But watching the replay he was kidding Harper about not having much of a vertical jump...I’ve never heard that criticism of him?
Anyone else hear that?

I love Wenzel as a commentator - got to say hi and tell him that after the game and he seemed genuinely appreciative and you could tell he was happy for RU. And yes, he made that comment about Harper, which surprised me a little.

I must not have been paying attention... could have sworn Wnzel said , " I didn't think Harper could get up like that?"... or some facsimile of that quote.

He's done more RU games in recent years and I think he has struggled with those games, probably in trying to figure out how to use the extra knowledge and enthusiasm he has about RU without sounding like a homer. I did not appreciate his attempt to eviscerate Mathis last year for responding to a punk move by that kid on Minnesota. Thought he was pretty good as an early round NCAA commentator before that, not the smoothest but a lot of guys have quirky deliveries like that.

Made a comment something to the effect that the crowd noise brought back some good memories - assume he was referring to his coaching days

Wenz was my USY/temple league coach in Highland Park while he was playing. We went to the state championship game a few years in a row. You can laugh but there were some very talented teams back then. He was intense and smart and fun.

At RU coach W took us to 2 NCAA's and 2 NIT's in his 8 years at RU. He revived the program that Littlepaige took to its lowest lows. But he was clearly burnt out at the end and I supported the move to Bannon.
In 1985 Wenzel suffered a cerebral aneurysm. He comes across as an everyday above ground is a good day kind of guy. Everybody who knows him likes him.
