All this week, I wasn't so sure, but today, I found religion.
- Iowas is a good solid program HOWEVER:
-They're Not Ohio State
- They're Not Michigan
- They're Not Wisconsin
- They're Not Nebraska
They are a good, solid Big 10 program that we are capable of BEATING. Just two years ago, Maryland beat them. North Dakota State beat them last week. So that the notion that Rutgers is going to be blown away by Iowa is sheer NONSENSE. Now we are capable of losing to a good program like Iowa, but if we play our best game, it won't MATTER what Iowa does.
The Offensive Line is key to this game:
The rest of the guys have been solid, and I thought they played particularly well against New Mexico, and gave Laviano time to make plays, especially the 75 yard strike to Juwuan Harris.
Now Robert Martin is the type of workhorse, All American potential back that can carry us to victory. His resume includes
Laviano's status as starting qb is the 800 lb gorilla in the room for most fans. He has had his moments, such as the 75 yard strike to Juwuan Harris against new Mexico. But for whatever reason, he is unable to maintain consistency.
Now coming into this season, many said our WR's weren't any good. They were too slow, couldn't get separation, and couldn't get open. Well, against New Mexico, our WRs showed that that notion was worth a tractor trailer load of BS. Grant and Harris are incredibly fast, and difficult to cover. Add 6'3" Andre Patton to the mix (1 TD vs New Mexico), and you've gotta WR corp capable of big things.
After getting beaten up vs Washington, the Defense has stepped up the past two weeks. Julian Pinnix-Odrick was tremendously productive with 12 tackles and 2 sacks against New Mexico. Darius Hamilton chipped in with 10 tackles. I thought Sebastian Joseph had a particularly good game. The linebackers and secondary are a work in progress, but I'm heartened that they seem to be getting better each game.
This particular matchup is going to come down to execution, unlike the next two, where we're very likely outclassed. If everyone executes, we win, period. For this game, I think everything comes together. So I'll say:
Rutgers 27
Iowa 24
