Happy Valley prepares for our arrival

Can a Penn State fan explain what exactly this is? I assume these kids aren't skipping classes, so they're basically just sleeping on the ground at night instead of their dorm room? Or is it just some hangout that looks good for the cameras & when the chill comes at 2am they all go back to their dorms?

They can only start camping on Thursday but one game a year they are allowed to camp out for a week. They have been camping out for a while but things got organized in 2005 after the week long camp out for Ohio State. They set up tents, cots, air mattresses, and leave for things like class and showering. There are rules, I think one person from the group has to be present, to hold your place. The point of it is because seat assignment are based on first come, first served, to get the rail seats kids need to be at the front of the line.

It not just for the cameras, in fact I'd say the 2 am hour is when most people would be there.

Here is a YouTube clip from 2013. Starting about the 54 sec mark there are some shots of the "facilities". I realize you probably don't want to watch the entire video so I tried to use a link that started it there but I think it got parsed out by the media linker.

does this mean the stadium will be filled with people who have slept in the dirt and haven't showered in a week?

I'm tellin' ya, when it's all said and done, I come out looking like a genius re: this clusterf*ck.

I'm already on record for not wanting to go. 12+ hours, beer, PSU fans can't end well.

I'm more than happy to pitch the party tent in the back yard, drag out the big screen and cook some meat.

Or the bar works.

We had a smaller scale one in 2006 before Loiusville game when it meant something

Creep State...

Imagine how polite, cordial and inviting these weird, warped and creepy goons are going to be! Maybe they'll hold a JoePa riot in our honor.

I wouldn't go to this game under any circumstances. Imagine all the urine filled rubbers they'll save up during the camp out. I want nothing to do with that place.

Glad to hear they are not doing anything special for this game like a student white out or sleeping in their own filth or anything weird like that.

So looking forward to this game. Brought my buddy (an OSU guy) to the OSU game last year and he is coming with us again for the Rutgers game this year. Said he is looking forward to rooting for PSU for the first time.

RV Lot is going to be a blast with the two fanbases mingling.

You won't be missed.

For a team that calls itself "Unrivaled" and thinks playing us is no different than their other opponents they sure are rolling out all of the special gimmicks for our matchup.

Just a coincidence, I'm sure. They never offered to be our rival.

Nittanyville choosing this as their week camp out signifies nothing other than its an early season night game.

Now, that said I don't mind calling this a rivalry and I think it could grow into a good one over time. I've mentioned this before but I feel like the reason a lot PSU fans won't call it a rivalry yet is because the last 10 years have pretty much been the high water mark for RU Football whereas the last 10 years have largely been a disappointment for PSU Football and yet PSU has still out performed RU. RU one top 25 season (2006 - #12); PSU 3 top 25 seasons (2008 - #8, 2009 - #9, 2006 - #24); RU win percentage 62.1%; PSU win percentage 67.8%.

It's going to take some RU wins against us before that rivalry truly develops.

I guess you haven't looked at our home schedule

I did...and I couldn't stop laughing.
You don't leave Pennsylvania until October 17th....when you travel all the way to Ohio.
Pedd St. must be saving a bundle on travel expenses this Fall.

Easy people. It said right up front they're doing it that week because the weather will be warmer than for their white-out game.

Beat them. Then it gets fun for years. I was there when we beat them the last time, and since it wasn't a conference thing -- and it was the worst Penn State team in about 25 years -- it didn't really last. Oh, that and we only went like 5-6 or whatever that year and a year later Dick was fired. But beat them this time and the sweetness will last for a while and make the next few games with them f-ing awesome.

Cool story bro

Get ready for YOUR people to consider it a rivalry because it is going to start ,for YOU,on 9/19 when RU WINS on your home field.

State Penn will have its hands full on Week One. Actually think Temple will upset them in the Linc.
