How many fans will be in the seats in the 2nd quarter of Iowa at Rutgers?

Many Rutgers fans and NJ residents have never heard of Iowa and don't realize it is a state or a large public university. Rutgers fans will attend games when they have heard of the other team.
Wait....what? That is a ridiculous statement. Even my non-Rutgers co-workers were asking about the game all week.

I predicted 44K announced. That was the exact number. Then I provided a reporter's account of the game, which said nowhere near 44K were there. A bunch of pissed RU fans posting "you're wrong" on a message board isn't more compelling than the evidence I've provided. Sorry. Post away!

Iowa fans were seated in sections like 104 normally occupied by Rutgers season ticket holders.I expect more of the same for Michigan and Penn State.

Iowa had 4-5k there. Probably about 2k in upper deck and 2-3k scattered around lower bowl. Quiet fans.

I believe it was way less. I actually estimated their attendance section by section during the game, and between the west (Iowa side of the field) stands and end zone the had no more than 1,500. I would put the total less than 2,000.

I don't think there was more than 40K in attendance I would put the Iowa contingent in the 4-5K range. There are alot of empty seats and our offense lulled the crowd to sleep for most of the game.

I actually thought that the crowd was surprisingly loud and fairly involved, especially for a noon game, HOWEVER...the sun came out before halftime, then the 3rd quarter had a lot of stops in action (think Iowa called a TO on O before the play following the Lambert injury play and there was zero game action for about 10-minutes), and it was definitely weaker before coming on again in the 4th.

Why engage this troll. Crowd was fine...late arriving? Yes. Welcome to NJ. The Giants are NFL royalty but when they lose 9 games nobody goes. This ain't the Midwest.

I was going to start a new thread but I decided it might come across the wrong way.

I'm not gonna say "good game" bc I know that can come across as insincere. I do want to say thank you to you guys. You were honestly the most welcoming fan base I've ever encountered.

The only "bad" incident happened at the end of the game when a bro in jorts came over and talked shit. Even then, Hobbs came over to us and said "he doesn't represent us..."

Even though it's late, welcome to the Big Ten. Glad you guys are here. Hope you all make a trip to Iowa City and that our fans treat you with same hospitality.

Finally, someone takes off the scarlet-colored glasses and tells it like it is.

Not sure if you care about my opinion but I'd guess 6k Iowa fans. The official Iowa tailgate had 4K. There were at least 2k more of us that didn't go.

No matter what phony number RU releases, "under" is officially the correct answer. I don't know if a Big Ten stadium has ever been so empty at kickoff. This is an embarrassment to the university and the worst part is that this game is nationally televised on ESPN2.
We were there close to kick off and it was pretty empty but the there was a pretty substantial crowd that came in during the first quarter.

Late arriving crowd exacerbated by the new surprise "TSA Inspired" security rules. No wanding, but every jacket & stadium blanket unrolled, glasses cases opened, wallets opened, anything resembling a bottle such as sunscreen getting confiscated, etc.

Attendance of 44,061 seems very close to accurate, but it's also very embarrassing to have 8,000-10,000 empties for an upper tier B1G team that went 12-0 last year & we were 2-1 with perfect weather. Embarrassing.

BTW - nearly as man Iowa fans at HPSS as their are Temple fans at The Linc today. Gotta laugh at the thoughts of them EVER being remotely considered for a P5 slot. I mean they had a HUGE season in 2015 - granted not as good as some here and their fans want to think - and still can't draw for shit.
27,786 ... not a bad crowd for a team with a 1-2 record:

We r not great this year and it was a noon game. The attendance was not bad. Had we won this game, we'd build momentum for even more fans showing up next time.

Dude u are wrong. We're u at the game? If some reporter posted at kickoff, that's not the accurate attendance.
He didn't post at kickoff. He tweeted during the 4TH QUARTER when RU announced its attendance figure and said there wasn't 44K in the stadium. Those are the facts, even if you don't like them.

How about someone take some panoramic pictures of the stadium before each quarter and post them here next time?

I think you need to learn the difference between one man's estimate and fact.

Total bullshit. Maybe 1,000 Iowa fans in the upper deck visiting side at most.

I sit in 121 with a clear view of the entire West Upper Tier. No question there were more Iowa fans than RU fans up there. That's where the majority of their allotment goes. No big deal.

I sit in 225 straight across form the west tier at about the 35 yard line. I don't know how you come up with more than half. Again in the whole upper tier there might have been 800 Iowa fans. It's no big thing. I'm just worried about your eyesight LOL.

I have 20-20 vision. Thanks. [thumb2]

The actual Tweet from the reporter you quoted, Mike Hlas (bolded for emphasis): "Today's attendance at Iowa-Rutgers: 44,061. Actual number of fans here: Less than 44,061." Notice he did not say "nowhere near 44K were there" as you suggest. Now, his Tweet may have been full of snark; in reading his Tweets and blog posts he seems like quite the sarcastic douche. In other words, he would fit right in at the Star Ledger. So would you for that matter as you can't get your facts straight or distinguish fact from opinion.

I honestly don't care how many people were in the stadium but since it is the topic at hand your estimate of 34k is way too low. I agree with others that around 42k were actually in the building at peak. I would estimate 10-15% were Iowa fans so figure 5-6k of them.

Lastly, we all know RU announces tickets and not fannies so 44k is the upper limit. Why this bothers you so much, I'll never understand.

People need to realize we are not a great team and this is a noon game. Stop kidding yourselves. If we are 5-0 and it's a 3:30 against a B1G team, the seats will be full. Just be real, it'll save u a ton of anguish.

A part of me wants to believe that statement, but I just saw the #8 team in nation play the #11 team at noon.

Agree; I estimated row by row, section by section in the West upper deck during the game, as noted in my earlier post. Your 800 is not far off from my count for the upper deck. I also estimated in the lower bowl west side and end zone. 20 to 50 in each section from 101 to 117. Maybe another 400 to 600. Add the east side where there were a few here and there and it totals around 2,000. That it. It was not a good showing for Iowa. We had way way more at Penn State in 2015 and OSU in 2014. We had much bigger sections and the rows were packed. However, this year our attendance at OSU will be much less as I am guessing it was a one time visit for many of us in 2014.

I'm not saying being 5-0 will put us at 3:30. Just saying IF such a game was at 3:30 for us, Wed fill the stadium up better. Fwiw I hope Wed be at 330 in that situation. I can only take so many noon games lol.

Well somebody else had to be wrong (and OF COURSE we had "way more" for PSU and OSU...Nebraska as well...). Lots of Iowa fans in black on Saturday, not just gold, so I'm just going to assume you didn't count those. I too am always on top of these things - for some stupid reason lol - and they had way over 4,000 fans at the game. One Iowa fan said they had 4K show up to their pre-game tailgate alone (see below).

Wait a second, AreYouNUTS. You repeatedly admonished me for quoting a longtime Iowa newspaper reporter's tweet about attendance being far lower than the number RU announced. Yet in the post above, you quoted an anonymous Iowa message board poster's opinion about attendance to strengthen your case? You're having a hard time in this thread.
