How many more years does Pike get a pass with no tournament?

I pray that if we miss it again next season then that would be the last straw, but who knows because some people on this board still think he’s earned a statue in front of the RAC
Maybe we'll have an AD by that point. Or at least a president!

2 more years, then 27-28 season he’d knowingly be on the hot seat. That’d be Somerville Grant and Dortch senior year. Ha, crazy to think all 3 would be at RU still, but if they were, that’d be a great senior front court.

I think if nothing next season he would need to go but at Rutgers we will celebrate the most mediocre things as grand accomplishments. (Like being in the Dayton play in game or winning the Pinstripe Bowl).

He’s on the hot seat 26-27 if he doesn’t make the tourney next year.
Although this is rutgers
Just wondering, if he does make a tourney in the next 2 years, does that buy him enough until the end of his contract?? Thinking with it being Rutgers and all that they could sign him to another contract, anything is possible.

2. Let him recruit like he used to and build a complete team again. He has earned the right to figure it out
Recruit like he used to what, 5-6 years ago. The last few classes have been awful until this year when, thanks to NIL, we don’t know if any of the frosh will be here next year. His recruiting from what 2021 on was dreadful. He’s had years to figure it out and has gotten worse. Sprinkle in NIL and the portal and he’s lost.

In my mind Rutgers has never made the NCAA real experience. Playing in front of 1000 fans wearing masks and playing in a play in game really have never experience the real NCAA tournament atmosphere. That is all.

Nothing wrong in celebrating those two things IF we enjoy them while building for a future. Right now I see that a as a chance for football ( very good recruiting classes and portal pickups). Basketball………..

Clock starts when new AD is hired. New AD will want to give one full season then make his or her move, if situation calls for it after that season.

Biggest questions are probably what is the temperament of basketball boosters, and based on financials will the new AD find he needs them or can he do it without needing much money from them.

We have basketball boosters? If so why couldn't they be recruited to go all-in this year to fill out the roster last summer for our one chance at a truly special season, at a fraction of the cost it will take to can Pike in a year or two.

This is what absolutely kills me about this whole situation.

The contract extension makes it irrelevant.

So let's just hope he figures out NIL and the portal. And maybe shake up the staff.
the buyout makes it relevant
Buyout
  • 2023-24: $15 million
  • 2024-25: $13 million
  • 2025-26: $11 million
  • 2026-27: $9 million
  • 2027-28: $7 million
  • 2028-29: $5 million
  • 2029-30: $3 million
  • 2030-31: $1 million
Rutgers hates buyouts and usually tries to keep the HC until the end of contract unless they can find a so cause
The 2029-30 season is when, in my opinion, RU will be willing to pony up and dump Pike if the MBB program isn't doing too well

If he makes the tourney either this year or next, I will be the most shocked I have ever been in my life and might in fact spontaneously combust. That’s how sure I am that he won’t.

Because we are trying to extract blood from a stone and have done a poor job of expanding our donor base...because most of our fanbase pretends their donation does not matter and just points to rich people to fund everything.

I think you are saying the same thing.
The post you quoted meant "because of his buyout, it makes discussion of firing him irrelevant" - at least that how I read it.

The buyout you are citing comes into play if someone were to come poach Pike. That's what Rutgers would receive.

What matters is the damn contract extension Hobbs gave him through 2031. It's what, about $4M per year? If we were to fire him, we'd still have to pay every cent he's owed through 2031.

Currently it's about $24M. And comes down the $4M per year.

So when I say the contract extension makes this conversation irrelevant, that's what I mean. It's irrelevant because we can't afford to fire him.

And if we CAN afford to fire him, why wasn't a fraction of that money used to keep Cliff here. Or get competent portal pieces?

I was there in Providence in 1976 and I can confidently say you are wrong.

We haven't expanded our donor base since the 1970s.

You will say this from an actual position of knowledge and real experience and the trex arm whiners will keep not believing it…

From a pure basketball perspective (i.e. ignoring realities of new ADs, current contract, etc.) I would have to imagine his seat would be pretty hot next year if we aren't making the tournament. It's possible his contract makes that impossible though.

Any chance Pike pulls a Coach K or Jay Wright and just walks away or do we think he goes full C-Viv and tries to extort the university for the full contract amount?

My man.

TAKING THE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS YOU ARE CONTRACTUALLY OBLIGATED TO IS NOT EXTORTING SOMEONE

This is quite possibly the dumbest ****ing opinion on this website, a website that contains @RUSCFORMERLYRULOU as a regular poster mind you, and you've posted it like 10 times.
