I would like to see Syracuse and UConn in the Big Ten

While not the big house, the horseshoe, or happy valley, The Rent and the Dome are actually great places to watch football games, and certainly easier to travel to.
I actually think both places suck. Not as much as their fans do though.
And most of my relatives in Connecticut are thinking that UConn is gonna stop with the whole football thing.

Al, every now and then I agree with your takes but not this time. The only reason you posted this is to get a rise out of the board. And the only reason you posted it on the free board is so Sorrycuse and Connie fans could see it in the hope of dragging a few of them over here to defend themselves. If we never play the convicts again it'll be too soon and Sadexcuse can pound nails till their chicken$hit AD returns a home game they owe us.

again…we have no rivals. Play whomever is on the schedule and enjoy that. Rivalries CANNOT be forced. They happen over many decades…the closest thing we have to a rivalry is SHU in MBB…

Al just misses those fans because they invited him to their tailgates. Guess that's not happening now & he misses them. 🤣

This is actually not true. Syracuse Rutgers is a rivalry that neither fan base wants to admit to. They despise us and vice versa. I would welcome playing them every year but they can stay in whatever is left of the ACC.

Exactly. They can be the Georgia Tech to our UGA. I have no issues playing them. I do have issues with them in the B1G.

Not even remotely close to a rivalry…it sucks for most NE football fans outside state penn or Army Navy (THE rivalry that tops them all) there isn’t anything close to that in your area. Harvard Yale I suppose fits. You can say RU SYR is one if it makes you feel better, but it isn’t and it never will be. Our one true chance should be Maryland…a peer school…entered b1g with us and just as red-headed as we are.

Harvard Yale? Yeah I get all moist just thinking about that one. I might head out to Vegas to take that game in next year assuming I can get in a sports book.

B1G schools would vote it down anyway. Only a handful of schools would be allowed in the B1G at this point (UNC, FSU, ND, maybe UVA). Connie and Cuse ain't on the list.
This is correct. Even if we proposed it, which I think would be DUMB anyway as stated above, there's no reason for the rest of the league to approve it.

UConn and Syracuse would NEVER generate as much additional average $$ for the conference as the rest of the league does. Even if you bring them in at a reduced share, there is NEVER a point where they would merit a full share without reducing the average payout everyone else would get without them.

Don't care for FSU in the BigTen. Would rather have UNC and UVA. I'd even look at GT and if we need FL, Miami. Just never likes FSU since the Bowden days.

Get FSU and ND and you drop the mic and close the doors behind you.

I agree with you in football but I would argue they are developing, if not already there, in basketball. Mainly because we have been more competitive in basketball.

You’re right. Easy roadtrips and strong rivalries built over time have nothing to do with it. Much better to visit Oregon, Purdue and Nebraska, after expensive plane rides, in the middle of nowhere, than UConn and Syracuse, which are easy car rides away. Spoken like a fan who travels to away games.

Any contrived Big Ten rivalry, will NEVER be on the level with UConn and Syracuse.

The Rent has seatbacks, something Rutgers Stadium should have in premium sections, but doesn’t.

Interesting thread.

Your comments about stadiums and travel destinations is something I always looked at when deciding to go to away football games. If the destination is close I would drive such as to WVU or Penn State (Beaver Stadium did not like the cramped seating, limited bathroom facilities and total lack of other entertainment venues in the area). Go to the game and drive home that day. Penn State is planning a $700 million upgrade to Beaver Stadium.
Still destination will be in the middle of corn fields and farms (short drive from Pittsburgh).

Many posters often criticize college teams playing in NFL stadiums. However, one of the away games I used to enjoy going to is when Pitt played USF at NFL Raymond James Stadium (Tampa Bay Bucs). Nice stadium with all the amenities an NFL venue can offer. Easy plane ride with many 4-Star Hotels, Bars and Restaurants with outdoor seating on the Waterfront. Really an enjoyable experience.

Also, I don't mind the fact that Pitt plays at NFL Acrisure Stadium vs Old Pitt Stadium in Oakland. Actually old Pitt Stadium reminds me of Notre Dame Stadium only a smaller version (55,000 capacity). Acrisure stadium is 3.5 miles from campus. About the same distance from the farthest Rutgers Campus to Shi Stadium I would guess.

Club Seats at Acrisure are fantastic and Inside Club Area (heating/air conditioning, leather chairs, Pool Table Multiple Bars (even a Bloody Mary Bar), with ample bathroom facilities and closed circuit TV inside etc.

