hope for his sake he becomes great. He has the time to do it if he chooses to.

I hear grf concerns. At times this season, Sanders was a one dimensional player on offense- his circus like drive that he became proficient at. I hope he learns to make the game easier on himself. He has the athleticism, now he has to keep working his fundamentals.

Fan focus should be on upgrading the talent at every position rather than debating who was the best player last season on a team that was ranked last in the B1G.

That's right. Now get out there and upgrade the talent, fans!

We scored a lot of weakside put back points when sanders went high and hard off the glass driving to the basket. A lot. One was Sanders himself and you remember that one. If you're in the Gettys was great last year camp, well, you have Sanders getting penetration at will as a big reason why.

In other news, the press is reporting that Sanders announced Monday that he was declaring himself eligible for the NBA draft. When informed that he had already done so weeks ago, Sanders thanked the reporter, exited the room, and returned ten minutes to declare himself eligible for the NBA draft. Word is that he has scheduled another press conference on Friday in which he is expected to declare himself eligible for the NBA draft.

He declared himself eligible for the draft three more times since my last post. At times, he just keeps muttering "NBA." Doctors have been brought in to see if it's a condition.
