I'll say it first......do Ash and Mehringer make a run at JG ??

Disagree with the poster above. jG is way more talented. I question his head. JG is suited perfectly for this offense. Ash started following him on Twitter.
Based on what? How little time JG has spent on the field the last 2 seasons. I thought Russo was solid based off his junior year, but what he did this past season is off the charts. Still it's hard to say one QB is better than the other. JG is more athletic, but always hurt. Russo growth as a QB is greater than anything JG has shown over the last 2 years. I have to believe Ash is willing to shape the offense around Russo since his is committed to play for Rutgers. Right now JG is only a wish by fans until proven otherwise.

I'm not sure anyone has a wish list....this is about the best QB fit for the new offense. We have a roster of Pro Style QB's....does anyone know if Houston has a QB that is also run threat or a QB that sits back in the shotgun and slings the ball all over the field ? That's the only issue.

Based on me watching both play. I wasn't all that impressed to be honest with the ball Russo threw at the elite 11 in the 7 on 7 competition. I have watched his highlights and they are good. I have watched JG several times and seen his highlights. His ceiling is way higher. But if he doesn't get his head on straight he could be a bust. I personally would take the chance on him. They are rated properly by rivals. I don't really see much of a difference between Russo and Dare.

Houston's QB ran a lot. 1000+ rushing yards and 19 TDs. Their backup ran too when he played

Based on this board's reaction to JG committing to UTjr, no way he comes here. Based on other things, still a longshot. Didn't his father get a job there?

The backup to Houston QB Ward was a passing QB coming out of HS and was not known to be a running QB, but he ran some when he played

Take each scouting service with a grain of salt. Some of the ranking are driven by demand from subscribers. With that said JG ceiling is higher based mostly on being a much better athlete, but if he can't stay healthy is he worth it? Honestly, I would like to see Rutgers run Baylor's offense.

This obsession with JG is comical. His stats aren't very good and my guess is he is moved to WR or safety by his sophomore year.

Not an obsession. It's about winning and the best QB to run and lead the system. He was good enough for Urban Meyer to go after very hard, but. not for "needmorecowbell". Now, that is what I call comical.

I mentioned this in the other thread. No idea how realistic it may be but with Mehringer being a local Texas recruiter and coach maybe they try for Kyle Allen from A&M or Trevor Knight from OU.

If we're going to have an offense built around a running QB, then our QB recruiting conversations should revolve around the word "and" more than "or". Might as well go for Russo and Guarantano and whoever else. Assuming Russo can run. The point being we need more than one good running QB.

Gurantano wouldn't make it out of pre season practice. The kid is glass.

His family should write a book on how to play the hype game. It's pretty impressive when you consider he hasn't actually produced anything.
history of injury is a major red flag, ash talks loyalty, well that goes to Russo, lets see

Wherever you find Mike Locksley you'll find DH....how about Devon Fuller...

Gio can run! He's our new starting QB. Congrats to young Mr. Rescigno!

We already have a running QB on the team. He was a red shirt last season.

Look we should after whoever gives us the best chance to win.

I'll take Russo over jg. I was on St. Peter's sideline last year vs bc at caven point. They were calling jg rag doll because of how they were throwing him around. Way to fragile for Big

The Ohio State know about JG a long time now. The kid is perfect for Rutgers. Ash needs to bring this kid in.

The Houston QB ran 178 times this year, that's just shy of 15 carries per game.I would expect we find a 5th year Graduate QB who has run the Power Spread Offense.

IMO I hope we retain Russo more so than flip JG. No butt hurt about his commitment previously but I just think Russo is going to have a great college career

Russo >>>>>>>JG and that is based on skill.

I terms of intangibles I don't want JG. I don't know if some of you forget the "shoes", the stringing along and the NY times video.

Don't want the kid anywhere near the program. So f no.

I'd rather have Russo...

Haskins was my #1 but after that I liked Russo over JG...hard for me to think
that a guy who can't stay on field in HS will in the B1G...he's doesn't have the
body type to take the abuse he will

After he can't live on hype anymore, that kids family is going to a nightmare to deal with.

Russo is a QB. Gurantano is Justin Beiber.

Russo is a very good QB and stuck with his commit even in the face of all the controversy , but, when your system has the QB running 100-150 times per year he may not be the right guy. He may not be a good fit. It's about the BEST FIT at QB.

If I were Russo and I did my homework, I would look at what Houston does on Offense and go to the system and school that best fits my skill set. He is tailor made for Pro Style.

If I were Russo, I'd talk w/Mehringer and see what the plan is before I'd do anything. It's not definite that we'll play the same exact O as places Mehringer coached in the past.

When the QB you are advocating for can't finish a high school season without getting hurt, plugging him into a system where he has to take more hits is unsound logic. The fact that he has proven nothing just adds to it.

Russo threw 2x the amount of touchdowns in one season than Beiber has in his entire career. It's all hype.
