How Did So Many Penn State Fans Get Tickets

We lost 4 games early and fans sold the tickets.
No.. in past games people indicated that ticket brokers hold a lot of tickets and dumped them late against the cupcake teams.. tix were listed for $2-$3.. some fans who had season tickets last year said they were denied season tix this year and were upset when they saw this ticket dumping.

How do you know all these cheap tix were dumped by brokers? Our fans sell tickets too. In the past two seasons, I was able to buy OOC tickets from board member for $5-10 each. Some fans dumped OOC tickets to SeatGeek/Stubhub and turned on dynamic pricing. So the price would keep dropping through time.

I waited it out until today on tix and got a really good deal (and used Richie’s $20 off promo code too). There were very reasonable ones on SeatGeek.

I basically short circuit at the thought of opposing fan bases coming into the RAC and having a good time and seeing their team win.

Penn State is a school for vapid mouth breathers who lack courage.

I also thought that there were more PSU fans than normal / per prior years at the game

I’m sure more were there because PSU BB is playing well and a win vs Purdue will motivate their small fan base.

Regardless, They were well behaved as I had several near me in the 100 s.

Have seats in upper 311. Worst seats in the RAC and try to sell and move down when we can since there’s usually a lot of opposing fans up there for big ten games. There was a decent amount of PSU fans in 311 and 312 that got pretty loud when they brought it close.

It's pretty clear that RU still selling tickets through StubHub or SeatGeek in the 300s. Pretty dissapointing that they didn't sell them as normal season tix to RU fans. I have different people around me every game.

Def more than usual for the Peds, presumably because they're off to a good start. To be fair they're one of the least obnoxious visiting fanbases at the RAC imo.

I would venture to guess that they have the biggest opponent alumni fanbase within a 60 min drive from the RAC so considering this it really wasn't an overwhelming turnout.

there were still a good number...last year they took over in the late stages as RU fans filed out and RU lost by 16

most upper level but some scattered in the 200s..only heard them once this game. RU going up bigly for most of the game basically negated them and then when it got close, the rac came alive on defense

Didn't see many outside of the group sitting in the complimentary tix behind their bench. If there were a coupe hundred that would be alot.

It is amazing that people don’t understand that Corporate sponsors get tickets as part of the contract & can do what they want with them. Both seat geek & stub hub are corporate sponsors, does anyone think that the CEO’s of these companies are gonna sit in them?

We’ve essentially shut out opposing teams from the RAC the past 4-5 years.

If any opposing team has a fanbase that infiltrates the RAC this year or beyond it’s on fickle Rutgers fans for selling their season tickets to games or on Rutgers fans for not buying up the tickets that are available on the market.

Our fans are generally cheap and want discounted tickets. I often have pretty good 200 level seats available if my whole family can’t make a game and look to sell on the boards to get them in the hands of Rutgers fans and people often try and nickel and dime me or haggle for the tickets.

So pathetic but then again there was a thread on here a month ago with people bragging about haggling with the minimum wage employee at a Shake Shack that they could get a free shake without buying anything.

Grown men driving 20 minutes to get a free smoothie that costs $9 and refusing to buy even a snack to qualify for it.

Then these same people wonder why we suck in most sports because no giving happens.

Shit drives me nuts with our fanbase.

I can’t make it (or choose not to drive over an hour each way particularly for night games with sketchy weather) quite often. I always look to the board first but it’s tough - there’s very little demand even for the game Tuesday. I end up selling them on seatgeek when I can vs leaving them empty. Hopefully they go to rutgers fans. If I give up my tickets which I probably would have this year if not for the freshmen I have doubts about a rutgers fan buying vs a ticket broker. (Upper 200 on the aisle). I probably wont renew this year and just buy better tickets for the few games I’m able to attend. Hopefully a true fan buys them.

It was the first game I missed (2 300 level seats) due to being out of town. I tried to sell them on the ticket board here and even dropped the price 3 times. Finally dumped them on SeatGeek for $35 each

It's the way of the ticket world. If you bought a ticket for $100 and it's going for $200 on a third party website, people will want to pay $100 for it because that's what you paid. If said ticket is going for $25 on the open market, they will want to pay $25.

Yep I’m in the same exact situation as my drive is also an hour (minimally) each way.

For weeknight games it’s closer to 1.5 hours to get to the RAC for me as it can take 30 minutes to go the 5 miles from Exit 9 to the RAC like it did the other night.

I’ve had my seats for about 8 years. For conference games I always look to sell them to Rutgers fans on this board (as opposed to making a small profit and risking opposing fans sitting in the seats).

I try to sell for face value (or below) to Rutgers fans and I can’t tell you how many times people have tried to barter back and forth or have committed to buying them only to change their mind later (probably bc they found cheaper). I’m almost at the point where I’ll just sell on SeatGeek because it’s just easier.

Having basketball season tickets is a major commitment (time and money). The weeknight games are not easy to get to (especially the 6:30pm games).

People that think basketball season tickets are such a bargain need to realize how much of a commitment it actually is.

And the more they raise prices the more season ticket holders will offload onto SeatGeek - which means more opposing fans in the building when we play schools like PSU, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio State, Purdue etc.

These are the fans who would be more than willing to pay above face value to see their team every 1-2 years play at the RAC.

Correct. For what I pay and how often I can get there I’m better off picking a couple games a year and getting great seats.

I equalized the prices and the only way I got them to sell was on seat geek

Maybe some of you wealthy fans who sit at the 100 level should try just one game at the 200 level with the poor people like us. Game after game, we have some fanatic opposing team fans around us. Someone is buying season tickets to sell them to the highest bidders - which are often opposing fans.

Not being a calm human being, I am often ready to punch them out before the game is over. There were numerous PSU fans there, and some of them were eager to push their "we are - Penn State" calling card.

We also do not get any Rutgers t-shirts or TV's or whatever they decide to hand out for free during the games.

Can we please change the bullshit title of this thread? (I know that Tango won't but I'm stilled stunned it was posted in the first place...there were NOT a lot of PSU fans there....I guess we forget the times 'Cuse fans will fill both sides of the 300's???).

I'm pretty sure the guy sitting directly behind me was the ONLY PSU fan on our side of the 100's (I'm probably hyperbolizing but you get the drift....).

Bottom line is there is NO other FBS/P4 school (both sports) that is surrounded by HUGE alumni bases - from the A10 to the Big East to the Big Ten - the way that we are so, UNFORTUNATELY, those school's fans ARE GOING TO GET THEIR HANDS ON TICKETS. Yes, it sucks, but there's not much to do about it OTHER THAN - get this - WINNING. A LOT.
