How Did So Many Penn State Fans Get Tickets

Maybe some of you wealthy fans who sit at the 100 level should try just one game at the 200 level with the poor people like us. Game after game, we have some fanatic opposing team fans around us. Someone is buying season tickets to sell them to the highest bidders - which are often opposing fans.

Not being a calm human being, I am often ready to punch them out before the game is over. There were numerous PSU fans there, and some of them were eager to push their "we are - Penn State" calling card.

We also do not get any Rutgers t-shirts or TV's or whatever they decide to hand out for free during the games.
Fwiw I doubt anyone is buying tickets in the 200’s to sell to the highest bidder unless they like losing money.

Can we please change the bullshit title of this thread? (I know that Tango won't but I'm stilled stunned it was posted in the first place...there were NOT a lot of PSU fans there....I guess we forget the times 'Cuse fans will fill both sides of the 300's???).

I'm pretty sure the guy sitting directly behind me was the ONLY PSU fan on our side of the 100's (I'm probably hyperbolizing but you get the drift....).

Bottom line is there is NO other FBS/P4 school (both sports) that is surrounded by HUGE alumni bases - from the A10 to the Big East to the Big Ten - the way that we are so, UNFORTUNATELY, those school's fans ARE GOING TO GET THEIR HANDS ON TICKETS. Yes, it sucks, but there's not much to do about it OTHER THAN - get this - WINNING. A LOT.
Agreed. In no way do the B1G hoops fanbases take over the RAC like the old BE foes did, presumably because they were more fanatic about hoops and were generally much closer to CNJ than any B1G school (other than PSU/MD) like Nova, Cuse, SHU, SJU, UConn, etc. Winning definitely helps keep the riff raff out, though.

Lousy - I boxed them out easily, especially those little 8-year old PSU fans. You want me to send you a t-shirt for free?
For a guy who writes 5000 word weather reports you are one of the quietest people in the world watching a game.

(yes, I know, just the opposite of me ha ha ha)

Can't tell if joking or not. Was yelling my head off much of the game. Our crew is one of the few in 102 that stands up and yells on big defensive possessions (have been yelled at to sit down a few times) and for most fight song cheers.

There weren't many agree; and for the most part seemed to be families. Fortunately, we kept them quiet until the end when they woke up for about a minute. And know you can't keep everyone out - but thought we were at a point especially this year where the building would be 100% us; and maybe that will be case the rest of the way. Can only hope so.

OK, maybe I just couldn’t hear you over myself lolol!!! So since you sat there, have you actually met my dad? It’s my uncle who has the seat closer to you.

No worries, I couldn't hear my buddy two guys down, let alone you 8' away, lol, but then again my hearing has been ruined by decades of way too loud music. Speaking of which, my guess is you'd like the band we're going to see tomorrow night in Queens - LCD Soundsystem (one of my all-time favorites and an amazing live band).

I met your dad at a game awhile back, but not sure about your uncle. Which seat numbers are they in? I'll say hi next game - the only game of the year I'll have my whole family to (for some reason, all of our crew is out of town for the SHU game and I have all 4 of our tickets).

Yep I’m in the same exact situation as my drive is also an hour (minimally) each way.

For weeknight games it’s closer to 1.5 hours to get to the RAC for me as it can take 30 minutes to go the 5 miles from Exit 9 to the RAC like it did the other night.

I’ve had my seats for about 8 years. For conference games I always look to sell them to Rutgers fans on this board (as opposed to making a small profit and risking opposing fans sitting in the seats).

I try to sell for face value (or below) to Rutgers fans and I can’t tell you how many times people have tried to barter back and forth or have committed to buying them only to change their mind later (probably bc they found cheaper). I’m almost at the point where I’ll just sell on SeatGeek because it’s just easier.

Having basketball season tickets is a major commitment (time and money). The weeknight games are not easy to get to (especially the 6:30pm games).

People that think basketball season tickets are such a bargain need to realize how much of a commitment it actually is.

And the more they raise prices the more season ticket holders will offload onto SeatGeek - which means more opposing fans in the building when we play schools like PSU, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio State, Purdue etc.

These are the fans who would be more than willing to pay above face value to see their team every 1-2 years play at the RAC.
I live up north, so I get off exit 10 on the turnpike, 287 North, exit 6, and that is a straight road all the way to the RAC

287 had some backup, because of the start time, but most of the time it is not a problem

Yeah I've tried to sell here plenty of times and everyone wants a deal or has flat out asked for free tickets or has backed out. I can't go to the Columbia game and instead of dealing with the BS here, I went to SeatGeek and made some money. It's not worth the hassle. I'm also not worried about Columbia basketball fans taking over the RAC.

I basically short circuit at the thought of opposing fan bases coming into the RAC and having a good time and seeing their team win.

Penn State is a school for vapid mouth breathers who lack courage.

Arguably a top 5 worst experience in my entire life was the January 2009 Rutgers-Syracuse game at the RAC.
Johnny Flynn, Paul Harris and Eric Devendorf game.

I'm sure others here were at that game.
Awful.

I have bought plenty of tickets off this site, if the price was fair ( which I think it always has been) I pay what’s asked. I would much rather deal with folks here rather than pay the exorbitant fees Seat Geek and its ilk charge.

I’m sorry to hear the people putting them up for sale on this site have been so annoyed that they would rather put them on seatgeek than sell here. I do hope that you all continue to put your extras here for sale at least before you put them on Seat Geek.

Not in the student section - I don't recall any there. Still the loudest crowd I've ever been part of and obviously being in the student section was part of that.
I just meant overall. I was in the Student Section too that night and there weren’t any.

That one sliver behind the bench…all the way from courtside to the top of the 300s.

I’m sure RU was required by the A10 to give them a decent allotment for the championship game

lol of course dad won't be there.....he's seat #9 and my uncle #10...hasta manana!

Of course.

Again, just mentioning how when we say how many other fans are at the games, no matter how large it seems, it was never like that.

Pretty sure i was at least that one.

But What about the Villanova game (presumably during the Jordan era) where they beat us …. I mean it was literally like 100-40. It was brutal. Surrounded by nova fans laughing at the dunk exposition nova was showing us. Bru Tal

We sit in the 200’s and are surrounded by seats that are occupied by different people every game for the past several seasons. Saw them for sale on Stubhub when the season started. So someone thinks they can make money.

Some buyers are Rutgers fans and sometimes they are the opposing team fans. Most of them are quiet and respectful . CJ Wilcher’s Uncle sat next to us when Nebraska was in town and he easy to talk to.

The 4 seats behind me in 213 are also different fans every game.

And for conference games - they’re usually the opposing fans.

Whoever owns those seats sell every game. They probably lost $ on the non conference games but do pretty with the conference games.

Also known as, up until 2019, the day the Rac died

They opened up parts of the student section as actual seating (which, in and of itself, on a Saturday, vs. Syracuse, is crazy the students didn't fill it) and I was seated in the first row with my Cuse buddy

When Johnny dunked over Rosario, the place went bonkers
The chants of "Let's go Orange" still resonate in my head from time to time from that day

These are the 6 seats beside me, maybe its because its 6 together but they sell ever game and even the crappy non conference games they get about $100 a ticket. For today they were going for $340 on Stub hub before fees and they sold about a month ago.

Whoever has them probably made back the $950 already and every game after this is profit.
