Coach Flood had Ray Rice talk to the team about his one, big, career ruining mistake, on April 24th

the Delafield street assault took place...................April 25th
the first "home invasion" took place on.................April 26th
the second............................................................ April 27th
the third..................................................................May 5th

I don't think we could have scheduled that meeting any better....

That's the thing with society, everyone is looking to someone else to solve their problems. I think it's great that Flood asked him to share his story and if it effected even one kid that's a game changer. Sadly, the reality is a kid like Boggs probably didn't hear one word. Either by choice or because he was wearing his BEATS he wasn't having it. Some kids don't want to be saved because they are so deep they don't see the problem.

you are correct, I just did not realize how close "the talk" was to the events....I wanted those who thought Flood was not even thinking about
controlling the team to see the timeline....it is not like the players should have forgotten what was said

Being totally honest, I was the recipient of very useful strong messages by great speakers when I was 21 years old
In one ear out the other!
Only in retrospect do I realize how dumb I was.

First home invasion was December 14th.
------------

could be, the articles I recently found only have the dates I listed....still, if the message would have registered with these guys, four
incidents might not have happened....but, as we can see, they went ahead after Rays attempt to help....we would have been way better
off if Rays talk was a turning point to the good.

Invaders gonna invade. In reality, it was a great business model. Only in NJ would "drug dealers" call the cops after have their stash stolen.
911..what's your emergency?
Caller.... I used my dad's Black card to buy 4 ounces of pot from my sisters dealer that delivers in NYC.
911..did he not deliver it?
Victim...no he did. I even tipped him but the enormous kid I sold pot to last week with the very specific tattoo kicked my door in an took it all and my money and drugs.
911..ok
Victim ...BTW my dad and mom are lawyers and if my name gets leaked I'll lie and say it's not true and then I'll shove a brick up duggan's ass

PISCATAWAY A Rutgers University football player, already charged in a home invasion, and a former Rutgers football player have been charged in another dorm room robbery on the Busch Campus in December.

The investigation determined that the two defendants entered a Davidson Hall dorm room on the Busch Campus last Dec. 14 and took cash and marijuana from the victim, according to the prosecutor's office. No one was injured.

I appreciate your links for the December events, but the point I was making is that four events happened immediately after a warning, which boggles my mind....I mean immediately

You can't simply have someone parachute in, give a talk and change a culture. One of the things that Coach's supporters have mentioned is how he is not a micromanager. The other way to read this is that he doesn't hold his guys accountable enough on a day to day basis. These guys don't need a motivational speaker. They need someone to take control.

You can't say it didn't have an impact. Maybe there was one or 2 more players that chose not to hang out those nights because of the message. Did it reach everyone? Sadly no. Hopefully it did reach someone.

That is not fair to the coach...... You automatically assume that this talk was the only thing Flood did to try to keep players from getting into trouble

I think it proves he was always concerned about it, took advantage of the fact that Ray was going to be there, asked him to do this

And change what culture?..... The one where we had one of the lowest number of incidents over the past five years, before this?... Have you seen the five year chart?....our school is not even on the list, our incidents were so low.

flood did this Probably Without any indication that players were on the verge of going bad...... He did it as another approach, another tactic, to a problem almost everycollege has.to some degree

Parachute in?.... Not fair..... You assume this is the only thing Flood did.

This piece of the puzzle is really really odd - on the surface, it seems to be connected - but in a rather thin and strange way - and the facts presented have some peculiar qualities -
(1.) it happened 4-5 months before any of the other events ( no idea if there are yet-to-be-revealed incidents in between)
(2.) this was Pollard & Terry .... connection to other events seems to just be via Terry & that the previously unidentified Terry - was recently revealed to be the unrecognizable guy in a mask (who 'un-masked' him?) Pollard left team - and subsequently left the NB campus for Camden campus
(3.) this happened on Sunday, December 14, 2014 ... so, on a near empty campus - when the semester is essentially over except for exams - is there no campus security at this point in the year?
(4.) ... in a Davidson Hall dorm room on the Busch Campus ... and this is a "home invasion"? technically it does fit into the definition - but popping the lock on a dorm room - or barging into a dorm room seems to be a far cry from the scenario that one would imagine when thinking of "home invasion" - - just a hunch - but looks like a tough /severe charge that could be used to negotiate a lower charge if the defendant cooperates.
(5.) took cash and marijuana from the victim ... huh? "they took my marijuana" seems unlikely to have been the victim's complaint - who would do that?

just another hunch - but looks like leaning on the various charged participants has produced a treasure trove of admissions & disclosures - Cops ask "who else"... "when else" ... "where else" ... "what was taken" .... "remember that we have you on enough to lock you up for a very very long time ... and if you hold anything back - all deals are off - we will go for the max"

That's only the first home invasion reported. As I said in an earlier post. People don't enter the crime game robbing drug dealers. Also drug dealers don't usually report a break in. They seek street justice.

Only in retrospect do I realize how dumb I was.

Most of us were dumb at 21 and most of us did some really stupid things and / or had friends who did really stupid things. We got away with a lot more than they do today too. Everything was word of mouth with no internet or DNA. But some of these guys make me shake my head. I'm not talking heat of the moment mistakes where guys need to turn the other cheek.

I agree with the OP that Flood is trying to do the right thing with these kids. That is pretty clear to me.

It's too bad that there are shooting wars going on at this time. Otherwise I would be a huge advocate of 2 yrs of compulsory military training for every male and female at age 18.Among the rewards for serving would be a goodly amount for college tuition. The other benefits are incalculable. The time spent would make MEN and WOMEN out of young boys and girls.Very little or none of the crap that has happened at RU would have happened .Self discipline and good decision making would be a given.

Everyone wants a Quick Fix in life. But how often does a quick fix work ?

Some guys buy new golf clubs every year. Does that make them better golfers when the new clubs arrive ?

Some kids just don't think they will get caught when they are in their teens and early twentys. People ripping people off for weed and money (and I hate to say this) is common a college campus. Happened all the time in the dorm when I was in school in the late 70's early 80s. All the students know who is selling weed, they just watch them get their schedule down and go in their room when they are in class. I am not saying it right but this is what happens trust me I know. It when u get a little older you realize it was a "bonehead" move

as I pointed out above, this opinion assumes that this was the one and only thing Flood did during his head coaching, to
address this type of stuff

why do you assume it was the only thing?

Not a micromanager = not doing his job
Micromanager = dictator who no one wants to work for.

You are reading a quality into a negative. Not being a micromanager is not a negative quality, it merely implies that he is inclined to delegate some functions to staff. The bottom line, for me at least, is that unless Flood told these kids it would be cool to go rob someone -- they were all adults and bear responsibility for breaking the law.