The area surounding Acrisure Stadium and PNC Park has been totally revamped with New Hotels, Bars, Restaurants and things to enjoy within walking distance of the Stadium such as the Andy Warhol Museum, Three Rivers Casino with Landings Hotel, Carnegie Science Center, Buhl Planetarium and Observatory etc. In fact, today an annoucement was made that another $600 million will be invested around Acrisure Stadium (Esplenade Project to begin this fall) to include Marina, ampitheater, Ferris Wheel (aka Paris, London etc) which will have a great view of the Pittsburgh Skyline.

I know you have visted Pittsburgh in the past for a Rutgers Game. If Pitt would ever play Rutgers again at Acrisure Stadium and you were able to attend I think you would be pleasently surprised at how Pittsburgh can be a great destination experience for a college football game.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Pitt was a great round trip I enjoyed very much as well. Stayed at the Pitt Hilton and walked across the bridge for the game. Was so convenient. I also enjoy watching games at NFL stadiums, which have more amenities than college football stadiums. Lincoln Financial Field, Pitts Stadium, and Miami’s Stadium are all excellent. Definitely an upscale experience, compared to what you see in college.

Was at the Pitt - Rutgers game in 2006, where Darrelle Revis tracked down Ray Rice after a long run. Who knew that those two would go on to be NFL Superstars. Ray Rices career unfortunately prematurely ending due to his own failings. But no one can take away his Super Bowl ring.

Always enjoyed the Pitt/Rutgers games. Hopefully sometime in the future a home and home can be scheduled since Rutgers has played BC and Syracuse so far. This year Revis being inducted into the NFL Pro Football Hall Of Fame is a great honor. His induction now gives Pitt 10 players in the NFL HOF.

Enjoy reading this thread and your defense of Syracuse and UConn to the B1G.

Perhaps…but I think people overlook what a real college rivalry is all about. We were a part of THE original rivalry…RU-Princeton…it was pretty cool…until it wasn’t and died long ago. Rivalries mean you hyper focus on another program…Bama-auburn…osu-mich…A&M-Texas…Cal-Stanford…Army-Navy. They either have historical meaning nationally, or divide states. Heck, A&M and Texas mention each other in each others fight songs (even when not playing each other). Other than some dudes on message boards “hating” each other, I guarantee you no one in central NY cares or spends any time thinking about Rutgers.

Out one chance…the terrapins!

Actually, now that the Pitt guy has chimed in, if we’re talking about old Big East foes joining the B1G (never gonna happen, btw), give me Pitt over Cuse or UConn any day of the week.
Pitt is the one old BE foe I would be cool with being in the B1G. They have the academic reputation unlike Connie and Sarah, they actually care about football unlike Connie, and they give PSU a natural rival.

These schools are our real rivals. No one else comes close.
  • PSU, OSU, and UM don’t take us seriously for good reason. We show up, and they beat our @ss.
  • We beat Indiana’s @ss, so we can’t take them seriously
  • Maryland only cares about when basketball season starts
  • MSU and other Big Ten schools are too far away to be rivals with
No other schools create as much haterade as Syracuse and UConn. Both deserve to be with us in the Big Ten and location is the only reason why they are not. No other schools stir up the venom like these two schools, which generate more hate than any others. I enjoyed being taunted by UConn fans, as I walked down the runway. Our wins over them in 2006 and 2009 were amazing. For the 2009 game, an ESPN guy gave me front row seats. I was the only one in red, in a sea of blue. So I heard it ALL GAME. I enjoyed taunting them after the game.

No other schools have that much “love” for us. Big Ten Fans are so polite to us. It’s boring.

I would like to see Syracuse and UConn as part of the next Big Ten Class of entrants.

I was planning on attending Tennessee @ Oklahoma in September but I just remembered they don’t have seatbacks so likely heading to Louisville vs Austin Peay
Austin Peay doesn’t have seatbacks either, so your out of luck. Stay home

Cool. Your partner is very proud.
At least he has someone.

Come on, al. This was just a really dumb thought.

You want a OOC regular game against some of these guys, fine. Even a rotation wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world either. But a bought game only.

Conference members? Stupid. You’re better than this.

A thousand page thread says otherwise.

But I do agree that the sara thing has been over and done for a while now.

madman.gif here when it comes to them.

Do like the idea of the Maryland game being the last one of the season every year. It makes sense on many levels.
