Greg Schiano Making a Recruiting Impact at Ohio State

When Groh arrived at Virginia, his first few years were great with many 4 stars. When Wanny arrived at Pittsburgh, the first few years were great with many 4 stars. Being a NFL coach can do that.

Please stop bringing up Schiano threads.

That's the only point I was trying to make. Regardless of how these coaches do in the NFL, it has a huge impact in recruiting.

I didn't start the thread, just chiming in.

I think it's the Hate Schiano that keeps bringing up threads about him.
I think in this instance it was the direct competition for Jordan Fuller mentioned in the linked story that created this thread.
Should we ignore when we are in competition for a recruit just because Schiano is leading the charge?

Difference of opinion I suppose. Plenty of other very experienced defensive coaches at OSU to do the job.
Maybe there are. But I still don't care. In the grand scheme of things, it's just not that big a deal. Certainly not something I'd get emotional about (i.e. "pissed off").

Only place where Schiano is effective in Jersey is preventing Jersey players from picking Michigan over Ohio State.

Didn't both of those NFL coaches get fired from those college gigs despite the 4 star talent?

I still don't understand why Ash has not relinquished his duties at OSU. If they were playing for NC, I might understand. Plenty of time for other coaches to get everything set for the defense. If I were a Rutgers fan, I'd be pissed.

I am getting pissed. Urban Meyer is holding Ash hostage. He has Schiano filling that spot and recruiting while Ash is stuck working for TOSU. I know, he is recruiting for us as well but his time is limited. Meyer knows there will be some overlap in recruiting and is playing hardball by keeping Ash there. Kind of a d bag move by Meyer.

The question is about recruiting. They did lose their job but the recruiting for the first 3 years were great but then they didn't perform.

That's why when Schiano left we needed to get an NFL head coach for the recruiting. 3 years are about 4-6 4 stars every year and some decent coaching and we would have buried Penn State before Franklin got started.

Everything is about the timing.

Which recruits would there be - for THIS class - any "overlap" with at this point?

That is the deal you sign on for if you accept a job and the potential future opportunity that is afforded to coach with Urban Meyer.

Obviously Herman stayed on last year and it was not just because it was for a NC. Everett Withers also stayed on for tOSU's Orange Bowl game in 2013 after accepting the HC job at James Madison. The policy goes back to Urban's days at Florida. Charlie Strong stayed on at University of Florida for the Sugar Bowl after being named HC at Louisville. Etc., etc.

It's simple. Want to coach under quite possibly the greatest HC in CFB the rules are you stay until the last game is played. It isn't new. It isn't Chris Ash. It isn't you only have to stay on if tOSU is playing for an NC. You stay on until it's over. That's the rule.

I dont understand why anyone, especially RU fans, can't get this.

But here is why it's a silly argument. Greg Schiano will bring nothing to the table that they didn't already have. Below are the rankings for OSU's classes since 2011
2011: #11
2012: #4
2013: #2
2014: #3
2015: #9
2016: #2

If you are sitting in the top 5 nationally most years you are getting your first tier choices anyway.

Maybe Fuller but the point isn't about any one individual player. Its that UM is hurting Rutgers recruiting in general by making Ash stay. Also hurts his ability to put a staff together.
I guess the guy who should be pissed is the other co-DC at OSU. Guess Meyer doesn't trust him to put a game plan together.

Chris and Greg could have a conference call with Jordan from the OSU meeting room. It would go like this:
Schiano: "Hey Jordan. Greg here. I really want you to come play for me at OSU, you would be the man".
Ash: "Hello Jordan. It is Chris. I am the heart of what made OSU go, and I want you to play for me at Rutgers, to make it go. Rutgers will be the next OSU".
Schiano: "Jordon don't listen to Chris. He barely made a dent in building up the OSU's program. As a matter of fact, Chris consulted with me many times because he didn't know how to run a proper defense".
Chris: Jordon, Greg couldn't win at Rutgers and he couldn't win at Tampa Bay. Greg is a loser when it comes to football and he will make you a loser if you go to OSU under him".
Schiano: "Talking about being a loser, Chris is so dumb that he is still here at my school even though he is officially Rutgers head coach. If Chris has no commitment to Rutgers what kind of commitment is he going to give you?"
Ash: "Greg go **** yourself".
Schiano: "Chris **** you".
(muffled banging and thud sounds heard over the phone)
Chris: "Jordan, Greg will not be able to visit you at your home, he had to be rushed to the hospital. I will bring the paperwork over to you as soon as OSU kicks Notre Dame's ass. Thank you for picking Rutgers".

You're 100% correct Big Lou. I started a thread about Schiano scouring the entire northeast for the very best recruits while Ash fulfills his commitment to Meyer. My best guess is he's afraid to burn his bridges. Well, what about his loyalty to his new employer RU? At the end of the day our AD should have given this HC hire some serious thought and considered a different candidate. I know this was a bone headed move by our institution and in time fans will realize I'm right.

Wrong

How will his hurt us (or Ash) in the long term?
If anything, maintaining good relationships with other coaches in the tree where he came from will only help him hire assistant coaches now and in the future.

How will this hurt us "long term"?

How?

I drove by Urban's house, and looked in his living room window. I see he does have Ash pretty well contained:

Because Ohio State and Urban were really struggling with recruiting? They need Greg to lock down the northeast before Ash takes over? I don't know, but this sounds silly,

I was just pleased to see that Urban practices fire safety. I agree with you that the fear of Greg locking down the northeast is silly. Did you intend to respond to me?

If anything it might hurt OSU's chance to win their bowl game. I don't think it will hurt Rutgers.
