Hello News12--Football Season Starts Tonight !!!

The coverage of Rutgers Football this August has been HORRIBLE !!! Last night,they spent about four seconds--almost nothing all camp. Bring back George Falkowski. Nick Meidanis is so bad, I don't even know how to describe him. At least Jason Kahn doesn't have a smirk on his face the entire time. Heck,the station is in EDISON--they could walk over to campus !!!

Let a player get so much as a parking ticket and they'll be there faster than the speed of light interviewing some clueless freshman who says they feel unsafe now around campus.

At this point,they don't have to report any breaking news,just some coverage. They can read stuff right from Hunt,Dunleavy,Sargeant,etc. Can you imagine a station that is two feet from Florida State,Texas Tech,Oregon,Nebraska,Wisconsin,etc. ignoring their state university's football team ? I really wish the new station,WJLP, at The Shore and the one up in Sussex/Morris County would get their act together and stop showing Matlock and Korean News Tonight once in a while !

I went to Myrtle Beach in mid August for years. Everywhere you went it was two things...NASCAR and college football, specifically USCe and Clemson with a little UNC thrown in.

I'll always remember talking to the starter at the Davis Love course at Barefoot Landing in '06. Big USCe fan. I told him I was a RU fan. He says he's going up to UNC for the game with a couple friends, one of whom played for UNC. He asks if I think RU has a chance. I tell him about Rice, Leonard, and an improving defense in my usual Pollyanna way. We wish each others team well and move on.

Fast forward a year and we're at Barefoot again, taking the clubs out of the car when I hear "Hey Rutgers". It's the starter. He shakes my hand and says thanks. He said he rooted for RU and not only was able to have bragging rights the ride home but won a little cash. He then put us out ahead of our starting time lol.

NJ News 12 only devotes about 30 seconds to each sports cast. It's going to focus on the sports with the most fans' interest. I enjoy college football over pro football. That's what I watch on Saturday afternoons during the football season. However, not too many other sports fans in NJ are thinking college football this time of the year. They are more excited about Yankees, Mets, Jets and Giants. That's just the way it goes in the tri State and the South Jersey / Philly areas. With the demise of the Ledger and other daily newspapers, I would bet that the vast majority of fans don't even know that Rutgers is playing tomorrow. Fan interest in college football in this area fortunately tends to pick up in late September and early October.

That is kind of the whole point of watching News 12,so people in New Jersey don't have to watch a TV station talking about another block in New York burning down or muggings in Philly. We have NINE MILLION PEOPLE here and almost no TV coverage. People don't turn on NEWs 12 New Jersey to hear about New York or Philadelphia teams--there are a zillion other places that cover their teams.If they would just provide some type of good coverage of NJ high school,college, and pro teams,people would know News 12 is the station to watch.

It will at least cover the RU football games and show a highlite or two. That's about it though, other than an ocasional scandal that is not really that newsworthy. Sports has been deemphasized at the station in recent years.

Batts,you are right--I just wish it wasn't so. Some nights there is NO sports coverage at all. However,for those really into weather reports, News 12 has you covered. Some nights, I swear 40% of the telecast is devoted to weather LOL.

Falkowski, Joey Wahler and Bryan DeNovellis comprised a fine sports broadcasting staff.

News12 sports coverage has gone downhill since they left/let go.

On behalf of George, I'm just saying that he saw this thread and the praise of his previous coverage of RU football. He wants the RU fan base to know that he has read this thread and is very appreciative of your kind words.

He's a good guy who I believe got a raw deal based on numbers instead of actual thinking. If you want to annoy some people, hit up news12nj@news12.com with your thoughts on their actions.
