The COVID-19 crisis has thrown everything about higher education into question. Our students, many of them first-generation college students, are dealing with the hardships of online learning and loss of employment. Faculty must prepare for courses in an uncertain future. And thousands of university employees face the prospect of layoffs. The people who make the university run don’t know when they will return to campus.

I have no idea what college is going to look like when this is all over. I hope they can save some jobs by going with reduced work weeks and targeted salary reductions.
