I hate Johnson. Every play is the greatest thing that has ever happened in the history of the world.

Like Rafftery.. just wish we'd get some Steve Bardo too.. dude calls it like he sees it.. doesn't think too much about supporting whatever the ref called... I hate how so many broadcasters won't mention a bad or missed call when he sees it.
OMG thank you for this thread. No way I'm watching the game now. Can't stand Gus and can't understand 1/3 of the gibberish that comes out of Raftery's mouth. It's almost as if he turns into Quagmire when a big play happens and starts shouting "Giggidy, Giggidy, Giggidy, remember when I was a great coach? No? No worries, nobody does, I only won 53 percent of my games Giggidy, Giggidy, Giggidy Onions!"

Russ, couldn't agree with you more. Hate them both. RAF drives me nuts. Solution, watch the game with the sound down and listen to the radio guys. It will be out of sinc but better than listening to those two clowns.
Oh it definitely is. The "Look at me" generation loves Gus Johnson. The people who just want the PBP guy to describe what is happening and stay out of the way can't stand his yuking/puking delivery. Although it is not as bad as it was when he was a weekend announcer at WTTG-TV back in the late 90's.
His schtick is just over the top.
I like an announcer that gets into it (love Ian Eagle's enthusiasm for example) but Gus has become a caricature of himself. He was once pretty good but now he sounds ridiculous.
yeah i'm not a fan of Raftery either. Not his fault because he's of "that" generation but he's one of those old New York who waxes poetic about Chris Mullin and Patrick Ewing, Dave Gavitt , the "old" BE and the Gah-den (which I guess I can't get on his case about either since that's where we're playing)

Sorry guys, you may not like them, but having Gus and Raftery just makes this game feel even more big time. I like some of the BTN no name guys, but this is big time.
I hope we get a Raf game next year, need to hear him say Kiss with the Kiss!
Some of u people are phucking insane. Raft "IS" college basketball!!!! He is the freakin' best. I don't care if it's sometimes gibberish, he simply IS collge basketball. Give me Raft, Verne Lundquist and Jay Bilas and I'm a happy camper watching a game, I don't care if it's Rowan vs. Rutgers-Newark.

He "worked" for a brief time in the same organization of my very first job out of college. I say "worked" because he was in the Government Relations group--high profile Jersey guys that schmoozed with NJ pols and officials for "business development". He basically did lunches and dinners mixed in with a lot of golf in the good weather months. He would pop in and chat with us "rookies" every now and then. He was the same jovial guy in person as his TV persona.
I feel you on Bilas. I got to admit, and I can't believe I'm about to actually typing these words, John Thompson III is an analyst I really enjoy listening to.
I've probably watched five games he was part of the broadcast team for and he broke things down concisely, didn't do shtick, and is articulate.
If I can't understand what the hell an analyst is saying I don't care how much he knows about the game of basketball.
Dick Vitale made every analyst feel like she's got to be some kind of entertaining funny man. For that alone I feel like driving over to Sarasota and punching him in the face.
