How do you feel about #FencetheGarden

D on't like it. Don't think enough thought was given to picking a slogan. Greg used "fence" and we know how well that worked.Wall, as someone posted would be an improvement. LET'S GET CREATIVE HERE GUYS.!! It's not to late to help the Staff come up with a good one.

Well what a surprise negativity 2 weeks in to the Ash error over something like this. I happen to like it, it is a new direction, and support it too because we have not seen the end product yet but we seem to be quick to put our opinion on something they are trying to build already. I hope it works we could use a positive recruiting coo from our own state. I hope the kids get that this staff can be the real deal but they need homegrown talent to help them be competitive. GO RU

There's something sissy about #fencethegarden. Don't like it...not tough enough.

I picture a white picket fence around a bunch of colorful flower beds. Not exactly a fitting football image.

Need something stronger, like #gonnataxtheshitoutofyou

You've been here since 2006. No amount of negativity with any chronology on this board should ever surprise you.

sounds corny but then again most of the recruiting hashtags are.

#makeNJgreatagain

Well you sound like an east coast cornball because the guy that came up with it is from Florida. Nice try at being a jerk though.

I'm sorry, maybe I should have said country bumpkin? If you don't want peoples opinion then don't ask the question. If saying a proposed slogan which represents RU sounds stupid to me makes me a jerk so be it.

"Keep Chopping" could have been like "War Eagle", but Flood couldn't get that right either. He had too many derivatives of "Chop". I guess the mathematician in him got the best of him.

Yeah I know I was being sarcastic I guess I should have put Gee what a surprise NOT

"walled garden" is more of a known reference......maybe they'll see this post and upgrade that fence to a wall

Walls are stronger than fences, but "Walled Garden" is getting dangerously close to sounding like our recruiting strategy mirrors a Chinese food buffet.

FauxKyle Flood does not seem to be a fan:

I get the whole "just go out and win" thing. I do.

But I must remind you, it's 2016. That's what we are competing with. And you can't just not play cause some think its stupid.

Winning blows away any # slogan by a million.
Having #CHOP used by Flood so much while getting beat by 30 every week looked dumb.
And you don't have to play along.
Let the players make their own # up instead of a coach or some marketing personnel.

I get it more than most. Its time to stop following and start leading.
Rutgers needs to go back to basics and stop being a lemming.
Rutgers never landed a player because of some # bullship

I dont want to get into a back and forth with you...but you're clearly not approaching this from the standpoint of the teens that we're recruiting.

now, you may not like the slogan fence the garden...and I agree that no kid is going to chose a kid solely on a slogan. that's fine and no sane person on this board would debate that.

but to suggest (as you are) that we need to stop the social media assault and "just win" comes across as being clueless to the reality of today's college football landscape.

As I said let the players and recruits do all the # they want. Having coaching and marketing put this crap out looks forced and that's how you get # fencethegarden

You were probably one of those that thought uniforms were so important to recruiting. That it's all about what the kids like. But when the kids were given a choice what uniforms to wear they choose the old ones instead and made many look like fools and ended the argument.

Yep, he nails it. Social media is a huge way to connect with kids now. And not just with the kids we're currently recruiting, but the ones we'll be recruiting in a couple of years. Setting up a presence now through social media is just as important as connecting with them in person. It's just another way to grow up Rutgers.

#chopnation still one of my favorite RU hashtags. I hope we keep the chop thing .. Unique to RU , gives visible people something to do in front of a camera to identify with RU

The team can stop the chop thing while fans still identify as chop nation...yeh?

PARTICULARLY THIS:
social media has really helped us. There's a tweet quota that you have to have on our staff. I'm not going to say what it is, but Twitter is free marketing, and everyone on our staff has to do it. To not use social media would be a huge mistake. Our target audience stares at their phones nine hours a day. Why would you not put the UH logo in front of them as many times as you can?

Not sure if I like it or not. First time I saw it, I thought of MSG, not the garden state. Thoughts?
Dislike. It sounds much more like what I might do to keep deer out of my backyard garden - rather than to keep people in "the Garden State".

Pick up the rotary phone and just make it happen! Email? Pfffft. That's for wimps! #leatherhelmets # comeback!

I guess you missed the part of getting the big recruit and it snowballed from there. Its the players and recruits that drive success.

You are correct that the recruits and players drive success. However, when you are at a disadvantage in corralling the recruits and players compared to your peer group who has significantly more resources....it seems wise to think out of the box when marketing, attracting and selling said recruits and players. I am not a twitter person, however I understand and agree with the merits of its usage and slogans.

That's my point. This isn't thinking outside the box. Every team is doing this. Rutgers is playing follow the leader...again .
General Patton said it best "If everyone is thinking alike, then someone isn't thinking"
Like I said above let the players come up with the slogans instead of a coach or marketing rep pushing some of these stale ideas .

Every team has a # identity on Twitter. To not have one is bad form. It's not being a follower. It's being relevant. PSU has a good one. #PSUnrivaled
The issue is the choice of the #. #FenceTheGarden should be jettisoned.
#RFootball is fine.

Something to grab the attention of the faux reppers, reppin' Jersey out of state would be good.
#RepJerseyAtRU
#WalkThatTalk (Anthony Davis used this in a tweet).
