I attended the Coaches meeting tonight

I like everything that I hear about Coach Ash.

I do have one question for the OP. What baggage does Schiano have?? There is no scandal in his past or present.

I think some in the fan base have issues with HOW he left. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't happy with the timing of his exit because it left us with little time to find a coach. BUT, I also thought it was the most fair thing to the kids he had recruited. Had he waited until after signing day, those kids would be locked in, and feeling a bit duped.

I don't disagree that a new start was needed but saying Schiano has baggage is way off the mark and kind of a cheap shot.

Several NJ HS coaches did not like him on a personal level. Call it baggage call it whatever you want but I think that is what the OP was eluding too. Reason I know because I know several North NJ coaches who felt this way and were not afraid to express it.

I'm not sure that's what he is referring to. He throws Golden into the same boat and was well received.

Some of those North NJ coaches will still send their 4* defensive guys to play for Greg at tOSU.

I think the idea of Schiano having baggage is more in relation to the fact that people already have an opinion of him...some good, some bad, but he isn't coming in with a total clean slate like Ash is. I don't think the OP is implying that he has skeletons in the closet...just that for some people, they would prefer he not come back.

The 35k was tickets distributed, not actual butts in seats last night. I heard the chicken fingers were cold and there were not enough hot dog buns.

Thanks to the OP and others who contributed with real information (unlike me)!

Of course Schiano has baggage.

Personally, I believe he would have been fine at Tampa and got a shitty deal being run out of town the way he was. But that said, the general story on Schiano is that he is a stubborn control freak who had moderate success at Rutgers and went on to be an unmitigated disaster at Tampa Bay. Whether its fair or not, a lot of NFLers will never forgive him for trying to turn the kneel down over against the Giants. He has a MAJOR image issue form that and the things players said about him. This is why he did not get another head coach offer in the NFL, and did not get a head coaching offer from any Power 5 program this year, despite the fact everyone knew he was looking to get back into the coaching game. Its the reason his agent got SI do a huge puff piece on him showing how soft he was and how much he was trying to learn from his mistakes.

The proof is in the pudding. Schiano is working as an assistant to his friend, the best coach in college, for one reason ony - career rehabilitation.

That's not "baggage". There is no NCAA issues, no past problems like Tressel and Flood. There is no dark cloud hovering over him or Golden

Nice hijack from the cult of Schiano.

Please keep your religious services on the Ohio State board. It's Ash's team now.

Any mentions of trying to create more of a presence with South Jersey coaches and players ? Any specific ideas to "raise them up Rutgers" with youth and high school players, parents, and coaches ?

So there were OVER 100 coaches there but the OP reported 30-40? Interesting.

How was the EDM mix both before the meeting and in between speakers? Was it as dopey fresh as we are accustomed to? If they mixed in too much rock that only 80% of the room could appreciate I could understand why attendance was low.
