When he took the job, he really had no idea what he was in forAsh, during last week's Chris Ash Show, was asked about the volume of the music piped into the stadium and the lack of the pre-game alma mater. His reaction was classic.
He tried to mute it some, but you could see he was thinking something along the lines of: "Are you freaking kidding me? I'm the football coach and I work 20 hours per day dealing with every issue related to the team. So maybe you can forward those complaints to someone who can do something about it rather than make me your go between".
What he said was considerably more PC and he said he'd forward the issues along to those who might be able to do something about it. I'm guessing his view of a culture change at RU doesn't include fans whining about the game day experience to the football coach.

Rutgers (and some of the the things we have done on game day) was here before him and will still be here after he leaves. However short or long that tenure may be.When he took the job, he really had no idea what he was in for
True. And we are not saying they aren't valid concerns for the fan-base.Rutgers (and some of the the things we have done on game day) was here before him and will still be here after he leaves. However short or long that tenure may be.
There was the new version of the alma mater. I missed the horse video unless he was running behind the jogger and stayed off camera. No horse video. It's a shame. No alma mater either. Just terrible.
Agree.True. And we are not saying they aren't valid concerns for the fan-base.
But the pregame singing of the alma mater, the volume of the speaker system in the stadium, and the playing of the horse video are not Ash's fault nor his responsibility.
People should complain to the AD's office, maybe. Not to the coach who has enough to worry about right now. What's next, asking him to personally inspect the chicken nuggets to ensure they've been cooked to 165 degrees internally?
Ah, okay. He has, in press conferences or maybe the Chris Ash Show, mentioned that we have some great traditions and that he would like to add some or tweak some. So I'm sure he gets it.Agree.
I like my FB coaches to coach and let the others do their thing.
My point was that I hope he acknowledges and understands some of the things/traditions we do here.
I think he does too.Ah, okay. He has, in press conferences or maybe the Chris Ash Show, mentioned that we have some great traditions and that he would like to add some or tweak some. So I'm sure he gets it.
When did you hear the ALma Mater other then at the end when the team sings it? It was not pregame. There was the new version of the alma mater. I missed the horse video unless he was running behind the jogger and stayed off camera.
Might have been at the end like you said. Got in the stadium about 11:45 and saw most of the pre-game.When did you hear the ALma Mater other then at the end when the team sings it? It was not pregame.
No, A cheesy shortened video was played. They had some fat loudmouth guy in a safari hat on the field instead. Yeech!I wasn't able to make the New Mexico game. Did they go back to the original Knight on the horse video for that game?
I think Ohio State does a full band concert prior to the game. We are planning to attend the concerts this year.Ash, during last week's Chris Ash Show, was asked about the volume of the music piped into the stadium and the lack of the pre-game alma mater. His reaction was classic.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't care all that much about the pregame and while the horse video was ok, my experience isn't negatively impacted without it. Clearly from this thread it was important to some percentage of the fanbase. It also doesn't bother me much that the alma mater is now reserved for after the game only. What he said was considerably more PC and he said he'd forward the issues along to those who might be able to do something about it. I went out there for the game two seasons ago. The "tailgate" scene is very different and very cool. Basically the whole town turns into one great big party. There are areas in town that have live bands, all kinds of food trucks and so forth. Plenty of beer to be had everywhere.I think Ohio State does a full band concert prior to the game. We are planning to attend the concerts this year.
I personally don't care about the pregame and I'm not an alum so the alma mater thing doesn't mean anything to me. But I still care for the sake of the alums and old timers for whom those traditions are an important piece of the game day experience. I can empathize because there are traditions that I've been fond of that have changed over my lifetime (I figure most of us can say that).Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't care all that much about the pregame and while the horse video was ok, my experience isn't negatively impacted without it. The band is almost meaningless since it only plays to one side of the field. If you are located on the opposite side of the field you can't here the band. I've accompanied my spouse to the games for over twenty years and feel the quality of the game day experience has declined significantly.I'm not a huge fan of the new horse video but doesn't matter a whole lot. I do like the pace and sequence of events in the pre game more now though. Things seem to move along nicely.
Band comes out and plays their sequence, with a new extended version of the Colonel Rutgers song, then march over to the tunnel, horse runs out, team runs out, band goes to end zone, visiting team comes out, national anthem, play ball.
It just flows better than in years past when it was band, few minutes break, knight mascot rides out with "This is R House" flag, couple minutes break, horse, couple minutes break, roster, teams come out, etc.
It would just be nice if some of the fans were around to see it. And I would like the alma mater to be incorporated into the pre game, either while the band is on the field or after the anthem.
