Man’s win tonight

Were your eyes closed during Lathan's minutes?
I’m not saying Lathan played well, but MO was lost on defense most of the night, he is huge but doesn’t play that way. I do agree he got some very important rebounds, a huge few at the end of the game, but he needs to be better on defense.

so many good posts in this thread... great game.. great W.. it looked and felt like BASKETBALL.

so many times I have watched some Rutgers games and thought it looked more like a pick-up game.

Ace has grown a lot. You still see the true frosh.. but he is learning so fast on D and even has learned he does not have to do it all.. he has teammates out there. That team play on O and D will make him money in the NBA.. assure teams he is worth a lottery pick. mature.

Breaking Nebraska’s 20-game home winning streak, including wins over 12 consecutive Big 10 teams, is just what the doctor ordered for this team!

Eh you can’t play Ogbole 30 + minutes and Ace was borderline foul trouble all game so not an easy choice to sit Sommerville the whole 2nd half and go small lineup.

I respectfully disagree. First of all, Lathan and Acuff together are not a good combination. I don’t care who thought that starting line up was a magic bullet for UCLA. That combo hurts us on D and any benefit on offense isn’t really complimentary to what Dylan and Ace bring - it’s redundant. Grant has provided badly needed complementary offense. He’s been a huge asset. Nobody else has offered much of a consistent complement unfortunately although Martini really came through yesterday.

Circling back to your point - with Grant and Ace on the court together, Martini was a fine choice to insert for those filler minutes alongside two guards (mostly J Will with Jordan spotting - I personally would not play Davis with a smaller front court line up as he’s a poor rebounding guard - but JWill and Jordan together offer enough depth with Dylan as a rotation). That line up would’ve been fine for the stretches without Ogbole.

I still think with no Ogbole or Lathan on the floor is puts Ace at more risk of picking up fouls.

Ace wants to block every shot and already struggles a bit staying on his feet and avoid fouls.

With a small lineup he needs to play bigger so you’re probably going to increase his risk of fouling and he was borderline foul trouble all night. If he picked up that extra foul at any point it completely changes the game.

Latan’s defense was pretty weak last night but it wasn’t just him. Nebraska had a few runs where it seemed like nobody was defending well including guys like Dylan, Grant, Dercack.

In the end Sommerville only played 15 minutes. I don’t think sitting him a whole half is the answer. We need to keep giving him some opportunity to grow and develop. There’s gonna be games where Ogbole is off and we’ll need him.

Bailey's overall game has gotten so much more complete, his rebounding and play around the rim has added a huge plus to the team, obviously a team guy and a very coachable kid, with an absolutely positive attitude. Great Court presence on the last play where he gets the ball to a wide open Grant before they can foul him. Ogbole has actually become a serviceable rebounder with a significant improvement at both ends of the court.
