Though we don't know to what extent and how things are trending just yet, according to reports, newly hired defensive coordinator Greg Schiano is seemingly taking the lead for recruiting Jordan Fuller.

Situations have changed, though, as we know. Insert Greg Schiano into the mix and this could be what Ohio State needs to create a spark in Fuller's recruitment. Schiano is not just a great football coach, but he excels at recruiting and has strong ties to the East Coast from his days at Rutgers. Though he won't be coaching in the bowl game, Schiano seems to be making his impact felt already. If Ohio State ends up winning this recruiting battle, Schiano will have played a major role in beating out Rutgers, Notre Dame, and Penn State.

Isn't he subject to the "quiet period" rules currently in effect?

Telephone, text and social media contact is allowed during the dead period, just no in person contact.

They really need to change the name.

Quiet period means no visiting....can talk on phone......Gary is recruiting for OHIO STATE...and HCUM.....a lot to be able to sell to a 18 year old

Well, it is actually Rutgers related since we are going for Fuller. Should we just ignore the facts?

I just said in another thread we need to stop talking about GS and JG but I meant stop obsessing over them one way or the other. I also said we should stop dissing them but any time Schiano and Ash are going head to head for a recruit it is fair game to diss Schiano LOL. In the heat of battle anything goes and we are at war with GS. Kick his Ash.

You know, Ohio St. has always been great recruiting the best players.
But if they continue with what they always have done it is because
of Schiano, I wish someone will break that friggin pedestal some
people put him on. Get it your head, Schiano will never never come back
here. The love affair is over, so get over it. I know, I know, the first love
is the toughest.

So Schiano can call or FB Fuller during dead period. Same as Ash.

I'll wait until he commits to a school before I get excited about this.

Greg says is going to change a lot:

"He told me what he did at Rutgers and I said I heard that academics were paramount at Rutgers when he was there. And he said he's going to do the same thing at Ohio State. And I said, 'Well, that's good, but signing day is right around the corner and there is no luxury of time. We don't have it.' And he said, 'Well, I'm not talking about weeks, I'm talking about getting to the bottom of it, right now.' "

"He called me (Sunday) and he said as soon as the dead period is over, him and Larry Johnson are going to come to the house and he himself is going to do the academic presentation," Coney said.

Maybe someone can put this slide in the mix of the Power Point presentation?

Which is why Cardale left for the draft last year instead of staying to finish his degree.

Dude, the OP did not put him on a pedestal. Nobody is saying we want him back here. This is not about the petty internet arguments on this cesspool of a board. This is mano y mano. Fight or flight. What say you?

Make RU the U (Dade county) !!!!!!!!! Build a wall around New Jersey County

One of my chief concerns when Schiano was announced as going to OSU was this. I still think it hurts us not having Ash here fulltime - and because GS doesn't have to dive right in and assume the duties of DC, he has time to accomplish other tasks like this.

Anyone that didn't think Schiano was going to have a big impact in recruiting is clueless.

He is a former NFL head coach. As I've said many times in the past, that matters.

If they land Gary, make no mistake about it, it would be 100% because of Greg.

"Babyface" should be Gary's nickname. Its like looking at the Gerber Baby's face on Muhammad Wilkerson's body

Funny that kids will look at OSU because of Schiano but when he was at Rutgers those kids wouldn't look at RU. Maybe because they realize he's not the head guy in charge anymore? That's very telling. Plus he will be gone in one year. They won't be playing for him after this year.

I still don't understand why Ash has not relinquished his duties at OSU. If they were playing for NC, I might understand. Plenty of time for other coaches to get everything set for the defense. If I were a Rutgers fan, I'd be pissed.

People can say stuff like this all they want, it doesn't make it any more true.

No one knows how long Schiano will be at Ohio State. Meyer tends to have people sign contracts for 2 years. After which, they generally are sought by others. Maybe Schiano will follow that trend, maybe not. But let's not forget all the people who swore Schiano's "ego" would prevent him from ever coming back to college and those who though his "ego" would prevent him from ever going back to a coordinator job. They were all wrong.

What would be the point of getting pissed off? Burn a few more calories while at rest?

I don't like when people endlessly bash PSU for the Sandusky thing, but if I found out that my football program was enabling and covering up a child-rapist, that would get me pissed off at my football program. ISIS killing off babies w/birth defects pisses me off.

Ash coaching out the season w/his former team? Pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Not even remotely pissed off.

This is ridiculous. Gary is the #1 recruit in the nation. OSU is the most recent national champion. To think the #1 recruit wasn't considering the current national champion before our tarnished, ex-coach who failed miserably in the NFL got there is absurd.

If you have been following Gary's recruitment then you'd know it seems OSU has kind of been on the outside looking in.

That doesn't mean that if RU had Schiano we'd be in it for Gary, because I don't believe that to be the case.

A program like OSU plus Schiano, seems to have opened the door back up for Rashan Gary.

It's been pretty clear that Gary is SEC bound or Michigan. If you don't think Schiano getting hired by OSU has opened that door back up for them then you're just out of touch.

Difference of opinion I suppose. Plenty of other very experienced defensive coaches at OSU to do the job.

Future Broke former NFL player in the making!

Couldn't give 2 shits what Greg Schiano is doing, recruiting-wise, at:

- a school who recruits itself, and

- with a kid who is NOT coming here

...I'm more concerned with the fact that our HC is making inroads on his way to kicking Ash!

Amen.

When Groh arrived at Virginia, his first few years were great with many 4 stars. When Wanny arrived at Pittsburgh, the first few years were great with many 4 stars. Being a NFL coach can do that.

Please stop bringing up Schiano threads.

It's one article. We have no idea what Schiano being at OSU actually means for the Gary situation. The women is an attention ........ loves giving interviews and being part of the story.

She certainly is an attention.......

If this continues with OSU, I don't think it happens without Schiano. That's all I'm saying.

Not that Schiano is 100% the reason why, but just him with OSU I'm sure is an interesting development for the Gary family
