Here's A Stat For You

That's amazing! Wasn't IU one of the nation's leaders in scoring per game coming into the RAC today? With our full team finally playing together, hopefully this will become the norm for the RU defense.

They were averaging 87 PPG coming into tonight. Previous low was 77 against North Carolina earlier this week.

In the Pikiell press conference, they mentioned it was the lowest points scored by a top-10 team period, in the AP Poll since 1983 (almost 40 years)

Another amazing stat is we are #1 defending the 3pt shot in all of basketball 36-176 20.5%, 2nd is Houston 40-190 21.1%.

Was at that one in the Garden. Bailey’s national coming out.
Same here, except the game was actually played on February 19, 1977. Triple header with Iona beating South Florida and Seton Hall losing to NC Charlotte lead by Cedric Maxwell. Great atmosphere as RU fans took over the Garden. Bailey with four alley oop slams en route to a 29 and 12 game. Nearly 14,000 in attendance.

Yes. It was a great day. The first game was crazy because it ended in triple OT and a fist fight. My family didn’t stay for the full UNCC-SHU game, but I believe that UNCC team went onto to win the NIT that year or finish second. They made the final four the following year where some have argued they got jobbed in the Marquette game.

Pretty good memory, Pete. NC Charlotte lost the NIT final in 76 to Kentucky and made the final four in 77, losing to a loaded Marquette team that won the championship for Al McGuire. Marquette scored at the buzzer to win by 2, which was controversial as it was not clear the shot beat the buzzer.

Yes, the Cincy game in ‘77 was when JB truly became “Jammin James”
Coincidentally, his first start, also occurred at the Garden, 2 seasons earlier in a win over Penn..
