Disappointing end to an overachieving season, but not bad, when you consider we were rebuilding.

We beat the #1 team, Purdue in their own house, beat Penn State twice, Maryland once, and had many other solid victories, despite lacking talent and depth, and consistent scoring. That will change with recruiting classes that are getting progressively better. With the RAC and the practice facility, we’ve got a value proposition second to none.

That said, we’ve got room to grow. Have to box out, which is something kennyschiano pointed out on the premium boards and I’ve noticed all season. Have to hit our free throws. Have to do a better job from downtown. That said, I felt fatigue affected our performance, especially towards the end of the season. And the kids emptied their gas tanks, and I feel satisfied. This is why our defense slipped, especially in our last game.

Basketball is the most physically intense sport I’ve ever played. It’s easier for me to run 26 miles, than to have gone through that first basketball practice in high school. Couch potatoes can’t relate.

The kids did their best. That’s the bottomline and all I can ask for. Things are going to get better from here on out with better talent on tap. Our destination: The promised land. With this program, and this coach, and our home environment, we are going to get there. It’s only a matter of time.

There were good points cited in the second paragraph that needs correction by better recruiting and coaching basic fundamentals.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility, though...

What comes first: HC Schiano's CFB national championship or HC Pike's CBB national championship?

Our best chance likely for a while at a final 4 was 2 years ago. Basketball is incredibly hard to win it all, so many bounces can happen to cause you to lose to other good teams. How often are you in a region where every team 1-8 minus the team you played, loses in the first 2 rounds?

FB needs a Phil Knight / T Boone Pickens / Jimmy Rane big time situation

Bball needs a run in the tourney and few guys that can finish

Bball for the win

No.....This team with no Mag injury and one more playable perimeter player who could be trusted on D and give us 15 MPG was a team capable of winning it all.

There is parity and only a 6 game winning streak required.

This thread makes me so glad that I came to this board today.

Al, you are still laughed at to this day on the Maryland boards for your "1. USC 2. Alabama 3. Rutgers" post that made its rounds on so many team boards however many years ago.

Do your fan base a failure and leave basketball alone.

Thanks for all the real answers everyone but I was more asking Al as a joke. Wondering if his belief in HC Schiano trumped how much further ahead HC Pike has the basketball program.

Love you FIG but this team with Mag was a sweet 16 / elite 8 team, at best
We need finishers - bottom line

D is important, but you need to score to win
Mag wasn't giving us 15 ppg/game

Once you are a sweet 16 or an elite 8 team you are 2-3 wins away.

It is about winning 6 straight games. Not about winning 4 7 game series.

Who in the field of 68 is a team 1.5 months ago Rutgers couldn't beat? We beat a 1 seed on the road. Alabama? Arizona? UCLA? Houston?

UNLV with Anthony Augmon and Larry Johnson isn't in this tournament
Kentucky with 10 studs are not playing either

You need firepower in the tourney
It's a 6 game grind
No team is winning the natty on D alone

You need to win 2 games to get to the next weekend
You need to win 2 more games to get to the Final 4
You need to win 2 games to become National Champs

We have seen Loyola and St. Peter's make decent runs. Each team at one point probably had at least a 10% chance of being National Champs.

You don't have to be a great offensive team to be a great offensive team for 1 day.

Getting to the National Championship game involves an incredible amount of luck. There is a reason they play 7 game series in the NBA to determine teams that advance and to compete for the championship. Basketball is not suited for single elimination tournaments. It makes for great TV, but it is not designed to crown the best team.

Throw up a new football facility like a new basketball facility was built, and we will at least be in the game.

Once the RAC renovations are done, it will also improve our chances in basketball. That said, basketball definitely is closer.

OK there King of Message Board Genius.

I've always been pleased that Al's LOOK AT ME posts don't get as much traction on this board as they do on the football board.

We played for the Nat. Championship in 1976. Missed by one game. That’s the closest we’ll ever come again in my ( and maybe your) lifetime. Accept the odds.

It will happen again, you gotta believe!

Helloooo. RutgersAl is right again. We will play for the national championship and we know how to do it the Rutgers way:
Step 1: Invent a sport
Step2: Invite a patsy like Princeton to play on our turf
Bingo bango National Championship.

Wow, that was a pretty great year for Rutgers basketball and football!

NJ is the hotbed for women's high school wrestling. D1 schools are starting to add women's wrestling. If Rutgers got in on the ground floor, we could win National Championships for the foreseeable future. In typical Rutgers fashion, they will wait and be behind the 8 ball for the foreseeable future.

Will this be for the 2023 national championship after your lawsuit is resolved? Or a different year?

Al - genuinely curious. What is your objective in posting something like this?

You’ve certainly got to be aware that these posts annoy many.

I don’t think you can earnestly say that you’re hoping to get other people pumped up, because it certainly appears that you are NOT getting many people pumped up.

If you actually would like to get others pumped up, please revisit your approach.

I think you’re just doing it for the dopamine hits you get when people react.
